Summary
This will be a multi-chapter movie/book mixture cannon. The book and movie had some differences so I'm picking and choosing some from each. This fic will explore the story from the time Luke is injured into his recovery and ultimately through the development of his and Cassie's relationship. I felt the movie and book glossed over what happened to Luke... he was scared to go to Iraq (Afghanistan it the book) and his worst fears come to pass (the death of his best friend and being injured) but yet we hear nothing about how it happened, how he felt, how he managed to survive. We don't get to see any of the mental trauma that occurs or the PTSD and I felt that was unfair to his character.
There may be some depictions of violence (war), injury, drug abuse, unhealthy coping mechanisms and the like. If you are triggered by these things you have been warned. I hope you find this realistic and that it might fill in some of the gaps in the story line.
