Work Text:

Reki. Oh, Reki. How Langa loves Reki. The way he smiles, the way his freckles are scattered across his nose and cheeks, the way he laughes when he does a trick right, Langa loves all of it. He loves all of Reki.

The problem is, he doesn’t know how to tell him.

"Today will be the day. I’m going to tell him." Langa thinks to himself as he yawns. He had to wake up early since Reki wanted to hang out. At 9:00 in the morning. He said he had something special planned for the two of them.

Langa then grabs his skateboard and smiles as he looks at the Yeti drawing made by Reki. His heart beats a little faster at the thought of him. He shakes his head to focus himself and runs out of his apartment.

As he skates down the street, heading to the place where he and Reki always meet up, he thinks about how he’s going to confess. He doesn’t know how he should do it. It’s nerve racking. His heart pounds louder in his chest at the thought of actually telling Reki how he feels.

"Langa!" He’s shaken out of his thoughts at the familiar shout of his name. He looks up and sees Reki, waving at him, a big goofy grin on his face.

"I’ll figure it somehow." He finishes his thought.

"Hey, Reki. You seem really happy today." Langa says, not wanting to take his eyes off of Reki’s beautiful face. He forces himself to look somewhere else.

"Dude, of course I am! I get to hang out with my best friend!" Reki says, throwing his arm around Langa’s shoulder and laughing, turning his attention back to his face.

Langa thinks about those words. Best Friend. Is that all Reki thinks about Langa as? Just a friend? The thought makes his heart sink a little bit, but he cleares the thought from his head. He would not lose hope.

"So, where are we going today? You told me you’ve got something special planned." Langa asks.

"Not tellin’ you, it’s a surprise. It’s a place I found a few years ago." Reki says, bouncing on the balls of his feet.

"But why? Come on, just tell me!" Langa pleads, but Reki shakes his head.

Reki then puts a foot on his board and pushes off, gliding ahead.

"I hate surprises…" Langa mumbles, stepping on his own board. Reki waves his hand, signaling for Langa to follow him.

"C’mon! Let’s go!" He calls out, slowing down to let Langa catch up.

Langa follows him, pushing off the ground and letting the wind blow his hair out of his face. He soon catches up with Reki and skates alongside him. Seeing how happy Reki is, he remembers how much he loves this. Nothing could replace the feeling of skating, especially when it’s with Reki.

Langa snaps out of his thoughts when he realizes they’re going a different way, farther away from their town.

"Hey, where are we going?" Langa asks. Reki turns to face him and pulls another grin, his face lighting up.

"Not tellin’ you! Like I said, it’s a surprise! We’re almost there, though, so don’t worry." Reki replies.

"Okay.." Langa says, still not completely convinced.

Reki, even though he’s grown up in Okinawa, has a habit of getting lost whenever he takes Langa somewhere new. Langa, having spent most of his life in Canada, can only hope that Reki doesn’t get them lost again.

"But please don’t get us lost." He says.

"Langa, dude, when have I ever lead you astray?" Reki says, crossing his arms.

"Uhh, a lot of times, actually. Like when you accidentally took a wrong turn and got us lost in the-" Langa starts, but is cut off by Reki.

"Okay, okay. I get it. But seriously, dude, I’ve got this. There’s no way I could forget this place." He says, eyes starting to sparkle.

Langa loves that look, seeing Reki’s eyes light up whenever he gets excited. He’s determined to tell him how he feels.

"Just trust me, please." Reki says and turns back around to focus on the road.

"Fine. I trust you." Langa replies.

They skate in silence for a few minutes, until Langa catches sight of something in the distance.

"And there it is! The comfort meadow!" Reki shouts, pushing off the ground to glide faster towards the meadow.

Langa can’t help but follow him, matching his speed quickly. He stares in awe of how pretty the flowers look in the early morning sunlight. There are flowers of every colour, red, yellow, even blue. But what also catches Langa’s eyes are the white puffy ones. He’s never seen one like it before, and it intrigues him.

Reki kicks up his skateboard and steps off. He starts walking into the meadow and is careful not to step on any of the plants. Langa does the same, following Reki to where he sits down in the field. Reki takes off his backpack and unzipps it, taking out a container with food in it. Langa sits down next to him and accepts the sandwich Reki hands to him.

"Man, this place is beautiful. Where did you find it?" Langa asks, taking a big bite out of his sandwich.

"Well," Reki starts, swallowing a bite of his own lunch, "I was in a bad mood one day, so I started skating off into a random direction. I then found myself here, and it’s been like a little hideout for me whenever I need it."

"That’s really cool! So, why’d you bring me here? It’s your hideout, after all." Langa says.

"I wanted to share it with you so you have a place to come to when you get stressed. It’s like our little safe space, just for the two of us!" Reki replies, putting his hand on Langa’s shoulder. Langa feels his face get warm, so he looks away quickly.

"Wow, that’s uh, that’s really nice of you, man." Langa says, his heart pounding.

"He wanted to give me- no, us a safe space? God, he’s so sweet.." Langa thinks.

"So, d’you like it?" Reki asks, rubbing his neck awkwardly.

"I love it- er, uh, yeah! It’s a really cool place!" Langa stutters. He can feel his face getting redder and redder.

"I’m glad! I love this place, so I was hoping you would too." Reki says. Langa nods in response. They sit in awkward silence for a few moments.

"What kind of flower is that?" Langa asks, pointing at the flower he spotted earlier.

"Oh, that? It’s a dandelion! People say they’re more like weeds than flowers, but I quite like ‘em. You can make a wish with ‘em!" Reki replies, picking one out of the ground.

"Wanna make a wish?" He asks, holding it in front of Langa.

"Sure! How do I do it?" Langa says and stares at it, clearly perplexed.

Reki laughs, his freckles lighting up as he smiled.

"You just blow air out. The puffs will separate and fly away. It’s super cool!" Reki tells him. "Go ahead and make a wish!"

Langa closes his eyes and takes a breath.

"I wish for Reki to like me back." He thinks, and blows out onto the dandelion. Reki sputteres as a flurry of puffs flies directly into his face. He then starts coughing, trying to get the puffs out of his face.

"Reki, oh my God, are you okay?! I’m so sorry, I wasn’t thinking-" Langa says, but stops when he hears Reki’s laugh.

"Dude, haha! That- oh my God- That was hilarious!" Reki says, grinning. Langa can’t help but laugh with him, noticing all the white puffs still stuck in his hair.

"Here, let me help you.." Langa says as he focuses on getting all the puffs out of Reki’s hair.

"There. You’re all good now." He says as he plucks the last puff out of his hair.

"Thanks, dude! Now, what’d you wish for?" Reki asks suddenly, catching Langa off guard.

"For you to like me back." Langa thinks he said in his head, but is utterly mistaken.

"Wait- Oh no, oh no- Reki,  I-" Langa tries to speak but his throat closes up on him. "I messed that up so badly." He buries his face in his hands.

"I already do." Reki mumbles.

"W-What?" Langa stutters, looking back up at Reki, noticing his flushed face. Seeing that look makes Langa want to kiss him so badly.

"Man, I already like you back. I like you so, so much." Reki says, his voice clearer this time.

"Really? You’re not messing with me, because it’s totally okay if you don’t feel the same-" Langa’s cut off by Reki giving him a quick kiss on the cheek. He feels his heart do a flip inside his chest.

"I mean what I said, dude. I like you."

Langa can’t believe what’s going on. Reki had just said he felt the same, and he kissed him. He kissed Langa.

"And all this time I thought you only saw me as a friend." Langa mumbles, covering his mouth with his hand. His heart’s pounding so loudly against his ribs.

"Can I..actually kiss you?" He asks, his voice shaking.

"Of course.." Reki trails off as Langa leans in. He hovers over Reki’s mouth, a shiver going down his spine. He laces his fingers with Reki’s and gently presses their lips together. He slowly closes his eyes as Reki slides his hand into Langa’s hair, pulling him closer to him. Langa sets his hand on Reki’s chin, caressing his cheek with his thumb. Langa can feel himself smiling into the kiss, loving every minute of it. He tilts his face so they can kiss deeper, hearing Reki make a soft sound.

"You like that, huh?" Langa asks, pulling away for a second.

"Mhm." Reki sighs as he pushes their mouths back together, wanting the kiss to last forever. He’s so drunk on the feeling of Langa’s lips against his. He lets his mouth fall open as Langa gently slides his tongue into Reki’s mouth. He tries to catch his breath, but he’s breathing heavily, and It feels like Reki’s skin is burning under Langa’s touch. All he can think about is Reki, and how much he loves him.

"I love you." Langa breathes into the kiss, his breath warm.

"I love you too, dude." Reki says back, smiling.

"And I love everything about you," Langa starts. "Your cheeks," He kisses Reki’s cheek. "Your nose," He kisses the tip of Reki’s nose. "Everything. I love it all." He says, planting even more kisses all around Reki’s face, making him giggle.

"S-Stop it! That tickles!" Reki protests.

"Mmmno. I like hearing your laugh." Langa says, leaning down to kiss Reki’s neck.

"Is this okay?" He asks, hesitating.

"Langa, you can do whatever you want to me." Reki replies, letting his hand slip down to grip the back of Langa’s neck.

Langa presses his lips to Reki’s neck. He kisses it softly, as if he’s scared to hurt him. Reki makes a pleading sound, wanting more, and Langa obliges, continuing to brush kisses all over his neck. Reki loves it. He loves Langa. His heart pounds louder and louder as he feels Langa’s lips on him.

"Langa." Reki says, and Langa stops.

"What is it? Am I doing too much?" Langa asks.

"No, I just wanted to see your face." Reki says, smiling and pressing his lips to Langa’s once more. He then wraps Langa in a tight hug. Langa hugs back, sighing happily.

"You have no idea how long I’ve waited to do that." He says, ruffling Reki’s hair.

"Well, you can kiss me anytime you’d like." Reki says, grinning goofily.

"I’ll take you up on that offer." Langa replies as he kisses Reki again, shutting his eyes.

Reki giggles as he kisses him back, locking his arms around Langa’s neck.

Eventually, they both pull away and wrap each other in another hug.

"Langa, I love you, so I’m asking..Will you be my boyfriend?" Reki asks once he catches his breath.

"Of course! Oh my God, yes!" Langa shouts happily, tackling Reki with another hug. They laugh together, squeezing each other tight.

"I love you too, Reki. I always have." Langa says, pressing a gentle kiss to Reki’s forehead.
