Work Text:
Basil looks out the window, gazing into the night sky. His grandmother was gone, and despite Polly being there for him, it changed nothing. Of course, there was Kel and Hero, but it didn’t help either. Talking to Aubrey was useless since she and her friends were more interested in beating him and throwing insults.
“Creep!”
It hurt. It really hurt.
And Sunny? He was nowhere to be seen. This has been the case for the past 4 years with countless times knocking on his door, only to receive no response.
Basil lets out a sigh of resignation and looks down at his hand, which had a pair of garden shears.
“I’m sorry, everyone.” He said to himself.
At least he’ll see Mari and his grandmother again.
Basil takes both hands, and raises the garden shears towards himself, pointing at his stomach. He grips it tightly, shaking and breathing heavily.
He was going to do it. He was going to leave everyone behind.
By now… he would’ve been nothing more than a corpse on the ground, a horrid sight for all to see.
Had it not been for the sound of his bedroom door opening that stopped him. Basil froze, realizing that he had forgotten to lock the door.
“P-Polly?” Basil said, turning around, expecting it to be his caretaker who entered his room.
He could not help but look on in pure shock, as a young man stood before in his room. It wasn’t the fact that a complete stranger was here with him that shocked Basil, but his appearance.
He was about six feet tall, or maybe even taller than that.
But the most noticeable part? The moonlight illuminated the room just enough for Basil to see.
The young man looked exactly like Sunny. The hair, the face, the eyes, the stoic expression… He was completely identical to his best friend!
Basil couldn’t help but tremble in fear. Who was he? Why is he here? Why does he look like Sunny!? This had to be SOMETHING’s work. That had to be it!
He had enough of this… He had to get rid of SOMETHING! This pain has gone on long enough!
But how? That man was tall, someone of Basil’s size that he wouldn’t be able to fight off. He could wait and see if he starts coming closer.
However… Basil noticed that the man’s eyes were looking down at the garden shears that were behind his back. His facial expression didn’t change, but his eyes seemed to narrow in suspicion as he shifted his attention back towards him.
“HE KNOWS…” A voice echoed inside Basil’s mind.
Screw it… Discretion was out the window. Basil whips out the garden shears from behind, making the man widen his eye slightly in surprise for a brief moment, before frowning.
The man narrows his eyes, furrowing his brows as Basil charges at him.
Basil attacks!
The attack whiffed!
Basil tried to stab at the man’s leg, to which he sidestepped. The boy panicked but did not falter. He tries to stab the man a second time.
Basil attacks!
The attack whiffed!
The man takes a step back, making Basil miss once again. Then, he moves faster than the boy could react.
The man smacks Basil’s wrist!
Basil takes 80 damage!
Basil lost the garden shears!
“Agh!”
Basil yelps as the man smacks his wrist with the back of his hand, forcing him to let go of the shears.
The shears are knocked away into the darkness…
Basil became AFRAID!
Basil was frozen in fear, no longer having any means to defend himself.
The man grabs Basil by the shoulders!
Basil takes 40 damage!
Basil became STRESSED OUT!
Basil starts screaming in pure terror as the man grabs his shoulders. The man starts shaking him, shouting words he couldn’t understand due to his own fear. Then the man starts clapping his hands in front of his face, making a loud noise.
The noise makes Basil stop, and he starts to understand what the man is saying more clearly.
“Calm down… I’m not gonna hurt you…” The man raises his hands toward Basil in a calming manner.
“Mori! What’s going on!?” Basil hears Polly's voice.
His caretaker appears in his doorway with a worried look on his face.
Slowly, Basil starts to two and two together and starts hyperventilating. This was too much for him to handle.
Polly knew this stranger, he thought.
Basil blacks out…
“Basil!” Polly runs over to him and holds him gently.
“Mori! What happened?” Polly looks at Mori, who was just as shocked as she was.
Mori looks between the blonde boy and the shears. He recalls the look he had in his eyes.
The boy saw something he couldn’t see…
“I think… he tried to commit suicide…” Mori answered, pointing at the shears that were in one corner of the room.
Polly looked over to where her friend was pointing and saw the garden showers.
“No…” She puts a hand to her mouth in horror, tears forming in her eyes. “Why…?”
Mori didn’t have an answer to that. He just looked out the window into the night sky.
Some night this turned out to be. He hoped his little brother wasn’t of the same mind. Mori hasn’t even seen his face yet. He hasn’t once come out of his room no matter how many times he knocked on his bedroom door.
