Skype, Leo learns very quickly, is a very useful tool. The decision to go to school in Houston over California with Piper was a hard one, but getting to go to the Universal Technical Institute (UTI for short which never failed to make Leo snicker) was an opportunity he wouldn’t have gotten elsewhere.
Long distance was hard - something he and Piper learned very quickly within those first few weeks since he was taking mostly afternoon classes and Piper was taking morning classes for her social services degree. They barely saw each other and Leo missed her a lot. An embarrassing amount.
To make up for the missed time, they set up Skype dates every two weeks. It was fun, watching movies, listening to Piper complain about how annoying her TA was, and more importantly seeing his girlfriend’s face.
“I’m telling you, Kelli has to be an Empousa or something. She has these like… unnaturally brown eyes. Like fucking coal or some shit.” Leo snorted. “Okay, have you ever considered that you may be a bit paranoid?” He asked and Piper rolled her eyes in response.
“No way. Even Autumn agrees with me!”
“Oh well if Autumn agrees with you then it has to be true.” Leo snickered. Autumn - Piper’s roommate - was a daughter of Veritas, something Piper had learned during her first week sharing a dorm with the other girl after an Echidna had followed the two of them home from classes.
Leo liked Autumn. She was always very honest - one of her mother’s main attributes which led to some very amusing conversations when she joined the Skype calls.
“Shut up.” Piper grumbled as she purposely looked down at her phone and Leo grinned at her. “Hey,” He said and she looked up at him on the camera, “I miss you.”
It was quiet for a minute before she replied. “I miss you too. Sucks that you can’t come to Los Angeles for winter break. Jason was gonna let us stay at his villa in New Rome.”
“And Reyna was going to let him do that?” Leo raised an eyebrow before Piper giggled. “I know right.”
“It’s fine Pipes.” He said after a moment, earning a raised eyebrow from Piper. “I’ll see you for spring break and we can get up to as much trouble and mayhem as we want.” He said with a wiggle in his eyebrows.
Piper burst into laughter, and Leo grinned. “Hell yeah we will.” She said when she finished her laughter fit.
Leo smiled at her. “I gotta go, but I love you.” Piper frowned slightly before replying. “Love you too.”
Leo blew her a kiss before exiting Skype and closing his laptop. Things would get easier, he could feel it.
