Work Text:
Roman wanted to scream as he paced around his room. He just kept failing. Nothing he thought of would work in a script, the last text he guided Thomas to send to Nico has been left on read for two hours, and he once again took out his own frustrations on Logan and Virgil. And that was all just todays failings, so many more from days and months and years previous.
He needed a change. He needed to change. He needed...he needed to be someone different. Roman knew it was a crazy thought, but his eyes still darted to under his bed. Even if the idea wasn’t absolutely preposterous, it was still a long shot. Him and Remus have barely agreed on anything since they had split, why would Remus agree with him on this? But well, he wouldn’t know until he tried. Worst case scenario it’s another addition to today’s fails.
Roman walked towards his bed, heart pounding as he lowered himself onto the ground. He shimmied towards the portal Remus kept open to steal his things, he had never once found himself particularly grateful for it beyond it keeping him from shoving things under his bed, but in this moment it did keep him from having to brave the halls of the Mindcsape to propose a certainly controversial plan.
Roman kept nudging himself inward, thinking that maybe Remus had learned to close his portals between thefts, until he completely fell through the floor. He landed onto what he absolutely knew was Remus’ floor because of the stickiness, causing him to quickly scramble up with a small noise of disgust. His head then looked around, not seeing Remus anywhere.
“Oh to who do I owe the pleasure, by which I mean a simply tortuous displeasure, of seeing my darling, by which I mean horrendous, brother?” Remus was stood on the ceiling, arms crossed as Roman’s gaze suddenly snapped up at him in shock, “Did you fall off the bed and roll under it? Again?”
“No! I’m here to talk you little-“ Roman cut himself off, taking a deep breath and reminding himself of why he was here, “I’m here to talk, not bicker,”
“But we’re such a pair of bickering bitches! It’s the only way we can have any sort of interesting conversation,” Remus then summoned a book in one hand, a cup of tea in the others and a chair under him, all still on the ceiling, to sit down and read while Roman talked to prove his point, “But go ahead, attempt to be captivating,”
Roman took another deep breath, doing his best not to be bothered by Remus’ loud slurping and attempts at spitting tea into his hair, “I think we should fuse back into a singular creativity,”
Remus immediately came crashing down from the ceiling, falling full force into the puddle of tea and having to heave the chair off himself as he scrambled up, “You what?!”
“It’ll be better for us, for Thomas. You’ll be heard and...and maybe I’ll have the resources to stop messing up,” Roman tried to quickly explained, hoping to maybe convince Remus before he decided to kick him out,
Remus looked at him like he was crazy, for a moment thinking he was Janus playing a prank on him, “There’s a reason we split up RoRo, the Daddy of Hearts declared it so,”
“I’m sick of what we do having to be what’s best for Patton!” Roman nearly shocked himself with his words, he honestly thought he was well over the circumstances of his own existence, “Let’s...do whats best for us, for Thomas,”
“And you...really think becoming The King is what’s best...?” Remus was obviously distrustful, but the idea of being heard, of being one, was far too enticing to outright decline.
“I do, but there’s only one way to really find out,” Roman held out his hand, hoping Remus would take it for the first time their split existence.
He still expected Remus to do something to his before reaching for his hand. Spit, sneeze, lick, scratching his butt, but he doesn’t. He firmly grabs Roman’s hand and there’s not even an electric buzzer or mystery substance. It’s weird being on the same page with each other, but that’s why they’re doing this. Thomas needs a stable and all-encompassing creativity, not two fragments at odds with each other.
They pulled each other into a hug, and he was one.
