An Odd Little Family

Summary:

After Grimmel's defeat, the Light Fury decides to stay with Hiccup, Astrid, and Toothless.

Notes:

Prompt: The Hidden World

Work Text:

Hiccup was happy. He hadn't had to say goodbye to Toothless. The Light Fury had slowly warmed up to him. She was still rather wild, impossible to tame, but she hung around when she wasn't pulling Toothless into the forests of New Berk for a tryst in the woods or a private flight.

The Light Fury had no qualms with him riding Toothless. She'd even come along sometimes when he took him out for flights.

And, after the destruction of Grimmel and his Death Grippers, these flights were peaceful. It was the most peace Hiccup had felt in years.

"You know," Hiccup began as he, Toothless, and the Light Fury flew above the clouds- "Have you guys thought about having kids?"

Toothless lifted an ear in alarm, then looked at the Light Fury. He translated what Hiccup had said to her in a series of warbles, and she squinted happily at Toothless, cooing. So the Light Fury had thought of it, but what about Toothless?

"I mean, you're 22," Hiccup said to Toothless. He wanted to warm his dragon up to the idea. He was the last Night Fury, and it would be good for him to carry on his line. "You've been with the Light Fury for a while. Why not?"

Toothless grumbled, but it was more of a positive sound than a negative one. It was: "I'll think about it."

Hiccup patted him on the side of his neck. "Good."

Toothless was happy. He'd taken Hiccup's idea. He'd coupled with the Light Fury plenty of times before, but never with the intent to reproduce. Now, however, it had happened. She'd laid her eggs outside Hiccup's house, and was okay with him taking them in to keep them warm and safe. She had hardly left the house until the babies had hatched.

They were beautiful little dragons, all a mixture of white and black. Hiccup had helped Toothless name them: Dart, Pouncer, and Ruffrunner. And he was involved in raising them as well. When Toothless became a father, so did Hiccup. These were Hiccup's children just as much as they were his and the Light Fury's. Hiccup was his soulmate, just as the Light Fury was.

And then when Astrid had her hatchlings, (even though humans didn't lay eggs [odd]), Toothless was father to them as well.

They were an odd family together, but it made Toothless happy, and it clearly made Hiccup happy as well.

He was glad as long as Hiccup was happy.
