Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Sacramento, California, USA

11:48pm

(Y/n) stood frozen as she gawked at the knife in her hand that was covered in blood, along with her hand, sleeve and shirt. She had tripped over in the darkness of the room she was in and landed in something wet before a light switched on and she stood up. It wasn't long after that, that an ear splitting scream of a woman rang throughout the house while the husband came skidding in upon hearing his wife in distress while the clueless young babysitter found out why the woman was screaming. Right below her were three bodies of three young children, covered in each other's blood, the children she was supposed to be taking care of. The young woman's eyes widened in complete horror when she saw the gruesome scene before her, the whole section of floor was covered in red, along with the side of the sofa and wall. (Y/n)'s (Y/e/c) eyes slowly drifted from the floor up to the wall to find a bloody symbol drawn on it as the husband approached her, shoving her shoulder, trying to gain her attention.

"What did you do!" the man roared as he grabbed (Y/n)'s hair and brought her back to reality. She dropped the knife and whined in pain as she wriggled to get free from his clutches. The wife was in hysterics, as any mother would be when seeing something as gruesome as this done to her children.
"Call the police, honey!" The woman didn't hear him though, she couldn't take her eyes off her children as tears streamed down her face, her makeup ruined, her hands cupped her mouth and nose. "Samantha!" he yelled, finally gaining her attention. She flinched at the tone of his voice as her red eyes moved to him. "Call the police," he repeated as he dragged the bloodied babysitter to a corner of the room and threw her to the floor before bending down, getting in her face.

"Don't even think about moving or I'll kill you myself," he snarled through gritted teeth. (Y/n) felt fear when looking into his eyes, the ferocity and rage in them scared her to death but there was one thing she knew about this whole situation that she was 100% sure about and that was that she did not do it. As the man turned to go find his wife, (Y/n) looked around the room with panic in her eyes. She needed to get out of here, there was no way she was going to prove herself innocent, she was literally caught 'red-handed' in a crime she didn't commit and her fingerprints would be everywhere!

If she went with the police, she didn't like her chances of winning and so her eyes darted to her bag that had her car keys in. She'd have to be quick and very stealthy, she only had one shot. (Y/n) got off the ground into a crouching position and quietly moved forward until she reached the doorway, peering round to the distressed couple. Samantha balling over the receiver while her husband made an attempt to comfort her, tears beginning to appear in his eyes.

(Y/n) felt sick. What the fuck had she gotten herself into? What the fuck had even happened? When she noticed the couple come off the phone her eyes widened and she bolted for the dresser with her bag, gaining their attention quickly. The husband's look of sadness and worry for his wife quickly hardened and he sneered as he saw the figure of his childrens killer. (Y/n) grabbed the bag up and sped for the open door and pressed the button of her car keys that hung on the outside of her back, fortunately for her. She scurried in and shut the door and locked the car just in time for the husband to nearly snatch on to her again who smacked his hand aggressively against the window in a poor attempt at getting in.

The (Y/h/c) (blonde/brunette) pulled away sharply and left the husband in her dust who cried out and stomped his foot in anguish. She let a shaky sigh leave her blood tinted lips before her breathing became erratic and soon she burst into tears as she remembered the children she once cared for. She screamed and smacked the wheel, angered by her situation and still not completely understanding what was happening.

She didn't do it.

She knew she didn't but the police wouldn't believe her, not one bit.

When she saw lights ahead and the wail of sirens, (Y/n) made sure she wasn't speeding and she looked like a regular driver, her eyes watching them anxiously as they sped past her. She continued to watch them through her rear view mirror before she turned down a street. Crap, she needed to be quick! She then remembered her phone and began rummaging around her bag blindly for it but she soon found it, rolled down the window and threw it to concrete where it smashed into tiny pieces. Right, well they won't be able to track her now, next was just belongings and money.

After another 5 minutes, she finally got to her small house, parking haphazardly in the driveway before rushing to the front door. She took her keys out with shaky hands, adrenaline pumping through her. She didn't have long. She slotted the key in the key hole while the (Y/h/c)'s haired woman's eyes darted around her neighbourhood, praying a neighbour wouldn't come out after hearing her tires screech. She twisted the key and opened the door, immediately dropping her bag on the ground and went straight to the bathroom.

Thankfully, it was just her face and hands that were bloody, her clothing could easily be replaced and so she began washing off the evidence. Once that was done, she went to her room and began stuffing a rucksack with essentials; clothes, toiletries, water bottles, and some food. She then stripped herself of her blood soaked clothes, leaving them on the ground and throwing on some dark brown sweatpants and a black shirt with a hoodie, grey cap and trainers. Now she was ready, but she halted in her steps when she heard sirens wail in the distance again.

Shit, they're on their way.

(Y/n) snatched up her keys along with her card before rushing to the door and opening, she hesitated and looked back at her home, making sure she didn't leave anything important. When she was sure she had everything she needed, she was gone. She ran out the door, not bothering to close it as she got to the car.

She swung open the door, nearly breaking it off its hinges and climbed in, throwing her bag on to the passengers seat before shoving the key into the ignition and slamming the door shut. She pulled out of drive and sped down the rest of her road, taking the long way to get back on to Maui Street and turned left to exit away from where the police would be coming from. She held her breath as she saw them come down the road behind her but turned left on to Molokai Road. To her relief they didn't see her car driving away, too busy focused on getting to her house where they presumed she might be. She softened her tight grip on the steering wheel, willing herself to calm down and think of the next step.

A small dinging sound gained her attention, the car dashboard was alerting her of something and when her eyes briefly flickered to it, they rolled in irritation. Of course, she needed gas. There were three that she knew that weren't too far from her so she decided to head to one of them and there would be a good chance that the Gas Station had an ATM so she could get all her money out.

As (Y/n)'s adrenaline began to calm she began to feel a throbbing pain in the back of her head, she carefully reached round to gently touch it and when she did, it screamed at her to stop. There was definitely a swollen lump and wound there. Not only that her hair in that area felt dry, crusty and wet. Bringing her hand back, there was in fact blood, what she had expected to be there. She made a pained expression, this wasn't good... she wouldn't be able to get this checked out anywhere but she supposed it was evidence that she was attacked and couldn’t be the one to have killed those children.

It took 10 minutes until the Gas Station came into view and she pulled into one of the bays and began filling her car up, the place was deserted bar the clerk that was behind the desk in the Station. (Y/n) gently tapped the nozzle to make sure that any excess petrol wouldn't pour onto the concrete before placing it back in its holder and made her way over to the ATM. She slid her card into its slot, and pressed her pin in. She prayed she still had access, even though she didn't need to yet. She still sighed in relief when the option of how much she wanted to take out appeared on the screen but then she realised the maximum amount she could get out was only $500.

She faltered a moment, searching for another plan. She knew that she wouldn't be able to get any more soon and by the time she could, the bank would have shut her bank account down. She felt herself begin to panic. What the fuck else could she do? She stood there aimlessly for a moment, just staring at the pin pad until her eyes drifted to her right hand where a Sapphire ring sat on her finger, her great-grandmothers and a family heirloom. Her great-grandfather had spent his savings on the ring for his lover and it had been in the family for the last three generations. She frowned down at it, contemplating whether she should sell it or at least pawn. $500 was more than enough to get her somewhere but she knew she wasn't planning on going from state to state, she needed to stay in one spot, secluded where she could investigate with no interruptions. She may indeed have to sell the ring as much as it pained her but she was doing it to save herself. She was sure her family would want her to do that if it meant proving herself innocent. It was for a just cause.

Finally, making her decision, she presses the button to withdraw the five hundred and waits patiently as she hears another car pull into one of the bays, her head snapped round, in fear that it might be a police car but sighed in relief when she saw it was just another customer. She took the notes and then her card before snapping it and chucking it in a nearby bin. She then went into the store, hesitantly eyeing the small TV behind the clerk. Nothing yet. Her eyes then moved to the clerk who watched her expectantly waiting for her to pay or just do something.

"Um, Pump...," she glanced outside to the number above her bay. "...2, and could I get these too please," she said, picking up a bag of Doritos and bringing them to the desk. As the clerk rounded up her price, she noticed something on a rack of maps and made a mental note of the place (since also the exit to get there was right next to her) when the bell of the store rang, indicating a customer. She and the clerk looked at the person who entered, who happened to be a man and the one pulled in just a minute or so ago. They both greeted him with a smile. Bit odd for him to be up this late but who was she to judge, she was odd herself. One was genuine while the other was awkward and nervous.

"That'll be $47.57," the Clerk said and (Y/n) gave him a $100 bill from the five she received from the ATM and waited patiently for her $52.43 change. She thanked the man before taking her Doritos when the well known 'Breaking News' rang throughout the small store.

'Breaking News: Police warn that there is a killer on the loose, a 26 year old woman that goes by the name of (Y/n) (Y/l/n). She is said to be armed and extremely dangerous, do NOT attempt to approach her under any circumstances and please keep your windows and doors locked at all times.'

A picture of (Y/n) from a recent party event appeared on screen and she scoffed. She didn't even have a mugshot because she was obviously a good citizen so why did that not ring alarm bells to the police, unless they just figured she had lost her shit or something and secondly, she didn't even have a weapon on her.

Why the shit were they lying?

They could have said that they didn't know?

During her little rant, she didn't realise how quiet it had gotten and looked to the other two occupants of the shop who were staring at her with looks of trepidation.

Oh yeah...

Before either of them could say a word she ran out the door and got into her car, just making out the Clerk getting his phone out, most likely to call the police.

'Shiiiiit...' She fumbled with the keys but eventually got them in the ignition and sped out of the Gas Station getting on to the I-80, and headed straight for San Francisco.

Do you see what I see, Eddie?

The Symbiote hissed to its host as they watched the TV screen with dark eyes. Eddie was slouched across his sofa in the darkness of his apartment. He hasn't been able to get any sleep, mainly due to Venom whining about being hungry and had resorted to watching some of the Goggle box while munching on some Chocolate.

A 'Breaking News' Report had popped up on to the TV. An image of young woman appeared on screen as the presenter told the audience how she was a killer and she had escaped from the police. She was apparently armed and dangerous and every one should keep your doors locked. An update on the banner mentioned that she was last seen at a Gas Station and went down the I-80 which meant she was potentially heading straight to San Francisco, although she could also be heading to San Jose or basically any other county in the area.

Surely, we can eat her?

Venom questioned, not that he needed to but he needed the reassurance that he could finally eat a human brain he had been craving so badly for.

"I'm surprised you're even asking. You know we eat bad guys, especially ones like these,"
