Work Text:
It’s 2 weeks after they break up when it happens for the first time.
Come over I miss you
Blaine knows Sebastian is just drunk, lonely and horny and none of his other options have worked out for the evening. After all, that was the reason they broke up, wasn’t it?
There’s been no one else since you, Blaine. Please, just tonight.
He should say go to sleep Sebastian or get some water, you’re gonna need it in the morning, but instead he thinks. He knows Sebastian has been staying with Nick the past couple of weeks; looking for a new place in New York is not easy, and he knows everyone assumed they would kind of just make their way back to each other. It’s why he almost doesn’t send the response he shoots off.
Almost.
Is Nick home?
He can practically see Sebastian’s sloppy drunk grin on the other side of the phone.
Nope
The walk to Nick’s apartment is barely five minutes and luckily, one of his neighbors is heading in the building at the same time Blaine arrives. He feels like electricity is flowing through his veins as he knocks on the apartment door only once before it flies open and Sebastian is standing there, drink in his hand, hair messy like he’s been running his hand through it wondering if Blaine would show.
“I missed you.” Sebastian says through a breathless laugh.
“You said that.” Blaine grabs Sebastian’s drink, downing the rest of it, trying not to wince (Sebastian was always better at straight liquor than he was), and proceeds to pull him toward the bedroom. “Why don’t you come show me how much?”
They giggle like lovestruck teenagers as they make their way down the hall, and Blaine thinks two can play this game. If Sebastian is allowed to call him late at night, obviously only one thing on his mind, is it so bad for Blaine to want it too?
They kiss as they make their way over to the bed, and Blaine isn’t drunk enough as his ex to audibly admit that he has missed this too. But the way his body shivers when Sebastian removes his shirt forces him to say aloud, “Just this once, right?”
Sebastian presses him back onto the bed, laughing lightly behind his ear and breathes out, “Sure, Blaine, just this once.”
He’s beginning to forget why they broke up in the first place.
He remembers now.
It's been 8 days, 15 hours, and 12 minutes since they saw each other last and not a single shred of communication from Sebastian.
And look, he doesn’t expect to be thanked for sex exactly, especially not from a person who was less of a one night stand and more of a slip back into old habits, but when he woke up in the morning and Sebastian was just…gone?
Well, all he could think was that maybe Sebastian didn’t miss him as much as he thought he did.
Has he walked past Nick’s apartment in the past 8 days, 15 hours and 12 minutes?
Sure, it’s on the way to his bagel place, and his craving for bagels may have increased a little in the past week or so.
Does he look up at the window where he knows Nick’s apartment faces out onto the street every time?
Sure, it would only be polite to say hello to his friend if he were enjoying his morning cup of coffee out on his fire escape.
(Nevermind that he’s never seen Nick awake before 1 pm a day in his adult life.)
Is there finally someone standing out on the fire escape when he looks today?
Why, yes, yes there is.
“Hey Romeo, you lookin for me? Otherwise, we’re gonna have to call the cops because we’ve got a stalker on our hands.”
Everything Sebastian does is absolutely infuriating. He’s clearly been watching Blaine go by, trying (and failing) to look cool about their night together for at least a week. He’s wearing Dalton lacrosse sweatpants that have to be at least 10 years old, but look like the latest designer wear on him, and he’s just smiling, waiting for Blaine’s response.
“Can you buzz me up please?”
Sebastian laughs and goes back inside and Blaine can feel the annoyance bubbling up inside him, but there’s something else too. That anticipation like that night, like he wants even though he knows he shouldn’t. When the door buzzes and he finally makes his way up to the apartment, Sebastian is standing in the doorway, head cocked to the side like it’s Postmates he didn’t remember ordering.
Blaine can’t help but blurt out, “Why didn’t you call me?”
At this, Sebastian looks genuinely confused. “You asked me not to.”
“I didn’t…I…”
“You said, ‘just this once, right?’” Sebastian recalls, smirking, but also looking a little sad, “Of course I wanted to call you, Blaine, but we broke up. I didn’t think you wanted exes with benefits, and I’m sorry about that night, but I…”
“I’m not.”
Sebastian stops talking and Blaine starts again. “I’m not sorry about that night, and I don’t want exes with benefits. The only thing I am sorry for is making you feel like I thought you were looking elsewhere.”
At this, Sebastian pulls him closer, tilting his chin up and staring into his eyes so closely that everything is starting to blur together. Blaine can’t say he minds it.
“The only place I’m ever looking,” Sebastian whispers, “is at you.”
Blaine can’t help but smile into the kiss as Sebastian pulls him closer, his arms wrapping around Blaine’s shoulders, his back gently pressing against the doorframe as they stand there for a few moments in their own little bubble.
Until they hear: “Oh thank god, does this mean you’re moving out?”
They turn and see Nick standing in the hallway, grocery bags in hand and Blaine laughs as Sebastian contemplates it for a moment and responds, “Not before we say goodbye properly.”
And before Blaine knows it, he’s being tugged down the hallway toward the bedroom he was in barely a week ago, laughing as he hears “Sebastian, those are clean sheets!” behind him and “Not for long” in front of him.
He hopes just this once can turn into forever.
