Sweet Serenity [The Calm before the Storm]

Summary:

To which Noé brings Vanitas to the beach after stupidly begging for days on end. To which Vanitas ends up having a bit of fun but wouldn’t admit to that.

To the point where Noé wishes to confess in their time together under the pale moonlight, admiring Vanitas’ beauty from what feels like afar. Are they as close as he thought? Probably.

Or, Pov: Atlas really loves Vanitas, wrote a love letter to a 2D character and disguised it as Noé /j

Notes:

I’m considering making this a bit of a series, a short one at that. People have been thirsting for bottom Noé so I might deliver under this title. Depends on whether I get a set amount of kudos or reads or idk COMMENTS MAYBE
y’all should comment more smh/t

Work Text:

Every drop that nearly sounded as it rolled down porcelain skin that bore a dash of a red hue, silky locks of raven hair waving in the wind. Stars speckled along the sky to which clouds muddled in grays acted as a solemn curtain over the glimmering moonlight. He was gorgeous. Like an art piece. Ocean water lapping up against his legs, pushing against his thighs. The poor doctor was petite, yet ever more beautiful. The smile that barely touched his lips as the sea breeze fanned against his face, sleeves rolled up past his forearm with droplets of water rolling down them. The warm sand against his feet in contrast to the other, standing along the shore with colorful shells piled up around him. Failed attempts of sand castles slumped over, marks as though an animal had tried to make it. Claw-tipped fingers, yet he knew it was Vanitas simply trying to help.

“Noé.”

Ah. Noé snapped out of his thoughts, noticing how cerulean eyes were on his. He found a goofy smile rising to his cheeks, “Vanitas?” Giddy. He felt as such whenever the other would call his name. The other stared at him briefly, cerulean eyes glimmering under the soft moonlight to which bore such sweet serenity.

“I was asking if you wanted to leave yet,” Vanitas snorted, “But your head was up your arse!” The other seemed to pout, looking side with a frown. Vanitas was breathtaking, how could one simply ignore such a thing?! Well, it wasn’t as though Noé would say such a thing out loud. No matter how many times he had… it fell on deaf ears.

“Non!” Noé gasped, “Let’s stay some time longer!” He wobbled down the shore, running toward the other with his shoes left in the sand. He made sure his pant legs were rolled up as were Vanitas’, the waves crashing rather gently against his legs. Vanitas blinked back shock but didn’t say anything against the other’s willing attempt to approach him.

The ocean sand was soft under the vampire’s feet, general curiosity causing one to peer about and see if there are any little creatures. His fingers prodding at the soft sand below him as new layers of water pressed against him.

“You’ll lose a finger if you keep poking around like that,” Vanitas warned with a deadpan expression.

“Seriously?!” Noé shot up back into a standing position, waving his wet hand against the wind. That was until Vanitas broke into joyful laughter.

Beautiful.

Vanitas brought his gloved hands to his lips, simply laughing harder upon the other’s dumbfounded expression, “You’re truly an idiot, Noé.”

Yeah. He was an idiot. The doctor stood a pace or two from him, laughter being nothing short of sweet music to his ears. It wasn’t often that he heard the other chime in laughter, nearly on the brink of crying out of laughter. It was beautiful. Cerulean eyes glowing under the pale moonlight, a toothy grin bearing such happiness that Noé thought his heart would burst. Perhaps his ask of him and Vanitas going to the beach was worth it. Asking the doctor to the brink of annoyance, yet despite that, Vanitas had a blast. At least, Noé hoped he had. Standing in the ocean with such a peaceful look, it was absolutely worth it. Worth getting scorned for being demanding, yet nonetheless, it didn’t come down to a bad argument. Tarte Tatin still a taste on his tongue when Vanitas had made him some as an apology, holding it out with a sheepish expression. As though Noé wouldn’t fling himself unto the other in a tight hug. Yet he didn’t. He merely took the plate and thanked the other repeatedly.

It was delicious.

Vanitas was wonderful. Even when he wanted to be alone, even when he pushed Noé aside. Even if Noé hated it, he wanted to forever support the other. Yet he found the hourglass running out. What is he to do? Confess?

The last time… that went horribly. It was hardly a confession. Or was it twice he had tried? Oh, he forgets.

Yet as they stood thoughtlessly in comfortable silence, he made a horrid mistake.

“I like you.” What… the…? Noé snapped his mouth shut, looking at the other to whom returned his expression with an a taken-aback one.

“Ah… so now you say you don’t hate me?” Vanitas blinked, “I think I already knew that.”

Saved! Yet… he felt oddly sad that Vanitas hadn’t realized what he meant.

“What? Why are you looking at me like that?” The doctor snorted, resting a hand on his hip.

Noé’s face scrunched up as though he smelt something bad, frowning, “What? Why are you looking at me like that?!”

Vanitas sneered, looking aside toward the night sky. Perhaps… he didn’t like how Vanitas didn’t ever catch on to his confessions. “The moon is pretty, huh?” Vanitas absentmindedly muttered, gaze held to the big, beautiful moon.

Noé followed Vanitas’ gaze, finding himself letting out a small sigh, “It really is.”

Perhaps it won’t be tonight that he can confess. Perhaps it could take him weeks, months, or years. When it comes down to it… he’s just happy Vanitas is near. That Noé could stay by the other’s side for as long as he pleases.

Vanitas was beautiful.

Notes:

I wrote this during my class because I suck at maps and shit so I went and put on my earphones, blasted helpless on loop, and wrote this beautiful fluffy piece. I mainly write angst so it has snippets of that. I decided to write from Noé’s pov bc babey is,,, not as complex to write as Vanitas but I’ll probably add a chapter two of Vanitas’ pov from this chapter and then add another one and another and eventually make it a series
But who knows! Also, I had an issue with spacing when it came to Noé’s name. I might be able to fix it in the future but I gave up.
Love, Atlas.
Edit: Fixed it. Mightve missed a few
