He squeezes his eyes shut, then opens them again. He lifts his arms to look at them in the dim light. They're heavy. There's a needle in his left hand, connected by a tube to the clear plastic bag half-full with some transparent liquid hanging on the stand by his bed. Something clasped around his finger with a coiled wire going god-knows where, probably one of the machines. There's some bandages on his arms. He touches his face. A bandaid on the right side of his forehead. The tubes still going into his nose. He can feel the other tubes and bandages on his body too, under the covers.
He sighs.
Alright, it was probably a serious accident but he's fine.
