Whiteness slowly filled Wilbur's eyes. The world as he knew it transformed around him. The ocean and boat disappeared. The smell of the salty sea lessened.
The distance sobs of Tommy faded way and was replaced by a silence. Peaceful yet unwelcoming. Like it didn't want him to arrive. To stay behind in the world that didn't want him just as much.
Despite the changing scenery. his heart stayed racing. Guilt -of leaving behind the kid who stuck beside his side, the kid who he considered his own brother- mixed with his blood and ran throughout his vain. It was suffocating, reminding him, he was living and breathing.
But Wilbur made his choice. He refused to turn back.
A cold breeze twisted around him, attacking his face and hands. His heart skipped a beat, yet somehow sped up. His vision returned to their fullest.
The soft snow crunched and tightened beneath his boots. The sun rays crashed down on to the snow. Making it a glistening white, it burned Wilbur's eyes to look at.
An igloo stood in front of him.
A set of train tracks and an orange and white train sat next to him.
A tree filled with lemons in its leaves loomed behind him.
In the distance, there was colorful building.
Wilbur fell to his knees. Digging his hands into the snow, feeling the freezing sand beneath it.
He wasn't in fucking Utah.
