Work Text:
Morgan checked their list one more time as they walked down the hall. They’d been stuck on catalog duty, making sure to interview all the magical girls who ended up here at Founder’s Gift Hospital before they were released to so the CDD would have a full list of injured girls to reference and replace. They were finally at the last one on the list, room 4033. At least they got good cardio running around this place.
A knock on the door and a “Come in!” later and Morgan stepped inside. Like every hospital room, this one was pretty spartan, just the bed, a few chairs, a television, and the magical girl in question, a light bluish green-haired girl dressed in a spotted patient gown with a bandage wrapping around her head, right along a braid that ran across the top, and covering her right eye.
She smiled brightly as Morgan looked down at their list and brushed a strand of black hair out of their face. “I like your hair. Looks nice.”
Morgan looked up briefly. “Thanks. My name is Agent Jericho with the CDD, I’m here to ask you a few questions about your injury.” The girl nodded, and Morgan continued. “Name?”
“Lemon Ayd. Friends call me Lem.”
Morgan looked up at the smiling girl. Poor kid.
“And your title?”
“Magical Girl Magic Lemon.” Morgan looked up again and Lem smiled. “Yeah, it’s not the most creative, but it is descriptive.”
“And what’s the details of your injury?”
“Lost an eye. I haven’t fully decided whether I’m gonna do a glass eye thing or an eyepatch, not sure which will fit better with my aesthetic. What do you think?”
Morgan looked back down to their paperwork. “How’d it happen?”
Lem scratched the back of her head. “Well, my powers are, uh, I get a magical hat and wand that can make fruit weapons? Tend to mostly be citrus. Anyways, um, I was fighting a monster, and it was going pretty well so I went for my finisher! I pulled a bunch of lemon bombs out of my hat and bam, threw them right at it. But the monster, uh, knocked one back at me. I was able to cover most of myself but some of the juice got in my eye and, uh, I didn’t really have anything to clean it out with. Came to the hospital as soon as I could, but it was too late.”
Morgan looked up. “So, you sprayed yourself in the eye with fruit juice.”
Lem crossed her arms. “I didn’t mean to. And it’s not _fruit juice_, it’s _acid_, and it hurts.”
“Sorry.”
“S’okay.”
“Will you be patrolling again?”
Lem smiled. “Of course! I can’t stop now. Plus, gotta get my revenge.”
Morgan nodded. She’d expected this, of course.
“Thanks for your time.”
Lem smiled. “Thanks for your hard work!”
Morgan got up as Lem waved, still smiling. It struck them how no matter what injuries they suffered, these girls were still willing to go out and fight. They hoped Lem, at least, wouldn’t do anything stupid.
