Work Text:
Hiccup had dreamed of flying of course. All humans had flying dreams sometimes, didn't they? He'd never expected his dream to come true though.
Now, he was laid out flat on Toothless' back, diving down, down, down. Toothless let out a happy roar as they descended, wind whipping at the both of them.
A hundred feet or so above the ocean, Hiccup gave a tug on the handholds of the saddle, and Toothless felt it, spread his wings out to pull up and level himself out. Hiccup slid back into the saddle as they leveled, careening over water, sending waves out in either direction.
"Woohoo!" Hiccup shouted as they slowed, pumping one fist in the air. He rubbed Toothless on his neck, and Toothless cooed at him.
Yes, Hiccup had dreamed of flying, but it had never made sense to him, not until he'd met Toothless. Now, flying made the most sense in the world.
He'd never fly without Toothless, and Toothless would never fly without him. They were together for life: partners, soulmates.
Yes, Hiccup had his human soulmates in Astrid and his friends, but he had his dragon soulmate as well. He loved Toothless more than anything, more than life itself, and had proven that multiple times.
Toothless had proven the same.
And so they ascended once again, Hiccup clinging to Toothless as smoothly as a second skin. And that night, when he dreamed of flying, it was with Toothless.
