Work Text:

Kei was early.

After an excruciating phone call with Hinata last Thursday, he’d somehow ended up the unwilling participant of a blind date. Although based on the giggling in the background of their call he wouldn’t be surprised to find out his date was aware. This meant it must be one of the jackals.

Bokuto was a no-go. They’d tried dating Kei’s first year in college, but found they worked better as friends. Bo said Kei was too nagging and Kei liked a bit more structure in a relationship. The sex was good though. Very good actually, but that could just be inexperienced fresh out of high school Kei talking. Anyway, they still text regularly and Bokuto would have spilled the beans by now.

Sakusa was prickly. More so than Kei on his worst days. Aesthetically, he was attractive, but Kei suspects they’d either end up in complete silence on their date or pissing each other off on purpose. There is no In between.

Meian? Married - Kei isn’t a home wrecker.

Inunaki? Never trust a libero.

Miya Atsumu? Nope. Out of his league. And if anyone asked him if he had an embarrassing crush on the setter he’d deny it. On both of the Miya twins to be honest with himself. And it’s not just a fetishized twin thing - although he’s not opposed to finding himself between them. Atsumu’s thighs could crush his skull and Kei would die a happy man. Osamu’s hands though. God! He wants to know what else he can do with those. And he can cook! The whole package!

But it’s not just physical attributes that drew kei to the twins. Atsumu was hard working and the type of person that made Kei want to strive for higher goals. Those damn monster volleyball players and their passion. Kei would never admit to reading interviews with the setter during finals week to get some extra motivation. That was just downright stalker level. At least he didn’t hang up pictures-Yamaguchi would have never let him live that one down.

He had less interaction with Osamu and not by choice. Every once and a while he’d stop by Osamu’s booth at one of the division 1 games and they’d get a chance to talk. The man was smart and so ambitious. Really, who would think he’d own his own restaurant at his age?!

Put them together and they’re hilarious! Bickering, of course, but it’s obvious how much they care for each other. He sighed and rested his chin in his hand. Hinata isn’t aware enough to set him up with an attractive Miya twin.

His phone buzzed in his pocket and he pulled it out to check his messages.

Akaashi: Did your date show up?

Kei shook his head and typed back a response. Akaashi had weaseled his weekend plans out of him earlier in the week when they met up for drinks and documentaries. He had a tendency to tease Kei for his lack of love life despite the fact that Kei found it hard enough to find time to date between two jobs. Honestly, Kei was surprised Akaashi hadn’t tried to set him up on a blind date yet. The man wasn’t trustworthy, but the fact that Hinata put this together made him wonder if he was going to be stood up.

Akaashi: I’m sure they’ll show up soon~ Don’t scare them away

Kei rolled his eyes and left his friend on read. Akaashi is just fishing for details. Maniac.

The door to the restaurant opened and he looked up. Oh, wow. Speak of the devil. Miya Osamu in the flesh.

God, he cleaned up nicely. Loose jeans and a tight tight tight t-shirt under a black weathered leather jacket. Kei picked up his glass of water and took a big drink. He was assuming. Miya Osamu could just be at the same restaurant as he was. It doesn’t mean he was his date today.

Kei turned away as Osamu asked the hostess a question and picked up his menu, reading through the appetizers for the umpteenth time. He didn’t have any plans to order an appetizer, but it at least made him look busy. Someone cleared their throat in front of him and he looked up from the menu. He’d deny the shocked expression on his face later if anyone asked.

“Is this seat taken?” Miya Osamu said dreamily.

“Uhm, for my date, yeah,” Kei replied and set the menu down. “You wouldn’t happen to know him, would you?”

Osamu’s lips turned upwards into a small smirk. “Well, I was told there’d be an attractive blond waiting for me in the corner.” He gestured at the half full restaurant. “Looks like you’re the only one I see.”

Kei propped his elbow on the table and rested his chin in his hand. “You didn’t look very long.”

“Didn’t have to,” Osamu responded and pulled out the chair opposite Kei so he could sit down.

Kei chuckled lightly and picked up his glass of water to take a drink while Osamu perused the menu. Osamu bit his bottom lip and flipped the menu over a few times as though he was deciding between a few different options. It was cute.

“So how did Hinata convince you to do this?” Kei asked. “I know he’s close to your brother, but I didn’t realize you knew him well.”

“Hinata?” Osamu looked up and furrowed his eyebrows. “He didn’t—”

“Huh?! What the heck is this?” A voice interrupted them.

Both men looked up and found Miya Atsumu standing at the side of their table. His eyes full of confusion and mouth comically wide as he looked between them. He was wearing a pair of slacks and a button up dress shirt that had what appeared to be little dinosaurs on it. Cute.

“It’s a date, obviously,” Osamu replied. “What are you doing here? I thought you said you were busy today.”

“I’m here for…why are you on a date with MY date?!” Atsumu asked.

“Your date?!”

“Yes, my date! The one Hinata set up for me!”

“Hah?” Osamu glanced between Atsumu and Kei. “But Keiji told me Tsukishima wanted to meet me.”

Ah. Akaashi. That crafty bastard.

He let the twins bicker for a little while over who was in the right. Maybe a little too long since the hostess kept shooting them concerning looks, but Kei couldn’t help himself. It was sort of hilarious that they were fighting over who got to date him. A bit too much of a stroke to his ego.

“Well, you’re both here,” Kei interrupted them when he found an opening. “It’d be a shame to ruin a nice date, right?”

They stared at him for a moment before looking at each other. Must be some weird twin telepathy or something, but after a moment of silent communication, Atsumu pulled up a chair and Osamu shifted his own further over to make room for his twin.

Kei watched them suspiciously. From everything he’d seen in regard to Miya twin antics - sitting quietly at a table together on a miscommunicated date was not in their usual repertoire. Honestly, he’d expected them to bail on the date once they realized they’d both been set up.

It was ridiculous and entirely Akaashi’s fault. He really needed to learn to stop letting the man ask too many vague questions until he got the answer he wanted. But it’s sort of nice knowing his friends (loosely named, of course) had an inkling for what kind of person he was attracted to. Apparently it was Miya, but hey! He’s not complaining. He might as well make the most of the date.

They ordered their entrees and sat awkwardly at the table for a few moments. Kei was never one to start a conversation and it seemed the other two men weren’t too keen on overstepping boundaries. Boundaries that they’d probably telepathically communicated with each other at the start to not mess this up or something. That might be Kei feeling a little too smug about getting to date both twins, though.

“So what brings you two to Sendai?” he asks, finally growing tired of the silence.

“Our date,” Atsumu stares at him incredulously.

“No shit,” Osamu says before turning back to Kei, a small and complacent smile on his face. “I’m here to look at a few new potential restaurant locations.”

Kei nodded as he listened. He’d heard Osamu was interested in setting up a new shop in the area. It would be sort of nice to be able to see him more and enjoy his cooking - and potentially other things if this date goes well. But the issue is they’re both here. And Atsumu is now pouting - his jutted out lower lip looks plump and kissable. Damn they’re gorgeous.

“I hope that goes well,” he responds finally. “There’s a lot of nice places available around the museum.”

“Oh! You work there, right? Shoyou was telling me,” Atsumu butted in before Osamu could respond. “I think it’s impressive how you’re able to play volleyball and keep up another job, you know?”

Wow, Hinata talks about him more than he expected.

“Uh, yeah.”

Their waitress arrived with their food and conversation was halted as she set down their plates. After thanking her, Kei picked up his chopsticks and scooped up a bite of rice and vegetables. It was a nice, simple restaurant. He’d ordered the curry and was pleased to find out it tasted pretty good. Despite the weird atmosphere of the date, he could at least be grateful for a nice meal. It seemed the other two were pleased as well.

“So you’re here for the night then?” Kei asked after they’d gotten through half their meals.

Atsumu nodded, finished chewing, and swallowed before speaking. Damn - and here he thought the man had no manners in high school. “Gotta get back for practice next week. Big games coming up.” He grinned. “You know, I could get you some free tickets if you’re free.”

“Hmmm,” Kei teased. “I guess I could find some time in my schedule to attend a few games this season.”

Osamu rolled his eyes. “Always volleyball with this one.”

“And always food with you,” Atsumu retorted and stuck out his tongue. He picked up a bite from his plate and brought it to his mouth. At the last second, the chunks of meat and rice fell from his spoon and onto his chest. The food rolled down his shirt and settled in his lap leaving a trail of sauce in its wake.

“Ah,” Osamu raised his eyebrows mockingly. “What were you saying?”

Kei held back a laugh as Atsumu’s face turned from irritated to mortifyingly embarrassed nearly instantly. His cheeks turned red and progressively darkened the longer he looked between his brother and date. Finally, his gaze settled on his blemished shirt. He picked up a napkin and tried to dab at the sauce, but the motion caused the sticky liquid to further embed into the fabric. He groaned and tossed the napkin on the table before turning towards Kei.

“I’ll be right back,” he said before pushing his chair away from the table and standing up frustratingly. He stalked towards the bathroom at the back of the restaurant leaving Kei and Osamu in silence.

Kei glanced towards the quiet twin, gauging his reaction to the mishap only to find the man had scooted his chair closer while his brother ran off to deal with his stain. “Uh, hi.”

“Hey,” Osamu’s lips tilted upwards into a small, but smug smile. “Fancy seeing you on this side of the table.”

Kei snorted. “Not a very smooth pick up line.”

“It worked well enough if you realized its intentions,” Osamu reached over and plucked a bite of curry from Kei’s plate. He chewed thoughtfully before swallowing. “I’d hoped to enjoy our evening together alone.”

Kei picked up his own chopsticks and chose a portion of his food from the same area Osamu had eaten. He kept eye contact with the attractive man as he brought it to his mouth and wrapped his lips around the sticks as he placed the bite into his mouth. Osamu’s eyes strayed to his lips, his tongue poking out to lick his own.

“Atsumu may be leaving tomorrow, but I’ll be here the rest of the week,” he said. “Maybe we could plan a second date.”

“How presumptuous of you,” Kei teased, his mouth set in a smirk. “We haven’t even finished this date and you’re already assuming I’d like a second.”

“You haven’t said no,” Osamu leaned closer, his arm wrapped around the back of Kei’s chair and his hip bumped against Kei’s.

Kei pursed his lips and held back a grin. “What did you have in mind?”

“Well,” Osamu started. “I was thinking—”

“Oi!” Atsumu’s voice broke through the thick tension between them and both men turned towards the blond. His shirt showcased a few wet spots from where he’d scrubbed at the sauce and it looked as if he’d managed to get most of it out. The fabric would likely be saved from too obvious of a stain.

“Ah, he’s back,” Osamu removed his arm from Kei’s chair and scooted his seat back over to his meal.

“Yeah, hands off,” Atsumu sat back down. “We’re both on this date, you know.”

Kei took a sip from his water glass and watched the man while he finished eating his meal. Jealous, huh? He should have expected that. Setters had a tendency to take, take, and take.

“Then what do you suggest once we’ve finished?” Kei asked and nodded towards their quickly emptying plates.

“We’ll take a nice walk,” Atsumu said. “The park nearby looked like it had plenty of lighting and we should be able to watch the sunset.”

Osamu chuckled to himself, teasing his brother with a pointed look. “Always the romantic.”

“At least I’m not trying to get to second base on the first date.”

Osamu shrugged. “If he’s willing.”

God they were shameless.

The waitress returned with their bill and Atsumu was the first to grab it. Pro-athlete reflexes, he’d explained, but it was pretty obvious he’d told the waitress to pass it to him.

“I’ll even cover your share of food this time, ‘Samu,” Atsumu pressed his hand against his chest regally.

“Oh yeah?” Osamu rested his chin in his hand lazily. “After all the free food I give you, it’s about time you paid for something.”

“Thank you for the meal,” Kei said to Atsumu, enjoying the pout that fell across Osamu’s face.

“Any time, babe!” Atsumu grinned and handed the check and a stack of bills to the waitress. Once she returned with his change, they stood up from the table and headed outside.

The air was cool, but pleasant and the air smelled of rain soon to come. Kei didn’t pay much attention to the weather report most days which resulted often in soaked coats as he carried them over his head after his shifts at the museum or practice. But the smell of rain felt like a warning and the thundering pounds of his heart thumping in his chest were like a storm brewing.

The promise of a second date with Osamu was exhilarating and Kei knew he’d take him up on the offer. If anything, the man knew where he worked and Kei didn’t put it past him showing up out of the blue. He was definitely a very forward individual and Kei liked that in a man.

But the setting sun surrounded Atsumu with warmth and his smile as he pointed out the most mundane decorations of the park radiated with such joy that Kei felt his heart squeeze in his chest. He followed behind them as they walked. The sun cast warm orange and pink hues through the sky and left pleasant feelings in its descent.

They stumbled upon an ice cream stand near one of the park’s entrances. The sun was low on the horizon and the street lamps had been turned on leaving a soft glow around the park. Osamu stopped next to the stand and turned towards Kei.

“You interested?”

Kei glanced at the menu on the side and bit his lip. Ice cream would be a nice end to his night, even if he was supposed to keep his sugar intake low. And they did have some good looking flavors - if the bright pink and red extra strawberry was anything to go by.

“Sure,” he said. “One scoop of the strawberry.”

Osamu grinned and pulled his wallet from his pocket before moving to the register.

“I didn’t want any anyway!” Atsumu cupped his hands around his mouth and jeered. He turned towards Kei and gestured to a bench some 50 feet away.

The two walked towards the bench and sat next to each other. Atsumu stretched his arms over his head and not so smoothly placed one behind Kei. He tilted his head to the side and looked up at Kei - his eyes sparkled in the light of the street lamp.

“I was serious about the tickets,” he said. “It would be nice to see you more often.”

“Oh? And why do I have to travel all the time?” Kei teased.

Atsumu laughed. “Send me both schedules and I’ll make time, baby.”

Kei shook his head and smiled. “I’ll need your number first.”

He pulled his phone out of his pocket and laughed as Atsumu literally vibrated with excitement next to him. Once the phone was in his hand his thumbs flew across the screen to add his contact info. Just as he handed it back, Osamu stood in front of them with two small bowls of ice cream. Kei reached out to take his and portioned a piece of the cold treat off with his spoon, taking a bite. It was delicious.

“Breakfast tomorrow?” Osamu asked and leaned against the bench as he ate his treat.

Atsumu, despite still looking thrilled to have given Kei his contact info, pouted. “I’ve got to head out early.”

Osamu mumbled something about ‘not asking him.’

Kei took another bite of his ice cream. “Then I suppose I’ll just have to see Atsumu off before heading your way.”

“You gonna two time us, huh?” Atsumu leaned closer.

“Well, neither of you have made a convincing argument yet,” Kei shrugged, feigning nonchalance. Internally, his heart was beating faster than a bat out of hell.

Atsumu barked out a laugh and reached up to run his fingers through Kei’s hair. “Guess we’ll have to keep working on it then.”

Osamu scoffed. “Not much competition.”

Kei finished his ice cream and turned between the two. “Unless you’re both interested, of course.”

They stared at him with the same wide eyed, confused expression on their faces. Yeah, okay so maybe he does have a thing for twins.

“You’re asking us both out?” Osamu put two and two together first.

Kei shrugged and stood up so he could walk his empty cup to the trash can next to the stand. It was a gamble, sure, but he hadn’t expected either of them to show up as his blind date today anyway. By the time he returned they had appeared to come to some sort of agreement - surprisingly fast.

“So,” he started, his hands coming together in front of himself as he pulled at his fingers hesitantly.

“We accept your suggestion,” Atsumu said. “Of dating both of us.”

Osamu nodded in agreement. “But it would be nice to try and keep the time evenly spent.”

Kei felt his eyes widen and his face heat up. His heart beat with excitement. “I’m not against double dates like this either.”

The twins looked at each other. Atsumu stood up and Osamu took long strides to throw away his trash. Once he returned they each grabbed one of his hands and led him outside of the park. They walked in a comfortable silence back to the restaurant where they’d parked, stopping in front of Kei’s car.

“I’ll see you first thing,” Atsumu said. Kei turned towards him and he pressed a kiss to his lips. “Text me and I’ll send you my hotel details.”

“Sure…”

“Kei,” Osamu said and he turned his head the other way to look at the other man. Osamu touched the side of Kei’s face and kissed him as well. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“And we’ll plan the next double date!” Atsumu said as he headed towards his rental car. “Group text!”

Osamu waved him off and stole another kiss from Kei, ignoring his brother’s indignant shrieks. “Have a good night.”

Kei nodded and watched them both walk away. Shoot, he should say something.

“Uh, thanks for a nice date!” he called after them. Oh, god, that was eloquent.

Atsumu laughed and Osamu smiled.

Yeah, Kei could get used to this.
