Work Text:
Ryan liked when it rained.
The other counsellers didn't, neither did the campers. Confined to their cabins and only being able to do 'boring' indoor activities made all of them a little grouchy. Not Ryan though.
When Mr Hackett set up the projector in the main cabin and let them all watch a dvd of their choice, Dylan always claimed the spot next to Ryan and the two shared the giant fluffy blanket that sat on top of the two-seater they used. Dylan would whisper commentary on the movie into Ryan's ear, making him have to stifle his laughter on many occasions as the kids in front of them shot the two dirty looks. Ryan held Dylan's hand under the blanket whenever a scary movie was picked. Dylan would never admit it, but horror movies scared him shitless. When the campers had decided to watch Friday the 13th, Dylan had ended up burying his face in Ryan's shoulder and clinging to his arm in abject terror. Ryan found it a little funny seeing how scared Dylan got over a horror movie from the 80s, but whispered comfortingly to him about when to look away from the jumpscares. Dylan didn't let go of his arm the whole night. Arts 'n Crafts was the main practical activity they did during the wet days, Dylan and Ryan always asking Abi to let them be partners for whatever project they'd be doing that day. Dylan messed around most of the time, gluing his fingers together or drawing rude cartoons on the paper they were provided. He stuck paper to Ryan's shirt and laughed as he discovered it hours later. Ryan tried to follow Abi's instructions but Dylan's antics often left the pair with a warped final product. They didn't care though.
The rain pattering against the glass of the boy's cabin windows was another thing Ryan loved.
In the evening, he and Dylan would sit on Ryan's bed which sat under the window together, Ryan often doodling in his sketchbook or reading one of the battered old crime novels that Mr Hackett kept lying around the camp, Dylan usually thinking out loud about something or other, or watching Ryan draw. Nine times out of ten, they also shared Ryan's earbuds and listened to whatever music or podcasts they felt like. Ryan made them a playlist featuring a medley of their tastes. Ryan stole Dylan's hoodies on these rainy evenings too, Dylan pretending to be upset but allowing him to wear them anyways. The two sat in the radio shack on these rainy days too, Dylan insisting Ryan help him compile his 'rainy day' tunes to play over the system for the kids to listen to. Most of the time, they ended up just replaying their joint playlist and talking for hours in the small cabin. Whenever Ryan mentioned a new song or artist he liked, it would always play the next day and be added to the rainy day tunes.
