Work Text:
Renjun’s never been in love. Between moving to a new country, becoming a trainee, then going on to be a part of one of the biggest groups in South Korea, he just never found the time. Sure, he lost his virginity to that one girl way back when and yeah, he’s fooled around with a few other people here and there; after live stages and secret nights out. But he’s never been in love, never even dated anyone, truthfully.
But what does it mean to be in love, anyways?
🐰
They’re in LA when it happens. When slow descent turns into quick free fall.
Only just back from being out all day, Jaemin’s nose is slightly sunburned and his slippers are in his hands instead of on his feet. Standing in the hallway, in between their two separate hotel rooms: one for Jeno and Jaemin, one for Renjun, Jisung and Chenle - of course, Renjun put up an argument about this at first, — ‘why do I have to share with the kids? It’s as if I’m not the oldest here…’ — he threw his little hissy fit, crossed his arms and put on his best frowny face, but a mumbled Mark wouldn’t treat me like this, one shoulder massage and an exactly, Jun, that’s why we’re putting you in charge from Jeno later, he got over it. Almost. Renjun still doesn’t believe Jeno though, not one bit. And how come he’s always rooming with Jaemin anyways?
But it’s fine, because he gets to see Jaemin now, like this, up close - sunny and sunburned, Jeno Lee a distant thought, gone hunting down a vending machine, or whatever Jaemin-hoggers like to do in their free time.
Jaemin has his hand on the handle of his door, ready to go in and rest his day of adventures and rollercoasters off. But the white Universal Studios bag hiding behind Renjun’s hip is enough to deter him - sometimes Renjun wishes his friend wasn’t so observant.
Jaemin smiles wide, ‘what you got there, Junnie?’ He asks, shifting onto his left side and then to his right side, trying his best to sneak a peek, though Renjun is quick to back himself up against his door, plastic bag out of sight.
He wants to say: nothing, to fish his keycard out, run into his room and shower off the sticky summer's day. He thinks he might do just that, until his friend begins to make grabby hands in front of him and instead, Renjun stays.
‘Well, it’s…’ It’s kind of silly really, how Renjun only seems to struggle with his words like this in front of Jaemin, when it’s just them - Jaemin who stares and stares and stares with big, stupid brown eyes that make Renjun all jittery and freaked out.
When speaking fails him, Renjun moves on to action; he shoves the bag into his friend’s chest.
Jaemin startles with an oof, but is quick to move on, putting his slippers under his arms, Renjun even sees him wriggle his toes in excitement on the navy carpet below; it’s kind of gross, sure, but that’s just Jaemin, through and through.
When he opens the bag, Jaemin’s eyebrows shoot up behind his fringe. Renjun’s stomach twists into tight knots at the sight, he feels so on edge but he’s not sure why.
“I got it for you,” he mumbles with his back pressed against the door still.
“For me?” Jaemin asks, continuing to stare into the bag in disbelief.
Renjun nods his head, yes.
Briefly, he remembers coming out of the gift shop today, Chenle seeing the shopping bag and saying something along the lines of I saw this and thought of you…? It can’t get any more sick and romantic than that, hyung. But he swats the memory away.
Whatever. All he knows is that Jaemin is obsessed with this stupid rabbit, and what was he going to do? See it and not get it? He didn’t make Chenle sit and wait outside that gift shop for no reason. So he bought the damn thing, who cares?
Not Renjun.
Not even when Jaemin pulls the plush toy out from the bag, sounds of pure delight — oh my god’s, oo’s and aa’s — spilling from his mouth.
Suddenly Renjun finds his shoes very interesting. He doesn’t know why he feels so embarrassed, it’s just a simple gift. I saw this and thought of you, it’s not that weird and it’s not as if Jaemin has ever made fun of him before; not when Renjun didn’t feel like tagging along on his and Jeno’s cycling trip, not when he refused to join them both in the gym either and not even today when he opted for Universal Studios instead of Six Flags. Jaemin is one of the sweetest people Renjun knows. Sure, he teases him mercifully, likes to tug on his ears until they burn red and Renjun has no option but to fight back, but that’s as far as he ever goes, because Jaemin is a lot of things, but never is he mean.
Jaemin is staring at him now, rabbit plushie in his hand down by his side, it’s as if he wants to say something but he doesn’t, and Renjun’s not sure what to do. Does he say goodnight and walk away, does he stay and try his best to ignore the feelings that are fizzing up underneath the surface of his skin, ones that make him all sweaty and nervous?
Jaemin finally speaks up, ‘Injunnie,’ he says, pulling Renjun out of his head and back into the dimly lit hallway. ‘This is the cutest thing ever,’ he gushes.
Renjun looks at him then, shyly. He asks: ‘you like it?’
Jaemin’s smile is so big now that if Renjun squints hard enough he could probably try and count all of his friend's teeth, one by one.
‘Like it? I love it,’ beams Jaemin, bringing the fluffy toy up to his chest.
Renjun nods, more so to himself. He should probably get a move on now, knowing full well he has yet to double-check his hotel room to make sure everything’s packed and nothing gets left behind before they head home tomorrow morning. By now Jeno is probably on his way back from the vending machine, it’s also getting to be seriously late, and Renjun is aware that they have to be up early tomorrow, though he can’t help but wish, more than anything, for time to stop… if only for a few more minutes.
Because with the way Jaemin is looking at him, Renjun’s not so sure he can will himself to walk away. Not when there are all these sweet feelings swirling around in his tummy, making him feel nervous and lightheaded whenever he looks at his happy friend, it’s enough to make Renjun think that maybe all the waiting in line and all the pictures being taken of him today were worth it in the end. He wishes he could find the words he wants to say, Jaemin deserves to know them and they deserve to be set free, but he can’t. Not now, not here, he doesn’t have the guts.
It’s Jeno skipping down the hallway that pulls him out of his head this time. Renjun looks to Jaemin who is still happy as ever and then to a sun-kissed Jeno who’s holding a heap of junk food in his arms; Jeno who gets to spend the night with Jaemin, no questions asked. At that thought, Renjun feels an ugly emotion curl up around his heart for the very first time. Quickly, he nods his head again, his eyes flickering to Jeno in acknowledgement and back to Jaemin who’s already looking at him in wonder. And woah, this hallway is seriously warm, Renjun starts to feel himself burn from head to toe.
Nodding once more to no one in particular, he turns around and somehow manages to pull his keycard out from his back pocket without dropping it miserably, hoping neither of them is staring at him but knowing that they probably are as he stumbles clumsily into his room.
With his back pressed to the closed door, he hears a what's with him from Jeno, but there’s no response from Jaemin, only silence followed by a soft click of a shut door. He closes his eyes and bangs the back of his head off the wood behind him in frustration.
“I take it that went swimmingly?” Chenle snorts from somewhere in the room. Renjun doesn’t have it in him to fight back, only grunts out a shut up before toeing off his shoes and locking himself into the bathroom.
🐰
It takes a take a picture of me, Injunnie-hyung and a post me on your story, Injunnie-hyung — truly, it riles Renjun up to no end that Jaemin will only ever call him hyung when he wants something — for Renjun to finally begin to crack.
Jaemin squats down in front of the elevator, asking Jeno to hold his phone and wallet so that he can hold up the Snowball plushie to show it off for the picture. His face is slightly covered with his mask, and his hat is creating a shadow over his forehead, but his eyes remain the same happy and warm from last night when he looks up to the camera; making Renjun start to sweat under his arms. He snaps the picture with his eyes barely open, praying to god his phone will die so he can walk away scot-free with an excuse.
‘What are you gonna say?’ Jaemin asks, his knees cracking a little when he stands up only to crowd into Renjun’s space, wanting to take a look at the picture; he smells like expensive European perfume and that chocolate shampoo he’s always using too much of, and Renjun’s fingers begin to tremble over their close proximity, Jaemin doesn’t seem to notice but Renjun is sure Jeno’s caught on, ‘say something cute for the fans,’ he whispers and then the elevator is dinging open.
When Jaemin turns around to step in, Jeno slots in right beside him, his designated spot. Renjun doesn’t get in, says something about waiting for Chenle and Jisung, and slowly backs away from the elevator. He sees Jeno’s eyes narrowing and Jaemin cocking his head to the side in confusion, but the doors shut tight before either of them can say a thing.
Renjun does wait for his friends, but he also goes to add Jaemin’s picture to his story.
it looks like him so i bought it kkkk
If he uploads the same picture to his Bubble, how will Jaemin know?
Chenle and Jisung arrive shortly after Renjun presses send on the Bubble message and shoves his phone back into his pants pocket. Chenle presses the elevator button and gives him a questioning look, but doesn’t say anything. Renjun exhales in relief, stepping into the elevator and willing his nerves to calm down.
They have an almost twelve-hour flight home, but honestly, nothing sounds better.
🐰
One long-haul flight, several naps and some bad inflight food later, they’re home. Stumbling off the plane, praying they look somewhat presentable for the hoards of fans waiting for them. Renjun’s grateful, he truly is, but all he wants to do now is crawl into his bed until the sun is rising again tomorrow.
He keeps his gaze on the floor as he walks behind their team, not sure where his members are, if they’re behind him or in front of him. Their security is trying their best to keep fans and cameras away, but somehow someone is still stepping on his toes and slamming against his shoulder, sending him stumbling back a little. Nevertheless, Renjun is a professional, his heart may be beating furiously in his chest and his eyes may be starting to sting from all the bright continuous flashes, but he can do this. So he hikes up his shoulder bag and pushes on through the crowd, praying the exit is near.
Though, suddenly there is a body moving out from behind Renjun, stepping out to walk ahead, startling him a little. And when he looks up from the floor Renjun sees that it’s Jaemin. Jaemin who has his earphones in and his head down low, but has slowed down his pace just enough that the expanse of his back covers Renjun’s frame, blocking and taking most of the hits from the camera flashes, instead.
It’s not until they’re home in the dorms that night that Renjun finally has time to think about it all.
About soft plush toys, curious glances and broad backs protecting him from fanfare.
He’s laying on his bed, changed into comfy sleep clothes with his hair still damp from the much-needed shower he took earlier on, as soon as he came home. His suitcase still stays unpacked on the far side of his room, but it’s okay, he’ll get to that eventually.
Renjun’s never been in love. If someone asked him what is love, he wouldn’t know what to say. He spent his childhood, his teenage years and the beginning of his twenties surrounded by love, but never has he fallen into love. He loves his members, his family, his fans - cares for all of them a little too much. But being in love is different, he’s never seen someone and thought: you’re my person. He assumed for a long time that, in this life at least, he just wouldn’t have a person.
But then there’s Jaemin.
Jaemin, who after hearing about Renjun’s art therapy, went and bought expensive paint brushes and colouring pencils. Jaemin, who saw Renjun crying one day due to a bout of homesickness, and went to extreme lengths to set up a video call with his parents in China. Jaemin, who makes Renjun’s words lodge in his throat, his fingertips fill with electricity and his cheeks burn bright red.
Woah. Hold on.
Renjun shoots up to a sitting position, his heart jackhammering all over his body.
Somewhere under the covers, his phone vibrates.
hyuck (satan):
renjunnieeeeeeeeee ur back
i missed u did u miss me
mark says hi
injunnnie:
i’m having a crisis
hyuck (satan):
um…
what happened to hello
Renjun isn’t sure what to do. Seriously. He locks his phone, throws it on his bed and tries to ignore how his head starts to pound, and how his limbs feel like jelly as soon as he goes to stand up. He needs air, immediately. But his window is so far away and the door is closer, so he swings it opens and stumbles out into the hallway, bumping into someone in the process.
Looking up he finds that it’s none other than Jaemin… Seriously? It almost feels as if the universe is out to get him, right now.
‘Injunnie? Is everything okay?’ Jaemin asks, lowering his posture to get a closer look at Renjun’s face. ‘You don’t look so good…’ He mumbles, voice full of concern.
Renjun seriously feels like dying, this is too much, this wasn’t the plan. He needs to sit back down.
‘I— Jaemin, I need to—,’ there his voice goes again, he keeps failing miserably, and if Jaemin doesn’t stop looking at him like that he’s going to cry.
‘Okay, okay, come on.’ Jaemin says, soft and patient. He wraps a comforting arm around Renjun’s waist and leads them into the kitchen, making Renjun take a seat at the table while he busies himself with filling up a glass of water. After he’s done, he squats down in front of Renjun, handing him the glass and telling him to drink up, hyung.
Renjun drinks and drinks and drinks, gulping down the water like a dehydrated child. Jaemin stays squatting down, waiting for him to be finished, he doesn’t say anything nor does he ask questions.
After a few seconds Renjun sets the glass down, finally feeling ready to look Jaemin in the eyes, even if doing so makes the hairs on his skin rise and the blood in his veins bubble up.
‘Sorry,’ he mumbles, feeling embarrassed. Jaemin still doesn’t say anything, so he continues, ‘I’m being really stupid lately and I… I don’t know what’s wrong with me and—‘
‘Why are you apologising?’
Renjun closes his mouth. Why is he apologising? He’s not so sure actually, he shrugs half-heartedly.
Jaemin shakes his head, laughing softly, ‘if you’re having a bad day that’s okay, you don’t have to say sorry to me. I understand!’
Renjun bites his tongue, no. Jaemin really does not understand.
‘I’m not having a bad day, though.’ He says.
‘You’re not?’
Renjun shakes his head, no.
Jaemin looks at him in confusion. Standing up, he pulls out a chair to sit down properly in front of Renjun. So what’s up, he asks and Renjun isn’t quite sure what to say. How is he supposed to explain that one stupid toy went and derailed his whole life? I bought this because it reminded me of you, it could have been as simple as that, but it wasn’t. And now Renjun sits here in a cold kitchen, knees anxiously bouncing up and down, with his best friend staring him down. He could get up right now and blame everything on jet lag, could easily walk back to his room and hope Jaemin has forgotten all about this by the morning.
Jaemin’s hand reaches out, settling down on Renjun’s bare knee to stop the shaking, and Renjun can’t take it any longer; it’s only been three days tops, but when he thinks about it… It’s been forever. Maybe it was the first moment he met Jaemin, or maybe it was back in Germany when they stumbled home together after late-night drinks, squishing up against each other in a small hotel bed. Renjun doesn’t know, but what he does know is that—
‘I think I…’ He begins, trying to find his voice. ‘I think— Jaemin… Jaemin-ah,’ but he can’t. He can’t, his head falls miserably, he tucks his chin into his chest and clenches his eyes shut; don’t cry, don’t cry. Please, don’t cry.
Jaemin’s there, squeezing both of his knees now. Injunnie, my Injunnie. And immediately, the tears are flowing from behind his eyes, his shoulders beginning to shake and his nose starting to sniffle - this is beyond fixable.
Maybe if he wasn’t feeling so tired, Renjun could have fought them off a little while longer. Oh well, it’s no use now.
I think I… Jaemin, I think I‘ve been falling— Jaemin, I’ve been falling in love with you…
And just like that, it’s out there, in the open. Dangling between them. Renjun feels Jaemin’s hands tense up from where they sit on his knees, and if the kitchen had been silent before, well… It's dead silent now, Renjun’s sobs fizzling down now to quiet hiccups, there’s a soft buzzing coming from the refrigerator but that’s all. If Renjun listens close enough, he is sure he would be able to hear his pounding heartbeat.
He’s almost positive that Jaemin is going to shoot up out of his seat, be it in anger, shock, or even betrayal. Renjun would understand, he gets it. Who in their right mind would want their group member to not only fall in love with them but blurt it out in the open like that for everyone to hear?
Jaemin doesn’t move though, he stays glued to his chair, and Renjun is almost sure he spots a dust of pink on his cheeks, but he’s not sure, it’s probably sunburn.
Jaemin clears his throat, pulling his hands away to scratch at the back of his neck. Renjun notices his eyes shifting from one corner of the room to the other. Hold on… Renjun narrows his eyes a little, is Jaemin shy? Now, this is new.
‘Jaemin…’ Renjun starts, not sure where to go from here, he was expecting a lot worse.
‘How long?’ asks Jaemin.
How long.
‘I don’t know…’ Renjun says and it’s the truth.
He’s been over this in his head countless times, but he still doesn’t know. Has it always been Jaemin? Has he never been in love because he was already in the process of falling? He initially assumed it started due to the look of pure joy on Jaemin’s face that night in the hotel hallway, but maybe Renjun had been looking in all the wrong places.
Jaemin nods, finally standing up. Renjun follows, the legs of his chair screeching on the tiles.
Jaemin keeps nodding to himself, even starts to pace back and forth a little, ‘you don’t know…’ he mumbles to himself, you don’t know, you don’t know. He walks to the humming fridge and turns around, walks to Renjun and turns around, muttering to himself with his hands in his hair.
Renjun isn’t sure how long this goes on for, realistically it’s probably only been a few minutes, eventually, Jaemin turns to him one last time and stops.
‘You like— No wait, hold on, you’re falling in love with me?’ Jaemin asks, Renjun nods. ‘Injunnie…’
Truthfully, Renjun was ready for this. Way back in LA, after he shut his bedroom door on Jeno and Jaemin, and climbed into the shower; he knew none of this would end well.
‘I’m sorry,’ Renjun says again, for the second time that night. He feels like crying again, ‘I-I really didn't mean to.’
I didn’t mean to fall in love with you.
All of a sudden arms are wrapping around him, trapping his arms down by his side. There’s a smell of chocolate and fresh laundry surrounding him, it travels up his nose and makes him feel lightheaded. Jaemin’s arms are wrapped tight, and his lips are so close that he could easily press them against Renjun’s forehead if he wanted to. Renjun almost wishes he would.
Injunnie-hyung, Jaemin is speaking again and Renjun is trying his hardest to listen - he really, truly is, but there’s a ringing in his ears and he’s being squeezed so tight that he has to focus on his breathing.
Injunnie. Injunnie-hyung.
Jaemin’s arms loosen up a bit, and Renjun finally gathers the courage to look at him. Jaemin, who looks so… Happy? Renjun startles, trying to take a step back but the arms wrapped around him put a quick stop to that. Hold on… He tries to blink away his disbelief, Jaemin is happy?
‘Are you listening to me?’ Jaemin asks, his lips splitting open into a wide smile.
Renjun nods, perplexed.
‘I wish you’d stop saying sorry,’ Jaemin shakes his head, making a tsk-ing sound with his tongue.
Renjun wills himself not to say sorry again. Finally, he pulls his arms out of Jaemin’s embrace and tries to take a step back, feeling slightly confused. But Jaemin only pulls him back in, flush against his chest, arms wrapped around Renjun’s waist this time.
‘Why’re you trying to run away, Injunnie?’ Jaemin pouts, woah, your waist is so tiny… Renjun wants to smack him, so he does, but Jaemin only throws his head back and laughs in response. ‘Ow. So painful.’
Renjun frowns, this is definitely not what he thought was going to happen.
‘So…’ Jaemin starts again, dropping his arms and stepping back a little to give Renjun space. He has a happy smile on his face when he says: ‘you love me, huh?’
Renjun feels his cheeks warm and his palms start to feel sticky. How did Jaemin go from pacing around the kitchen to this?
‘I never— I didn’t say that! I said—‘
‘You’re falling in love with me. Sorry, sorry.’ Jaemin’s hands go up in surrender.
Renjun watches as he walks over to the light switch, flicking it off and walking out of the kitchen. Follow me, he says, walking down the hallway. Renjun stands there in the darkness for a few seconds, in complete shock. Is this what’s supposed to happen after you confess to someone? When he feels a slight chill run down his spine, he’s quick to rush out of the pitch black room to follow after Jaemin who stands outside his bedroom door, holding it open for Renjun; come in, he whispers, waggling his eyebrows and Renjun does his best not to smack him again for being so creepy.
When Renjun enters Jaemin’s room he immediately sees the Snowball plushie sitting on his bed, for some reason it makes Renjun want to cry again.
‘We were going to sleep, but then I heard you bouncing around in your room, so I went to check and now, well… Here we are.’ Jaemin explains, walking over to his bed and sitting down, he pats the space beside him for Renjun.
We were going to sleep. We.
Renjun sits down, feeling a little awkward.
‘You were going to sleep with the…’ He trails off, eyeing the fluffy toy.
‘It’s better than sleeping alone,’ Jaemin shrugs.
Renjun nods. Sure. He gets that. Now what?
He looks around Jaemin’s room, taking note of the opened suitcase on the floor, sweets brought home from their LA trip taking up more space than clothes. Then his eyes fall to a picture stuck to Jaemin’s mirror with pink sticky tape, it’s a polaroid of all seven of them. When his heart begins to feel heavy, he looks away.
Jaemin is still sitting beside him, his shoulder pressing up against him.
‘Are we okay?’ Renjun asks, suddenly feeling incredibly small. When he looks at Jaemin, he sees the toy sitting on the pillow behind him and he feels somewhat resentful - it’s all that stupid thing's fault anyways, if Renjun hadn’t seen it and felt like he needed to buy it, then he would have never discovered these feeling, and neither of them would be in this situation.
‘Why wouldn’t we be?’ asks Jaemin.
‘Because I…’
‘Think you love me…’
Renjun nods, yes.
Jaemin shifts around a little, he pulls his feet up and crosses his legs, looking at Renjun properly now.
‘Injunnie,’ says Jaemin, ‘my sweet, sweet Renjunnie. Haven’t you realised yet?’
Renjun turns around to face him, shaking his head, he truly has zero clue as to what’s going on.
Jaemin is practically glowing when he takes hold of Renjun’s hands, ‘remember when we first met and I stole your expensive crayons?’
Renjun nods. Oh, he remembers. Of course he does, how could he forget?
Jaemin nods, continuing, ‘and you hunted me down, backed me into a corner when you found me and held out your little hands demanding them back.’
Renjun hadn’t been able to speak confidently back then, not trusting his Korean enough. When he found Jaemin under a random staircase, knees to his chest, sipping on a Cola can, crayons under his legs, Renjun had stomped right over to him; hovered over Jaemin’s body and stared at him until Jaemin got the picture.
‘You were so scary, Injunnie.’ Jaemin teases, his right hand coming up to pinch at Renjun’s cheeks.
Renjun swats him away, ‘I’m really not following.’
What Renjun isn’t expecting Jaemin to say is: ‘I’ve liked you since that exact day.’
Wait… What?
Renjun’s body freezes, then unfreezes. It runs cold, then heats up all over again. What did Jaemin just say?
I’ve liked you since that exact day. I’ve liked you since that exact day. I’ve liked you since— Renjun feels dizzy, whether it’s from the words or Jaemin’s extensive perfume collection, he isn’t 100% positive - but he’s betting it’s the former.
‘Say something…’ Jaemin whispers, poking Renjun’s shoulder with impatience.
‘I’m thinking,’ Renjun says, feeling his eyes unfocus and Jaemin’s body go blurry.
‘Think faster.’
‘It can’t be this simple,’ Renjun shakes his head, finding everything hard to process.
Jaemin only shrugs, it is though. But Renjun still can’t seem to wrap his head around it all. Jaemin likes him? It doesn’t make sense. He thought he…
‘I thought you liked Jeno!’
At this, Jaemin’s head shoots back in laughter. Jeno?! You thought I liked Jeno-hyung?! Jaemin’s laughing so loud, his cheeks must be hurting. He’s so annoying, Renjun kind of wants to murder him. It’s not that much of a ridiculous thought, those two are practically joined at the hip, always sharing rooms and finishing each other's sentences. Renjun says as much.
‘Aw,’ Jaemin pouts playfully, puckering his lips into a kissy face. ‘Was my Injunnie-hyung jealous?’
He was a little, but Renjun won’t ever admit that. Not in a million years. Jaemin’s grinning now, as if he can see right through Renjun.
‘Oh, this is amazing,’ Jaemin is up and sitting on his knees now, bouncing and brimming with excitement. ‘I can't wait to tell Jeno this— Me like him? You must be crazy, Renjunnie.’
It’s not that crazy of a thought, Renjun frowns. He wants to put up more of a fight, but then Jaemin is saying come here and scooting backwards on the bed to sit up against his headboard, he opens his arms and Renjun follows, a little shy as he sits down beside Jaemin. Jaemin, who wraps his arm around his waist and pulls him in against his side. This isn’t anything new, they’ve sat like this plenty of times before, though now that there are all these newfound feelings involved it all feels sort of weird and nerve-wracking - especially when Jaemin’s legs tangle with his, if he keeps acting like this Renjun is going to drown in his sweat.
‘You’re so rigid,’ Jaemin huffs, ‘it’s just me.’
Yeah, but—
‘Renjunnie-hyung, if I kiss you will that calm you down?’ Jaemin asks with zero shame, and what the fuck.
Renjun has to duck his head down against Jaemin’s chest to hide the red flush spreading out over his cheeks. Shut the hell up, he grumbles.
🐰
It takes four days for them (Renjun) to loosen up, somewhere after the sixth time he finally stops jumping like a cat every time Jaemin wraps his arms around him.
It takes a week for Renjun to stop avoiding and finally look Jeno in the eyes again after Jaemin tells him what Renjun’s initial thought process had been: It’s safe to say that Jeno is absolutely appalled and a little mortified, whining like a dog - hyung, what the…? Ew.
Eventually, they do kiss, when Jaemin presses Renjun down into his bedsheets to quieten his huffy complaints — ‘you can’t just slap my ass every time I bend over, Jaemin. Seriously, animals are better behaved.’ — with his mouth. Jaemin’s a good kisser, Renjun decides. He tastes like Cola flavoured lollies and he likes to lick over the front of Renjun’s teeth and sure, it’s a little weird but that’s just Jaemin, through and through.
Renjun doesn’t think he could love him any other way. Truly.

Renjun was sure he had never been in love. It wasn’t until he began looking in the right places, that he discovered love was always there, right in front of his eyes, ready to take hold of him as soon as he gave himself the chance to dive properly into it.
