betrayal was the only word pounding against his skull as he raced his horse through the rain, galloping fast and reckless with his throat clenched tight and his knuckles deathly white. betrayal was the only word he allowed himself to think until it played like mantra in his head, beating to the sound of his rigid breath. he kept dissecting it over and over again, afraid of the moment another word came.
but it came; it had to come. the longer he struggled against it, the deeper it would cut once he released it.
