Twilight called to her softly, called again to stir her. She could only sigh.
A hand slid from her back, up to her side, trailing to trace the curve of her face. Twilight hesitated. Yor pushed herself against him as if to feel for pressure, for validation that this warmth was his. The grip on his shirt loosened when she was sure that she had made it home. After a deep breath, Twilight stroked her jaw, coaxing her to spare him a look—just one—to know that all was right.
All was not right.
A wife in tatters.

Summary
"You wouldn't like my job. Not just anybody can stomach hours of paperwork a day.”
“Am I just anybody?” Loid murmurs from behind, suddenly revealing himself to be much closer, though her never-ceasing awareness of his body-heat had betrayed that already. The retort’s still in line with whatever other teasing remarks they’d been exchanging, but the lighthearted atmosphere falls quickly. Something more heady and serious permeates the air now.
“I only meant, it's very boring.” Yor says, hand trembling in the air with her knife still gripped in its center, vice tight. “You wouldn’t find it… I mean..”
Unexpectedly, Loid takes her hand in his. He pries the knife from her grip with very little effort at all, mostly due to the strength of her grip failing when met with his own. When he sets it down, he doesn't let her hand go.

Summary
Loid Forger hasn’t worked in the Department of Wardens of the Invisible, Supernatural, and Ethereal for long but he can’t complain. His job has given him access to potions and spells he’d never have found dupes for in his local pharmacy, his partner is a Magical Information Specialist Warlock who is more accurate than any search engine, and he’s fostering a little pink-haired pixie who smiles at him like he’s not just some grumpy human who stumbled upon all of this.
