Sheets of rain tapped the ground below them, as both Yuuji and Megumi ran to find cover. Forgetting to check the weather for the day resulted in them being completely soaked, much to Megumi's annoyance.
Rounding a corner, they finally found a spot which was relatively dry - a bus stop.
Not too bad of a spot I guess. Megumi pondered.
They both jogged passed the unlit storefronts and into the small structure. And as always, Yuuji beat Megumi to it, his speed was incomparable to his - and Megumi admired it. He admired everything about Yuuji, his smile; his unbreakable cheerfulness; his bravery; and his strength. However, he hated how nonchalantly he would throw his life away for someone, even if it meant hurting him. And even more so, he would do it without hesitation if it were to save Megumi.
That thought made Megumi shudder.
If Yuuji were to die, his world would cease to exist. His happiness would vanquish, just like when his heart was ripped out by Sukuna. Megumi barely got through losing him once, who knows what would happen to him if it were to happen again.
Yuuji was his sun, his best friend, a person who made him feel happiness for the first time, and a sensation of butterflies wafting in his stomach - a feeling that confused Megumi ever since they met.
As they entered the bus stop, Yuuji sat down on the bench, bending down - hair down and dripping all over the dry pavement - with Megumi following suit right after. The rain pattered the glass above them in a rhythmic beat, the only noise breaking the silence. Blurred flashes of lighting blitzed in the sky as Yuuji finally spoke.
"Darn, we didn't even get to check out the new ramen shop that opened."
"Yeah." Megumi responded, shuddering as the atmosphere becoming bitingly cold as the rain seeped deeper into his clothing.
He did not get how Yuuji could do this, training in the frozen winter, sitting in ice baths for hours at a time, and now sitting damp in a cold bus stop. Was his body immune to cold temperatures? Or was his body just that warm that nothing phased him?
As that thought passed butterflies exploded in his stomach once more. Why was he like this? Why was he thinking about this? This is not how friends think about each other, or is it? He didn't think about Nobara like this, nor any other students, he only thought like this about Yuuji.
And as a breeze blew in through the opening, Megumi shuddered more. And Yuuji noticed.
"Hey Fushiguro, are you alright?"
Megumi looked up and was met with a face of slight concern underlaid with assurance. He shuddered again, water slipping down his face.
"Are you cold?" Yuuji asked in a worried tone.
Megumi, still looking at the boy in front of him, nodded.
And with that, Yuuji stood up and sat next to him, casting a light smile which Megumi was so familiar with already.
Yuuji opened his arms. "I've been told that hugging helps to stabilise a person's temperature, you don't have to if you don't want to though."
Megumi froze.
Has he ever been hugged before? It's not like anyone ever cared enough to.
"Fushiguro?"
He looked into those brown eyes and melted, slowly falling into Yuuji's embrace. His arms grasped the pink haired boy's jacket while burying his face into the crook of his neck. It was true, Yuuji's body radiated heat and it made him feel so warm.
And as the rain pattered more aggressively, Megumi melted further into Yuuji.
"Fushiguro?"
"Mhm."
"Call me Yuuji from now on."
Megumi smiled, heart beating faster.
"Okay, Yuuji. You can call me Megumi."
Yuuji laughed.
"Okay, Megumi." he countered back.
Megumi finally knew why he admired him, why every time Yuuji spoke to him his stomach erupted in butterflies and why now his face was flushing.
It was love, a feeling Megumi thought he could never be worthy of, but was dipped into ever since he met Yuuji.
And as on cue Yuuji broke the drumming of the rain.
"I love you, Megumi."
His heart cartwheeled, thunder creaking far away.
"I love you too, Yuuji."
It was mutual.
