Work Text:
The old couch is comforting and warm, you lie your head back on the armrest and stare at the fireplace. Heavy rain pitter patters on the roof and glass, but the noise of the rain and the crackle of the fire are soothing to you. You find you can barely keep your eyes open, your breaths shifting to yawns. You shuffle around, trying not to fall asleep.
After a clap of thunder, your husband appears. Lingering behind the couch, he notices your drooping lids.
“Falling asleep already?”
A gentle taunt, whispered in a soft tone. He moves over in front of you, and settles down beside you. His vibrant red hair is illuminated by the flickering flames, his gentle green eyes reflect them, golden sparks in a sea of chartreuse.
“Honestly, I can’t blame you for dozing off. What else is there to do on such a miserable day like this? Well, I’ve been busying myself with writing but you, darling, you’re a farmer!”
“I’d quite like to just… doze off.”
He lies down atop your chest, you find your mouth stuffed with his bright hair. You sleepily rest a hand on his back, and the other atop the crown of his head. You slowly comb your fingers through his soft hair. He smells like pomegranates.
“A crackling fire adds wonderful ambiance to the house… every piece of wood burns in a unique way.”
“They do, don’t they.”
You mutter, his sentences dully penetrating your exhausted mind.
You shuffle your hands and pull him closer to you, burying your blushing head into his hair.
“I love you”
“I love you too, my dear”
