Chapter Text
“You really should have let Mr. Stark lend you that tent, Peter.” Ned inspects the end of a tent pole, then flips it around to check the other end. “Like, can you imagine? You just push one button and bam , a whole ass tent? Like, an Iron Man tent? That would be so sick.”
“Yeah, and have everyone else pissed at us that we’re not really camping? No thanks,” Peter snorts, looking around at the rest of their classmates setting up tents in the distance.
“Well. I still think it would have been super cool,” Ned mutters, finally making progress with the tent poles.
“You losers haven’t pitched the tent yet?” MJ quips, approaching with an armful of firewood. She stacks it in a neat pile by a nearby tree, then grabs a pole from Ned. “I have to do everything around here.”
Together, the three of them assemble their tent, then set up their sleeping bags inside. Peter’s stomach growls loudly as they finish, and the three of them laugh.
“Time to build a fire, I guess,” Peter says, blushing, and MJ digs through her backpack to find him a granola bar.
Peter builds a fire quickly using advice Tony had given him, and soon their campfire is roaring. They cook hotdogs on sticks and eat them as the sun begins to set, finishing almost two packs between the three of them. When they’re done eating, Peter scoots closer to the fire, stretching his hands out in front of him for warmth, but it’s not quite enough for his spider-DNA and he’s soon shaking from the chilly air.
“Peter, you’re shivering,” MJ says, her voice quiet and full of concern. Peter laughs and wraps his arms around himself.
“Yeah, the sun’s starting to go down. I’m going to go grab my hoodie. You guys want yours?”
Ned and MJ nod, and Peter hops up, walking to their tent and pulling sweatshirts out of each of their backpacks. He tosses Ned and MJ their hoodies and pulls his own on, chuckling when he realizes what he and his friends are wearing.
“Nice hoodies,” he grins.
Ned looks at Peter, then at MJ, and then down at his own MIT hoodie.
“We’re triplets!”
“We’re losers,” MJ says, but her smile matches Ned’s. She rolls her eyes and elbows Ned. “Pass me the marshmallows, I’m ready for a s’more.”
As the sky grows darker, Peter pulls his hood up over his head, cold but incredibly content. On his right, Ned is having a “perfect marshmallow” competition, mostly with himself, his contagious laughter ringing out through the woods. On his left, MJ scoots closer and slides her hand into his hoodie pocket, and Peter tucks his hand in next to hers.
“I’m tired,” MJ yawns, resting her head on Peter’s shoulders and Peter, giggling, nods and leans over and puts his head on Ned’s shoulder, and they laugh until it’s time to crawl into their sleeping bags and fall asleep side by side.
