Demon's Ordinary Morning

Summary:

An old work I had laying around that I decided to put here. I actually really liked it and I may upload Faust's journal entries.

Notes:

yes, the writer (me) is named faust

my OC is also called Faust. The other OC, Goliat, belongs to my friend who I've already shown this piece to.

so for a little background:

Faust is an amnesiac demon who stumbled upon a forest that is inhabited by souls and death's son, "Goliat." They chatted and Faust spent quite a lot of time there with Goliat, until one day they got together and have lived with each other since then. Faust is quite a stone-faced character, while Goliat is very expressive and yet they work well as a couple. Faust is a writer, documenting his daily life since the day he ended up on Earth. These journal entries later became small love letters toward Goliat, who always reads every entry no matter what.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

For once, Faust awoke to rays of blue peering through windows, eyes adjusting to his surroundings. Looking to his left, he saw Goliat, his dearly beloved, asleep. He must be tired to not have awoken him today. Carefully, the demon reached to and stroked his hair, pushing it aside, earning him a soft mumble from the other - to which Faust remained stone-faced as usual. He thought of waking Goliat up; and despite being one to cherish sleep, there is not much he can do without the presence of his lover.

Scooting closer to him, he placed a hand on his stomach, shaking him gently in hopes of waking him up but to no avail. Shake after shake after shake - nothing. The demon sighed, climbing Goliat as if he was a mountain and sitting on his stomach, both hands touching his skull.

“Goliat…” the man said, voice low and sophisticated. Still no response, well, if one doesn’t count gentle hums and snores. He would rather not resort to extreme measures, so one more thought crosses his mind. The tip of his finger begins to circle Goliat’s empty eye socket around and around. That seemed to have done the trick, as he saw a deep shade of blue illuminate once empty eye sockets, much to Faust’s delight.

“Mmh? What is it?” Goliat asked, surprised to see the smaller male so ‘daring.’

“Are you okay?”

A strange question, Goliat thought. What prompted such?

“I am okay-”

“You didn’t wake me up this morning,” Faust said bluntly, before looking at the nearest window to see rain begin pouring. He shivered, pulling the blanket over himself for comfort, obscuring his face.

Goliat snickered, taking the other’s hands in his own, “And you didn’t drag me to bed last night. I’m okay, Faust, don’t worry. Since I’m awake, would you like breakfast?” He asked, earning a nod from the smaller demon, who quickly got off him. Compared to Goliat, he may as well be a rat - half the height of the 12ft behemoth. He even struggled to reach select doorknobs in their home - but where else will ever have doors intended for creatures as big as Goliat?! Luckily, their bedroom door was an exception. Before the larger demon could even get out of bed, Faust had disappeared. Rather loud sounds of tearing paper and a clicking pen could be heard, making him chuckle. Always with the journal, even in the mornings.

Much like a father, Goliat had to stretch, yawning as he did so. Making his way to his kitchen, not without ruffling Faust’s hair on the way, his mind rushed to think of just what to make. Oh well, might as well settle on everything. Faust ate a ton anyways.

Meanwhile, Faust stared at his many, many journal entries and small doodles of Goliat, wondering whether or not his dearly beloved could keep up with the several entries he’s added in the past couple days. Thinking about it now, he might as well make a small break page. Despite being stoic, inside he felt loved, and wanted to share love with him too. And so, he got to work. On a blank page, he began to scribble many small Goliat heads, around the center of which he wrote in massive handwriting: “I love you.” As he finished up and proceeded to title the next entry, he was delighted to smell the scents of his lover’s food. Such culinary skill. . . he could hardly imagine himself being able to muster up anything more than fluffy pancakes.

The demon was drawn to the smell, his body guiding him to the dining area to find the table arranged with many dishes. Faust was absolutely entranced by the sheer quantity of meals, and in such a short amount of time! Ah… magic, something he absolutely adores - and is the first assumption to many phenomena he can’t explain with science… or in general.

Goliat had to hold back the smaller demon from ravishing the dishes he prepared by grabbing him and lifting him into the air, chuckling as he watched his beloved squirm in his arms, “Hey, hey… the food isn’t going anywhere, Faust. Sit down, relax. Take a plate and eat up, but don’t choke.”

Faust would eventually calm down before being sat down with an empty plate, free to choose from the spread. All glistening delights from countries around the world. Sighing. . . he didn’t listen. Goliat watched in amused terror as Faust ravaged almost a quarter of the meals prepared, leaving the rest for the other. He ate like an animal, but he wouldn’t eat everything. He’s considerate.

The larger demon couldn’t help but laugh, and seeing as he wasn’t hungry, with a snap of his finger, the dishes were all contained and sealed within lunch boxes for later. He walked from the kitchen to the living room, taking a seat on the couch before patting the cushion next to him, inviting Faust. And of course he would take such an offer, after such an exquisite breakfast. Resting his head on Goliat’s warm lap, he couldn’t help but yawn. He cherished sleep, but to sleep now of all time? There’s so much to do today, and-

“If you want to sleep, you can,” Goliat said with Faust’s journal in hand, catching up with the entries he missed.

“Mm…”

And so, the smaller demon’s pupils faded, leaving a black void for Goliat to stare into. He smiled, stroking his hair slowly as he continued to read. Entry after entry, he was shocked to see how just a few days of not reading could lead to so much being missed! Most were what he expected, cataloging the activities they’ve done together from fishing, magic lessons and farming - but what caught him off guard was the break page. His smile grew wider upon seeing Faust’s many doodles and the large writing stating “I love you.” Little things like that made him just love the small demon so much, muttering,

“I love you too.”

i might upload Faust's journal entries depending how well this work does
