Work Text:
It was a peaceful Sunday evening and the class has somehow gotten onto the topic of their happiest childhood memory.
Midoriya thought that it was fascinating how much they cherished their memories. So, without missing a beat he pulled a notebook out of seemingly nowhere and wrote his rambles down so he could organise them later.
Caught off guard while he was focusing on his notebook he didn't realize that everyone's attention was turned to him. He blinked a few times as his brain processed what they had asked of him.
"Eh?" Was all that he could say and thankfully the class didn't say anything about it. "What about you Midoriya-kun?" Ashido asked him in a cheerful manner.
"What's your happiest childhood memory?"
Midoriya thought about it and the longer he did the more he realised that he couldn't actually remember…
The earliest memories he had was when Kacchan fell down from that log in the woods. But he couldn't really call that a happy let alone the happiest memory he had. Perhaps because deep down he knew that after that day his friend grew more and more aggressive towards him.
Another memory that he couldn't quite place anywhere was when Kacchan had cornered him. But he didn't like thinking about that. Everything on that day felt wrong and thinking about it felt wrong. So he didn't.
Slowly but surely he made his way through all of his childhood memories only to come to the shocking realisation that he didn't remember. In fact he could barely remember anything when it came to his childhood.
"I-" His voice breaks as this unsettling realisation dawns upon him. "I don't actually remember that many good things?" He sounded unsure of himself and could see in the eyes of the others how much it hurt to hear that.
"Wh- what do you mean Deku-kun?" Someone asked but Midoriya couldn't tell who it was. His thoughts were spiralling because even though he tried so hard to remember anything, anything good, he couldn't.
"I. I'm sorry guys but I'm not feeling that well…"
And with that he left the room in an eerie silence with a question stuck in everyone's mind.
Why didn't he remember?
