Work Text:
Mornings with Bradley were the best, in Jake’s humble opinion. They were filled with sleeping in, waking up to slow kisses and making and eating breakfast together. Today however, the two had forgone breakfast to drive 3 hours north to meet Phoenix, Bob, Javy and the rest at some obscure brunch spot Phoenix found. The radio was on softly, playing some love song off a station one of the others had tuned to (note to self, don’t let Payback have authority over the music). He thought about switching to their normal oldies station, when a lyric caught him by surprise.
Put your hand in mine,
You know that I want to be with you all the time,
He grinned around his toothpick and watched as Bradley reached to change the channel. In a moment that would have Jake spewing denial if Phoenix ever found out, Jake reached over and entwined their fingers, pulling Bradleys hand back toward the center console. Bradley looked at him, his head tilted to the side in a way that made him look not dissimilar to his callsign’s namesake: head cocked (no pun intended) to the side in question.
Jake just grinned harder and waggled his eyebrows as the lyrics cycled back and Bradley realized what Jake had done. He chuffed out a laugh before returning his eyes to the road.
The pair sat in silence until the song ended, broken only by Bradley saying softly,
“I love you Jake Seresin”
He was interrupted only a moment by radio jargon before Jake responded, “I love you too, Bradley Bradshaw.”
The next song was, simply put, trash, and had Bradley not taken the hand that wasn’t entangled with Jake’s, off the wheel to change the station, Jake would’ve thanked him. Instead he hissed, clenching his hand tighter around Bradley’s,
“HAND ON THE WHEEL BRADSHAW”,
and Bradley just laughed at him. A beautiful loud laugh that burst from his chest and filled the car with sound. For a second Jake forgot to be scared.
Bradley glanced over at him, eyes nothing but fond.
“You fly F-18s for a living Hangman, and me taking my hands off the wheel for a half a second is what scares you?”
He had a point.
“Jerkass.”
Bradley just laughed again before bringing their tangled hands to his lips and whispering against them,
“Hangman, you big sap.”
Jake looked at him as Bradley pressed a soft kiss to the back of Jake’s hand. A soft smile fell across his face at the sight.
“That’s me honey”
And he returned his gaze to the passing landscape.
Yeah mornings with Bradley Bradshaw were fantastic.
