Summary
Years after Shepard became a Spectre, her mentor (and sometimes lover) Saren lost his arm in an 'incident'. Saren maintained contact but did not see Shepard in person for nearly two years. All the while, he worked missions with the other member of the relationship, Nihlus. Saren finally decided to stop pushing Shepard away and invited both Shepard and Nihlus to his home on Virmire for what should be a reconciliation. (Non-Reaper AU)

Kind of a bitter ending but an expected one.

Saren as an indoctrinated lover before he realizes he’s indoctrinated. Nihlus/Saren/shepard: The gas-lighting is impressive, both to himself and Shepard. Nihlus figures it out is a series of “dawning horror” scenes. Saren doesn’t think anything is wrong with himself: until the end. Author tortured themselves by admission, but it’s a great read as the reader gets to dive down the rabbit hole of horror gradually with Nihlus.
