Summary
Rhaegar Targaryen ascends the throne after the deaths of his father and sister-wife. While he has four strong brothers and a young daughter, his throne is far from stable. Lords clamor to marry his brothers to their daughters, and many have set their eyes on Rhaegar himself. To the west, the kraken chafes against its bonds to throne and mainland and to the east, rumors spread of a rising Blackfyre threat . . . all while Rhaegar wonders at the Song of Ice and Fire he discovered as a youth in the ruins of his family's home, and the need for three heads of the dragon to come forth to confront an ancient threat.
But until his own throne is secure and his heir is born, Rhaegar cannot confront the greater threats the plague his realm. A gathering of dragons makes a rumbling, reverberating thunder, the prelude to the lightning and storms ahead . . .
A re-imagining of Westeros where Rhaella’s children survive birth and Aerys dies a Duskendale. Some of the dates are moved, to account for all these events, and some women are alive because I want them to be.

Character 1 Rhaegar’s gaze turns to Viserys, so small as he presses himself into their mother’s black skirts. He thought the youngest prince would be her last child, that Aerys would be content with five princes and a princess. But Aerys wanted five sister-wives for his five sons, and the flickers of fire at another execution had engorged his loathsome lust and injured and impregnated his poor wife.

Daeron scoffs and rolls his eyes. “She is dead because of you. Our sister,” he adds, as if he thinks Rhaegar does not know who Daeron means, does know know that he killed Shaena. “She was too young, but you put a babe in her belly.”
“I did not mean too.”
“It does not matter what you meant, only what you did. You killed sweet Shaena with your cock and will likely kill another girl too, to get yourself a true heir, a boy prince to rule after you. Someone better than your foolish little brother.” Daeron suddenly rises, his chair screeching on the tiles as he does. A new sort of emotion twists his face as he strides towards Rhaegar.
