The histories are always written by their victors. They speak of glorious battles, mighty warriors and new beginnings, but they never talk of those who were left to stand by themselves, weep for their losses and mourn their dead. The defeated are cast to live with their sorrows in the past, to dwell upon their mistakes and cry in the secret of others.
She never had that privilege. When she knew she had lost, no one told her to begone or to run away, where no one would remember who she was or recognize her name.
Instead, she would stay. She would live, love, and force herself to make the sadness disappear entirely, to burn away with her House and her family, her childhood and her memories. But when you can burn these away, it does not mean they would remain ash forever. Some rise again and grow stronger, showing her the path she had long forgotten.
