Work Text:

Beca and Chloe have been dating for a couple years. On their second year anniversary, Beca decided to ask Chloe to move in with her in LA. Chloe had just graduated from her vet program so she was free to move wherever she wanted, what better place than LA, where her love is. They had been doing the long distance thing throughout their whole relationship so they were excited to finally get to be together again.

Things were going really great for the couple, they did everything together and still managed to not get on each other’s nerves. Living together in the Bella house during their times at Barden really helped them get acclimated quickly. They moved around each other like a dance when in the kitchen, during their nightly bedtime routine, and even in the morning when getting ready for work. They understood each other, they worked, and they were very happy.

For as much as they were getting along, there was one thing that Beca was slowly starting to lose her mind over. That was the fact that Chloe insisted on only having healthy snacks around the house, which was a huge problem for Beca who was the “snacker” between the two of them. Beca being Beca and head over heels in love with Chloe, she couldn’t say no or dare go against Chloe in this respect.

Only having healthy snacks in the house meant any kind of chips, cookies, candy, or even desserts were not present in the house. Any kind of snacks came in the form of fresh fruits and vegetables or, if they were any of the “forbidden kind” (as Beca liked to mockingly call them), they were not the best tasting and so Beca avoided them like the plague.

Sure, Beca could understand the benefit of choosing more healthier options for a snack, but sometimes she just wanted a bag of Doritos or a pint of ice cream goddammit.

After the first few weeks of only munching on veggie sticks and cubed fruit for dessert, Beca couldn’t take it anymore. She would secretly go to the grocery store during her lunch break and buy all her favorite snacks. She kept some in her office and then snuck home when she knew Chloe would be at work and hide the snacks around the house where she knew Chloe wouldn’t be able to find it.

Beca hid her favorite chips in drawers in her office/studio at home that weren’t frequently used or opened. She kept some of her favorite cookies hidden in a corner of the pantry away from anyone’s line of sight and covered by a box of cereal no one really touched. She hid her favorite ice cream behind some leftovers that neither would dare check out and open. She even hid some candy in the back of her nightstand drawer in their room. There were snacks hidden all over the house. She was desperate, sue her.

This went on for several weeks. Beca was able to snack on her favorite junk foods while Chloe had absolutely no idea. When she would snack, it was usually when she was working in her office/home studio, on the rare occasion that she was home before Chloe, or even in the middle of the night if a craving hit her. Chloe had no clue what she was up to and Beca felt pretty proud of herself.

One weekend when both Beca and Chloe were home, Chloe decided it was a great time to do some spring cleaning. Cleaning was not Beca’s thing so she made up an excuse to get out of it and locked herself up in her home studio, saying she had some important work to finish up (there was no work).

Chloe just giggled and shook her head at how adverse to cleaning her girlfriend was and just let her go. She didn’t mind doing it on her own anyways, cleaning was always an activity Chloe loved to do to clear her mind and relax.

She decided to start with the kitchen and then move her way into the living room.

As she was going through the pantry, she noticed a box of cereal near the back that was basically expired. When she went to grab the box and toss it in the bin, she saw that a few cookie packages fell from behind the cereal box.

I don’t remember putting these here. Chloe thought to herself. These were not the healthy cookies that they normally had around the house. She figured it must’ve been left over from before they cleared the house of all the unhealthy food. It was behind an old box of cereal so it must’ve just been overlooked. Chloe thought nothing of it, placed them on the counter, and continued on clearing and cleaning the rest of the pantry.

As she finished up the pantry, she moved to the kitchen counters and stove. Once those were wiped down, she decided to attack the fridge. She knew they had quite a few boxes of leftovers from God only knows how long ago, so she knew to proceed with caution. Chloe ended up throwing away a couple takeout boxes, but they were nothing too severe.

When she finished with the fridge, she moved on to the freezer. There were a few casseroles left in there from their house warming party about a month ago that they never ended up eating. She decided to clear those out to make more room in the freezer. When she went to grab the last couple casseroles, she saw behind them were a couple pints of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, one was half eaten and the other was still sealed.

Now Chloe was starting to get suspicious. She knew this had to be Beca and not some left overs from the house warming party. It was mostly confirmed with the flavors of ice cream being Beca’s all time favorite, Cherry Garcia and Chunky Monkey. She decided to leave them there for now and talk to Beca about them later.

With the kitchen cleaned and done, Chloe moved on to the living room.

As she was putting items away in the entertainment center around their television, she opened one of the cabinet doors to find a whole bag of fruit snack packs sitting with their dvds. With all the streaming services they have access to, this cabinet has had less and less use, so Chloe did have to give Beca some credit, this was a great place to hide something.

As she added her new discovery to the growing pile on the kitchen counter, she knew exactly who all these snacks belonged to. It was kind of cute that her girlfriend would go through all that trouble. Beca really is still like a child in some ways, Chloe found it endearing.

After a few more minutes, and another handful of snacks later, she finally finished cleaning and decided to confront Beca about the snacks. She wanted to give her a chance to fess up, she just liked to watch Beca squirm.

“Hey babe….” Chloe called out as she opened up the door to Beca’s home studio.

Beca had a mouthful of chips and another chip in her hand by the time Chloe’s head peaked around the door. She frantically chewed and swallowed what was left and tried to discreetly throw the rest of her bag of chips into her bottom drawer.

“Yeah, what’s up?” Beca answered while trying to wipe off the crumbs from her face.

“I’m pretty much finished with cleaning up the rest of the place, I was gonna work on your studio next. Are you in a good spot with work where I can kick you out?” Chloe asked her as she slowly made her way to Beca’s desk.

She made it to the back of Beca’s desk and Beca spun her chair around in order for Chloe to sit on her lap. As Chloe sat down, Beca wrapped her arms around her waist and gave her a sweet kiss on the lips.

Potato chips… Chloe thought as she pulled back from the kiss. I knew it.

“Let me just save my work and I’ll get out of your way.” Beca answered as Chloe got off her lap.

Chloe hung around waiting for Beca to finish up. As Beca rolled her chair back to get up, she heard a crack from under one of the wheel of her chair.

Shit! She thought to herself.

She glanced down and saw she had rolled over a chip that didn’t make it into the drawer when she tossed the rest of the bag.

“You ok?” Chloe asked.

“Yeah. Actually…” Beca looked down at the mess of crumbs she just created, “...How about I just finish up the cleaning in here. You’ve been working really hard all day.Take a break.” she said as she got up and walked towards Chloe in order to keep her from going to the back of her desk. She wrapped her arms around the redhead's waist and placed a sweet kiss on her lips.

Chloe just raised her eyebrow at her, she knew something was up.

“Hmmm, I think there’s a better chance of this being cleaned if I do it.” she said as she unwrapped herself from Beca and started stepping away.

“Half an hour, that’s all it’ll take. Go out there and watch a show, take a nap, I don’t care. Just stay out of here so I can work my magic.” Chloe said as she guided Beca towards the door.

Beca tried to protest and pushed back a bit to stay in the room. Chloe eventually backed her through the door, enough to slam the door in her face mid-protest. Chloe just smirked on the other side of the door. She can tell Beca was just standing there with how she didn’t hear footsteps walking away.

Beca just stared at her studio door with her mouth hanging open. She knew she was busted now that Chloe was alone in her studio with the crumbs she just made.

She sighed and finally walked away towards the living room. As she turned the corner to the living room, she peaked through the open concept layout and saw her big stash of junk food sitting on the kitchen counter.

“Oh shit…” she mumbled quietly. She heard someone clear their throat behind her. She slowly turned around and saw Chloe leaning against the wall, arms crossed in front of her, eyebrows cocked, and smirked on her face.

“Have something to share with me babe?” Chloe teased.

“Baby, I can explain all of this.” Beca tried to explain as she quickly made her way to Chloe and grabbed her hands, leading them to the couch so she could explain.

“That food…is…not mine. Um…it’s uh…it’s uhhmmmm…Stacie’s! Yea Stacie’s stash.” Beca tried to offer a convincing excuse. “Aubrey has been kind of strict with her and Bella recently, so she wondered if she could keep some of her stash here. And I….” Beca was just digging her hole deeper. “...I know you don’t let this stuff in the house either, but I haven’t eaten any of it.” she continued to ramble.

Chloe just sat not saying a word and mockingly nodding her head and humming in agreement with what Beca was saying. Beca just kept rambling the longer that Chloe stayed silent.

After a couple more minutes of rambling and excuses, Beca finally gave up with a long sigh, “Alright, I give up. The stash is mine.” she relented.

“Uh huh, I see.” Chloe said in a semi-serious tone.

“Yea, I’m sorry baby. But I can’t take all these healthy snacks anymore! They’re dry as hell and just not good. I’ve tried to enjoy them babe, but I’m sorry I just can’t.” Beca gave up trying and just let all her feelings come out. “I’m sorry for going behind your back, babe.” she said as she stared at her hands that were sitting in Chloe’s lap.

“Baby, I’m not mad.” Chloe giggled as she smiled at Beca. She grabbed Beca’s face to get her to look at her. “I just wish you would’ve told me how you really felt.” she said.

“I honestly kept getting those other snacks because you kept saying they were good and how much you enjoyed them.” Chloe laughed.

“What?!” Beca’s eyes went wide as Chloe explained it to her.

“Yea, whenever we would eat them together, you would rave about how much you liked them so I just kept buying them. Honestly I was surprised, but I was starting to slowly get tired of the snacks as well.” she continued laughing.

“I can’t believe you! Why didn’t you just tell me? I would’ve said to avoid them in a heartbeat.” Beca said with a smile growing on her face.

“Honestly, I should have known when you said that those chips were better than Doritos.” Chloe said as she giggled.

“Oh yeah, dead give away. I can’t believe you didn’t catch on then.” Beca laughed.

“Awww, I’m sorry baby. I didn’t mean to make you miserable with all this.” Chloe said softly as she slowly leaned in to give Beca a kiss.

“I wasn’t miserable all the time. As you can see from my big stash.” Beca giggled as she broke out of the kiss.

“I’m sorry again, babe.” she said as she leaned in for one last kiss.

“It’s ok. It’s honestly kind of cute. It was like a mini treasure hunt when I was cleaning this afternoon” Chloe said.

Beca let out a full laugh, “Ok, well now, what do we do with all of this.” she said as she got up and walked towards the kitchen. Chloe got up and followed right behind her.

“Well it would be a waste to just toss them all out. I guess we can keep them around.” Chloe gave in. Beca looked as happy as if her parents just said yes to keeping a stray dog.

“BUT…” Chloe quickly added.

“No! No 'buts'" Beca whined.

Chloe just laughed, “...but we enjoy it in moderation. Don’t indulge all at once, let’s pace ourselves.” she added.

“Ok, I’ll take that.” Beca agreed and leaned in for a kiss.
