Not many people knew of MK’s thoughts due to him keeping them to himself half the time, he knew he could go to tell the others, yet he still felt as though he couldn’t tell them because he didn’t want to bother them. He didn’t want to stress them out even if they told him, it was okay for him to tell them what was wrong. The thought of being a burden scared him, he didn’t want to be abandoned again. Yet there was one person he could talk to, Lloyd Garmadon. When they first met during their journey to defeat the Lady Bone Demon, they instantly felt a connection. Like they had been best friends their entire life and just instantly clicked to the point it was rare to see them without each other in public.
“Another day?” Lloyd asked as he lay in bed next to MK who was mindlessly messing with the ribbons on his plush but nodded, Lloyd frowned as he looked over at MK who seemed tired and drained despite him not getting up to do anything that day, “Do you wanna talk about it?” Lloyd asked reaching out and wrapping an arm around MK’s shoulders pulling his friend close, so his head was laying on his shoulder, “I had another dream last night...” MK said making Lloyd raise an eyebrow. “Was it about the Lady Bone Demon?” Lloyd asked his voice laced with concern and felt MK shake his head no, “It was something else.” MK mumbled his voice almost a whisper which made Lloyd worried, “What, was it?” Lloyd asked bringing his hand up to MK’s fur and beginning to gently comb it with his fingers.
“I dreamt that I was you but… I didn’t exist.” MK said surprising his friend, “You, didn’t exist in the dream?” He asked as MK nodded, “When I asked around, they all looked confused and asked me, ‘Who’s MK?’” MK mumbled as Lloyd stopped combing his fur. “It made me wonder if I was meant to exist… If, I was supposed to defeat the Lady Bone Demon with all of you. Or if I was even meant to be Monkey King and Macaque’s apprentice.” MK mumbled his voice choking up slightly as tears pricked at the corner of his eyes. “MK…” Lloyd began before sighing and turning onto his side and making MK look at him.
“I may not be an expert on dreams but what I do know is that you came into the world like everyone else for a reason. What you make out of yourself is what you choose. You chose to grab Monkey King’s staff, it may have been unintentional, but it still happened. You didn’t have to become the hero that you are, you really didn’t. Yet you chose to. After all that you have gone through, it’s normal to have doubts. You are not alone MK. I’ve been there myself after everything that’s happened in the past for me. And as much as I wish none of that happened, I remind myself that if none of that had happened, I wouldn’t have met any of you.” Lloyd said offering a gentle smile.
MK lay there staring at Lloyd for a few seconds before he smiled as fresh tears welled up in his eyes and hugged Lloyd who hugged back semi-tightly letting him cry into his shoulder, “Thank you, Lloyd… I don’t know where I would be without all of you.” MK choked out his voice muffled due to his face being buried in Lloyd’s shoulder. “It’s no problem MK… Just remember that we’ll all be there for you.” Lloyd said gently as MK nodded hugging his friend tighter allowing his tails to slip underneath him and wrap around Lloyd’s. They both laid there for a while before falling asleep holding each other close with Lloyd hugging MK close and MK’s head laying on Lloyd’s shoulder.
