Summary
It’s become almost routine now, feeling eyes on her out here. Jo is used to being looked at differently. Used to boys unable to categorize her and staring instead of asking. She remembers the way her grandma used to size her up, with a resignation that she could never get Jo to be like her. Occasionally, she’d feel eyes from a girl, curiosity bordering on something more, something wanting.
It’s become far less occasional. There are girls on the other teams, teenagers who ask for her autograph, wives who blush when Jo winks at them in the stands.
