“I can’t promise I won’t be a stubborn ass along the way,” he says, wanting Jake to know what he’s getting into. “I’ll do my best not to be,” he promises.
Jake laughs that off, a playful grin on his face. “Oh, I’ll be shocked if you’re anything other than a stubborn ass, but that’s one of your best qualities.”
Bradley rolls his eyes, trying and failing to stifle his smile. Jake always seems to know exactly what to say. “Ha-ha,” he deadpans. “But, Jake, I really don’t know how I’ll ever be able to thank you enough.”
The other man shrugs as if that’s the absolute least of his worries. “I’m not doing this to be repaid, I’m doing it because I care about you,” Jake says, his words hanging in the air for a moment. “So what do you say? Sound like a plan?”
“Yeah,” he says, his tone grateful. “Yeah, it does.”
Or: Bradley sustains several broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder from the mission, and Jake refuses to sit by and watch Bradley handle the recovery all on his own. Pining ensues.

Bradley rolls his eyes and without missing a beat says, “Being one of those guys in Jake’s car.”
The squad laughs at the playful insult as Hondo steps in. “Okay, then I think this is settled. If Seresin loses, Bradshaw gets his car. If Bradshaw loses, he goes for a date in said car.”
Yeah, those are terms Jake can agree to. He takes a couple of steps toward Bradley and offers his hand. “Fight’s on?”
Bradley shakes it in agreement. It’s official.
“Fight’s on!”

Summary
“And since my flight got rerouted I have to stay at a hotel nearby. It’s supposed to be a nice one at least.” Jake sounds a bit on the annoyed side considering he’s going to be stuck at a hotel for his entire leave, and Bradley can’t say he blames him.
The idea of Jake having to live out of a hotel doesn’t sit right with Bradley. It sounds just as boring and lonely as it’s been for him alone in his house. He’d hate for his friend to go through that for two weeks.
The perfect solution suddenly dawns on him. At least, it’s perfect logically, but in reality, it’s probably a terrible idea. Oh well. He’s got to jump off the perch sometime, right?
“What if you come stay with me?”

Jake almost can’t believe what he’s hearing. Bradley is actually willing to help him out with this? Does the brunet have any idea of what he’s getting himself into? The two of them are going to have to hold hands, wrap their arms around each other, call each other pet names, kiss each other, and be casually affectionate in every way in front of his entire family. Either Bradley is absolutely insane, or he’s just a great man who’s willing to help his friend out.
“Are you actually saying you’d be down to act as my fake boyfriend for five days?”
Bradley shrugs, a cheeky grin on his face. “That depends…”
“On what?”
”Are you asking me?”
Or: Jake finds himself in need of a fake boyfriend for his sister’s wedding. Bradley, as it turns out, is the only person he knows who can play the role.

Jake was only good as a fake boyfriend for those fifty minutes they periodically spent together at Beginners Diner.
Bradley wanted nothing more from him than to be the guard dog who kept his stupid ex from talking to him, and then to be his usual friend and colleague the rest of the time.
Jake tried to keep all of this mess separated into the various areas of his life, but it was just so, so difficult... more and more difficult as time went by.
Sometimes he sincerely wondered why the fuck he had agreed to all of this, what in God's name had pushed him to say yes to Bradley that goddamned Saturday.
Then Jake remembered Bradley’s soft, full lips, the sweet way his warm, brown gaze rested on him, and how those stolen kisses were the only thing that made him feel as alive as when he was flying.
[Bradley asks Jake to be his fake boyfriend to keep an ex away from him. As time goes by, Jake needs more from Bradley... but he can't have it. Or so he thinks.]
