Work Text:
Loid Forger.
A psychiatrist with a few years of experience under his belt, loved by all his colleagues and patients alike. Supposedly adored by females for his charming appearance (they all probably needed corrective eye surgeries) and even males for being so respectable (was he really?) and approachable. He was excused by every single person for being late for a meeting, encouraged and sent regards when he was stuck in the washroom with laxative-induced stomachaches, fawned over even when he had toilet paper tailing after him unglamorously.
How did he get away with everything?
Gerald Gorey was himself a highly respectable man, the Chief Medical Director in fact. He had so strategically planned his progression in Berlint Hospital, making sure to build amicable connections with everyone of a certain status to enforce his own reputation. His patients sang high praise for him, and he had been in such an honourable position with so many doctors under his command after all. He was influential, a man to be admired.
So why was he called a lazy fat cat behind his back when he was late for a meeting?
Why did beautiful Fiona, the girl he had his eyes on, not pay any attention to him?
Why did everyone else in the hospital not fawn over him or laugh in a good mannered way when he made silly mistakes?
What was it that Loid Forger had which he didn’t?
Gerald would not give everything to Loid Forger. That included VIP patients, of course. At least that was very much within his control. Who knows? Loid Forger might scare all their patients away! He was already handling so many on his own, surely he would be overworked and neglect the patients, and unhappy patients would reflect badly on Berlint Hospital.
Yes. That was why he was better than Loid Forger. He was always thinking two steps ahead.
Gerald paced down the corridor of the hospital. It was relatively packed on this particular weekend for some reason, and many doctors had to be called back to cope with the influx of patients, Loid Forger included, much to his disgust. On the bright side, that also meant that Fiona was back today too to grace his day with her presence. That was something to look forward too.
"Anya, please slow down!"
An urgent call for help reached Gerald’s ears like tinkling bells. The source of the voice was so gentle and pleasing to the ears, despite it being a distressed call. Just as Gerald turned his attention to the owner of the beautiful voice, he was caught off guard when a pink whirlwind knocked right into him.
"Ah!"
Gerald groaned as he tumbled backwards by the sheer force that had knocked right into him. He had fallen right onto his bottom and it hurt so badly. Who had the audacity to knock the Chief Medical Director-
Oh.
"Oh no, Anya, are you alright? We should get you to a doctor!"
Well, Gerald was certainly knocked off his feet this time.
Forget Fiona. A goddess had graced his day with her presence.
This goddess had black tresses framing her cheekbones, and glimmering red orbs that were now flickering with concern - no, that was not a look that suit a goddess! The sunlight filtering through the hospital windows dawned on her so gently, as though she had just descended from the heavens. She donned upon a nurse uniform that hugged her figure so nicely - a slender waist, curves in all the places that matter… *gulp* Yes, truly in all the places that matter.
When did Berlint Hospital have such a beautiful angel?
"Anya is fine! Don’t worry!" The angel was now crouched next to the pink whirlwind, a little girl no older than six years old who was giving her a bright smile as she rubbed her bottom. Gerald felt his own heart soften at the sight of how the nurse heaved a sigh of relief and gently ran her fingers over the little girl’s hair in soothing motions with a warm smile that looked just like a ray of light. Never mind that this atrocious child had just knocked him right off his feet, just seeing this goddess was enough to wipe all his frustrations and worries away.
"Ah, I’m so sorry that Anya ran right into you, are you alright?"
Gerald felt so small right under her gaze. The angel had “Anya” nestled in one arm, and she was crouching over to reach an arm out towards him to support him now. He found himself still in a daze, but his instincts knew better than to ignore the hand that was outstretched. Goodness, how could anyone’s hand feel so soft? Her palm was just a tad rougher than he knew, but her touch… it was just so gentle that Gerald felt himself being sent into nirvana.
"Sir? Are you alright? Should we get you to a doctor?"
"Ah, no, no!" Gerald shook his head furiously, finally coming to his senses. He cocked his head in Anya’s direction, before smiling sympathetically in return. "You must have your hands full."
The nurse and Anya exchanged looks, and Gerald didn’t miss how the little child was glaring at him. Nevertheless, he chose to dismiss it and focus on how the nurse’s lips curved up into a beautiful arc.
"Of course not, Anya is an amazing child. I couldn’t ask for more."
Anya did an indignant "hmph!".
"I don’t believe that I’ve seen you around before. Are you new?"
“Ah, I’m just a volunteer today. Anya is here to do community service, and I’m tagging along to supervise her.”
Well, it seemed like the community service initiative did help in more ways than one, at least in Gerald’s favour. How blessed his eyes are today!
“This weird doctor is giving Mama weird eyes.”
All attention turned to Anya, who looked very much unimpressed and whose arms were now circled protectively around the neck of the nurse, conveniently shielding Gerald’s view from her curves. Gerald gave an unimpressed grunt in a split second, ticked off by how sharp this child seem to be. Were children not supposed to be foolish characters who lacked social awareness? How did this atrocious child seem to know what he was thinking?
Wait, did she say “Mama”?
“Excuse me, miss, could I have your-“
“Yor! Anya!”
What a dreaded voice. How dare Loid Forger interrupt their conversation?
“Papa!”
Papa?!
Wait, if this beautiful nurse was Anya’s mama, and the damned Loid Forger was her papa, then…?
“Loid!” Yor’s giggle was like music to his ears, and Gerald felt his heart sank when he saw how a tint of red flashed across her cheeks and how happiness was positively radiating off her when she saw her husband.
How distasteful.
It was disgusting to see Loid Forger put his arm around Yor’s shoulder, and lean in to press a kiss against the nurse’s temple, before planting another kiss on the crown of Anya’s head. It was almost strange how Yor was now practically sizzling like a kettle of boiling water, while Anya was snickering for who knows what reason.
“Ah, Director Gorey! Thank you for helping my wife and daughter out. Allow me to introduce them, Yor Forger, and Anya Forger.”
In truth, Loid had not missed from afar how Gerald was ogling at his wife from head to toe. He may have been magnanimous enough to let Gerald’s childish bullying slide, but he certainly would not let him have his way with Yor. His wife was not someone to be treated so disrespectfully, and she was also way out of Gerald Gorey’s league, even if he was the Chief Medical Director.
Loid felt pride welling up within him when he saw how Gerald Gorey’s face melted into one of displeasure and jealousy when he introduced his wife and daughter. It didn’t matter than Anya wasn’t their biological daughter - Gerald Gorey didn’t need to know.
“Anya is Papa and Mama’s daughter!”
Attagirl, Anya. Way to rub salt in his wound.
“Ah, Doctor Forger… it seems that you have a…. very wonderful wife and daughter here,” Gerald was now gritting his teeth as he forced a compliment amidst his jealousy.
“Yes. Yor and Anya are truly wonderful,” Loid took the opportunity to slide his hand down to Yor’s waist and pull her closer, smiling down at her. She let out a surprised yelp as she gazed up at him through her thick eyelashes shyly, while Anya smirked up at him.
Anything he could do to make Gerald take a hint.
“That uniform looks great on you, Yor.”
“Anya got Mama to wear it!”
Attagirl again, Anya.
Yor let slipped an embarrassed squeal, burying her head against Loid’s shoulder as she did so. This only served to reinforce his sense of pride, prompting him to chuckle and plant yet another kiss in the crown of her head.
Die and burn in jealousy, Gerald Gorey!
“Ano… We were heading back soon, Loid. We wanted to ask if you were ready to return home,” Yor said shyly, while Anya nodded eagerly in her arms.
Loid had always thought that Yor looked attractive compared to the average female, but somehow she seemed even more endearing and adorable that day.
He was such a lucky man.
Anya snickered again in her mama’s arms. Heheh.
“Of course. Let me return to my office and prepare.”
“Yay! We’re going home!” Anya cheered as she flailed her arms in the air.
Yor beamed at her husband, and they were just about to turn around and head to his office, before she suddenly stopped in her tracks.
“Ah… I’m sorry about earlier again. We’ll excuse ourselves now.”
Even though she was apologising, she still looked so ethereal. How was that even possible? Gerald felt his annoyance at Loid Forger melt away in an instance at how Yor’s attention was focused on him and only him at that very moment, but the feeling returned again when Loid Forger wrapped an arm around her again to turn her around.
Damn you, Loid Forger!
“I never knew that Doctor Forger had such a beautiful wife!” A nurse who was walking by trilled after they had walked past the Forgers.
“They look like a great family!” Her peer chimed in whilst giggling.
Gerald narrowed his eyes as he watched the Forgers walk further and further away. His fingers curled up into balls of fists so tightly, he could feel his nails leaving crescent-shaped scars in his skin.
No, really, how was Loid Forger getting away with everything?
