It had been a long day for the Avengers and they all needed a break. From the board meetings with Ross, then the training, and then the missions. Sometimes it was all too much. Especially because their mission went to shit. It wasn't that they didn't defeat that weird sorcerer guy, because they did. It was just that it took way longer than expected and a lot of people were hurt in the process, including Peter. Tony was as angry as worried as you can imagine.
In the end, they decided they deserved a little movie night. So there they were, all huddled together in Stark's cinema room, choosing a movie to watch.
"Would anyone like some hot chocolate?" Pepper said as she got up from her seat.
"Only if you make it Irish." Clint said, earning laughs from the others.
"Sorry, Barton. This is an alcohol free night. There's a certain fifteen year old in the room who isn't allowed to drink and shouldn't be influenced by you people." Tony said, putting an arm around Peter.
"You're boring." Clint replied.
"Oh yeah? So you drink in front of your kids, do you?" He asked the man.
"No, of course not!" Clint instantly said, sounding appalled at the idea.
"Exactly." Tony shrugged.
"I'm sorry, did you just admit that Peter's your kid?" Nat said, joining in on the conversation. Tony immediately went red and Peter did the same. They moved slightly away from each other.
"Wha- No! No, I was just saying that...you know...it - it would be very irresponsible!" Tony stuttered, everyone staring at them with shit eating grins.
"Does anyone want hot chocolate, or not?!" Pepper asked again, still standing up and waiting for a response.
Peter, Sam, Rhodey and Bruce all said yes while the others declined, and Pepper set off to the kitchen.
"So, what are we watching?" Bucky asked.
"Star Wars!" Peter exclaimed. Tony groaned.
"Star Wars is all we watch, Pete. Can't we go one night without?"
"It's just too good, Mr. Stark." Peter said with a shrug.
"Star Wars is ruled out." Steve declared, earning an eye roll from the kid.
"I don't really mind what we watch." Bruce said.
"I've never seen any movies. We only watched theatre on Asgard. My father hired his own actors and they put on performances." Thor smiled. "So you guys can pick."
"Dude, we didn't ask for your life story." Rhodey joked and chuckles were heard.
"Can't we just...shuffle Netflix?" Sam asked.
"You can't shuffle Netflix, Mr. Wilson. It's not like Spotify." Peter replied with a smile. Pepper then walked back into the room with a tray full of mugs of hot chocolate.
"Here's your drinks. Tony, I made you one too because I know you're too stubborn to ask for one yourself." Pepper said, handing her fiancée a mug. He scoffed but sipped from it regardless. The woman sat next to Tony and he reached his arm over her shoulders.
"I'm guessing you guys still haven't chosen a movie." Pepper said.
"I actually suggested tons of movies but they all said no." Peter said, crossing his arms like a child.
"What? You only said Star Wars!" Rhodey exclaimed.
"Uh huh, and do you know how many movies are in the Star Wars franchise?"
"I think Pepper should just choose. She's the best at this." Nat said, turning around on her stomach to look at the woman. Pepper smiled in triumph and thought for a few moments.
"Pirates of the Caribbean?" She suggested. Everyone gasped and smiled.
"I can't believe we didn't think of that!" They all murmured. Tony smiled and kissed Pepper.
"It's an amazing movie, after all. Plus, Johnny Depp is so..." She begun before she caught Tony narrowing his eyes at her. "uh...good at acting!" She said nervously.
"Mhm, that's what I thought." He said. Peter giggled to himself so Tony shot him the same look, instantly silencing the boy.
"FRIDAY, play Pirates of the Caribbean. Also, initiate Movie Night Protocol."
The lights immediately dimmed and the tv turned on, playing Pirates of the Caribbean.
They were about halfway through the movie when Tony felt Peter's head slowly lower itself to his shoulder.
"You getting tired, Pete?" The man whispered to him. Peter immediately jolted awake, whipping his head up right.
"No. Nope. I'm fully awake, Mr. Stark. Now, shh. The movie is still playing." He said, pointing to the screen. Tony chuckled and ruffled the kid's hair. Peter knew if he admitted he was tired, Tony would instantly send him off to bed, and he wanted to stay down there for a little while longer with his team.
"If you say so." Tony said, reaching his hand up and running his fingers through Peter's hair. It always made him tired, and Tony knew that. It was why he was doing it.
Peter sighed in content and put his head back on Tony's shoulder. The man smirked and kept playing with his the kid's hair.
It only took ten minutes for Peter to finally fall asleep, letting out heavy breaths on Tony's exposed neck.
"I'll be right back." He whispered to Pepper. She nodded and kissed the man on the cheek. Tony carefully stood up and lifted Peter up in a bridal carry. He would usually have Peter on his front with his legs wrapped around Tony's waist, but since he was asleep, he wasn't sure that Peter could be in that position without falling.
Tony stepped around the couch and walked out the room, the rest of the Avengers watching them leave with smiles on their faces.
Tony soon got to Peter's room and laid him down in his bed. Peter was wearing a simple white shirt and black sweatpants which were comfortable enough to sleep in, so he didn't have to wake him up to get him changed, much to Tony's pleasure.
He got the boy under the covers and tucked him in. Unfortunately, all of the moving around woke Peter up. He whined and stirred, his eyes till shut.
"Shh, it's okay, Pete. It's just me." He whispered, stroking a hand down Peter's face. The boy finally opened his eyes, squinting them in the light.
"FRIDAY, dim the lights." Tony ordered, and the AI obeyed. Peter whined again.
"No, I d'n't wanna sleep." He slurred lethargically, trying to sit up but Tony pushed him back down.
"Sorry, bud. No more movie for you. It's sleep time." He whispered. Peter whined once again.
"Whine all you want, kid. You're still not going to watch the rest of the movie. Jack Sparrow will just have to wait." He said, pulling his covers closer to his chin.
"You...you cheated. You m'de me sleepy..." Peter accused, and he wasn't wrong.
"I'll make it up to you tomorrow, I promise." He said, running his hands through the boy's hair again. Peter whined once again and faced away from the man, shutting his eyes. Tony sighed and retracted his hand.
"Alright then. I guess I'll just leave." Tony said and got up, slowly making his way out of the room, waiting for Peter's protests.
And sure enough, "Wait!" His tiny, quiet voice said. Tony smiled and turned back around. "Please st'y. 'M s'rry." Peter was almost completely incoherent in his sleepy haze, but Tony was somehow able to understand what he was saying.
"There's the Peter that I like." That I love, was what he actually wanted to say. He made his way back over to the bed and sat down, running his hand through the boy's hair again. Peter sighed in content and shut his eyes.
"Night, Pete." Tony whispered and placed a kiss on Peter's forehead.
"n'night..." Peter whispered, and then fell asleep. Tony smiled at the boy, still running his fingers through the boy's locks, even though he was fully knocked out.
"I love you." He whispered before standing up and walking out the room, shutting the door behind him.
He walked back to the movie room and joined the others again, sitting beside Pepper.
"Did you read the kid a bedtime story?" Sam asked and everyone laughed.
"Shut up, assholes. Watch the damn movie." Tony said, rolling his eyes. It took a while to get everyone to stop laughing, but they eventually did and redirected their attention to the screen.
Once everyone's eyes were off Tony, he smiled to himself. Even if he wouldn't admit it, he really loved his Avenger family, the love of his life Pepper, and his son his mentee. He wouldn't change anything for the world.
