A Path That May Lead To Somewhere

Summary:

There's a reason as to why Dawner insists on relying on a stick for directions.

Notes:

I only have a few manga extras and like 2 chapters to make this story, welp.

Work Text:

Dawner sat down on a fallen tree branch. Smilingly he said, “let’s just walk until we find your home!”

In contrast, Mao shook his head. “That will get us nowhere. Instead, let’s try this.”

Dawner saw a stick in his hand and tilted his head. “What should we do with that?”

Sitting down next to him, he answered, “if we throw it in the ground, it’ll follow the wind’s currents and change the course of its landing.”

Dawner beamed at the idea. “Oh, great idea. Let’s follow it then!”

Grabbing his hand, Mao followed him with a stick in hand.

Kisho sighed heavily for what seemed to be hundredth time. Glaring at the Hero before him, he insisted, “a map will lead us better than a stick. What’s the point of that useless piece–”

“It’s not useless,” Dawner refuted. Despite his obnoxious sunny personality he always displayed, the tone of his voice seemed serious for some reason.

As if he acted too differently, the Hero was back to being a bubbly idiot before continuing, “if we throw it in the ground, it’ll follow the wind’s currents and change the course of its landing!”

Honestly, he couldn’t understand this man’s logic.

Dawner sat on a fallen tree branch, his gaze set on the stick in his grasp. With the others having long since drifted off to slumber, he was on his own.

“With this, I’ll find you eventually after my mission of rescuing the Princess,” he muttered to himself, seemingly confident before breaking into something, “…right, Mao?”

But the stick could not answer him for it was merely an inanimate object.

But even if that was the case, Dawner tightened his grip on it and never letting go as he, too, fell asleep.

Always dreaming of his happy days with Mao.
