Doc: I know this may sound a bit weird, but would you mind coming over to my house? I’m running an experiment.
Xornoth: honestly sure why the hell not
Xornoth knocked on Doc’s door, honestly having no idea what he wanted to show him. All he said was that he was running an “experiment”.
Doc answered, and gestured for Xornoth to enter his house. The house was very clean, but then again, Xornoth was used to the disheveled state of his own house.
Doc led Xornoth into his room, which was filled up mostly with a massive computer.
”Alright. Xornoth, have you ever heard of the multiverse theory?” Doc asked.
”Well, yeah, of course. What are you insinuating?” Xornoth replied, raising an eyebrow.
”I’ve discovered a pocket dimension which allows you to meet other dimensional versions of you. I can send you there using the Supercomputer and Essence, but I can’t go myself or I’d never make it back out. You wanna meet an alternate version of yourself?” Doc sat down in the chair in front of his Supercomputer.
Xornoth shrugged. “Yeah, why not?”
Doc nodded, and pressed a couple buttons on the Supercomputer. Within seconds, Xornoth felt the very fabric of reality be torn out from below him, and he fell into an abyss.
When he woke up, he was in his bed. It looked like he was in his own room, but… something was off. He assumed that he was in the pocket dimension.
Xornoth stepped out of his bed, and started to examine the room he was in. It was dimly lit, without a light switch in sight.
As he continued to examine the room, he heard a *poof* noise, and saw that someone had appeared in his bed. Or, well, the bed. He couldn’t really say it was his.
He snapped his fingers a couple times, but the other person didn’t wake up. “Hey, wake up,” Xornoth said. The other person didn’t wake up. “Wake up. Oh my gods, are you dead? Wake up, you persistent little-”
Xornoth was cut off when the other person groaned, “Scott, I’m trying to sleep…”
Scott? Did he really sound that much like Scott? Like, he knew they were twins and all, but… what? “I’m not Scott?”
”Mumbo, whatever, I’m trying to sleep,” the other person corrected themself.
Mumbo?? Who was- ohh, that scientist kid that Grian hung out with all the time. “I’m not that weird Mumbo kid either. Now, get up.” Xornoth pulled the blankets off the other person.
“Hey, why the fuck are you in my house, man?” the other person asked.
”I’m sorry, your house? Pretty sure this isn’t anyone’s house,” Xornoth replied.
The other person sat up, resting their back against the headboard. They looked kinda preppy, but not in the stuck up i’m better than you way. Their hair was a bit shorter than Xornoth’s, and a different shade of purple, but you know, maybe they were the alternate Xornoth.
“Wait, are your eyes red?” the other person asked, squinting to see Xornoth’s eyes in the dim light. What? Xornoth’s eyes were blue, what in the world were they talking about? Maybe the pocket dimension did something weird to his eyes, he didn’t know.
“Maybe, maybe not. But I’m here for you,” Xornoth responded.
”What are you, my therapist?” the other person laughed. Xornoth looked at them, concerned. “What, is therapy not normal?” they asked. Xornoth shook his head.
”I wouldn’t call it normal, per se, but then again I’m not gonna judge you because honestly I’m in severe need of it myself,” Xornoth responded. “Anyway, all I know about you is that, supposedly, you’re basically me.”
“What makes you think that?” the alternate Xornoth asked. “Also, why do you look like an emo?”
”Because I am an emo. And a paranormal investigator, but that’s not important, at this point I’m practically just bragging,” Xornoth responded.
“So, you're a paranormal investigator and you found a parallel universe and found out that a copy of you was living in it so you decided to check it out and now you're here?” the alternate Xornoth asked.
”Not exactly. You see, a friend of mine found multiple alternate universes, and called me in to meet an alternate version of myself,” Xornoth explained.
”Wait, so there’s more than one parallel universe?” the alternate Xornoth continued to interrogate original Xornoth.
”Yes? Is that not what I just said?” Xornoth replied. “You seem like an absolute idiot. You know what? I don’t even know why I came here. But also, quick question, do you have a brother named Scott?”
”Hm? No, Scott’s my cousin,” the other Xornoth hummed.
“Also, another question, what are your pronouns? I know that alternate universe versions of yourself can sometimes be other genders, and I’d just want to know so I can describe you to my friend,” Xornoth asked.
”Oh, I use they/them pronouns.” The other Xornoth smiled. “What about you?”
Xornoth shrugged. “Any pronouns are fine, but most people default to he/him and masculine terms. Anyway, I’ve gotta go.”
He picked a book off a shelf in the room, and exited through the door.
As Xornoth returned to Doc’s room, he felt slightly weird about his interaction with the other version of himself. How were they so… cheerful? He’d never even be able to imagine being able to look that happy.
”How was it?” Doc asked.
”It was fine. Alternate Xornoth was… annoying, but they weren’t the worst person I’ve met. I’m gonna head home, thanks for the experiment thing.” Xornoth waved goodbye, and left Doc’s house.
Xornoth and Joey
Xornoth: Joey i’m having a midlife crisis i think
Joey: midlife crisis? you’re sixteen, what do you mean midlife crisis?
Xornoth: yeah you’re right midlife wasn’t the right word at all, the middle of my life passed a while ago
Joey: what?? are you okay??
Xornoth: yeah no im fine don’t worry about it we don’t need to think about what i just said. i just met an alternate version of myself and uhhhh
Xornoth: they were weird, let’s just say that
Xornoth: we were so different and yet i’m supposed to believe that they were… me.
Xornoth: this is why you should never meet alternate versions of yourself
