Work Text:
Everyone was in the Wheeler’s basement for a movie night. Well, it was supposed to be a movie night, if they could all settle on a movie .
Robin was sprawled on the couch, one of her legs thrown across Steve’s lap. Eddie, Dustin, Mike, Will, Lucas, Max, and El were going through several tapes, with Nancy looking over the bickering children. Well, except for Eddie, who was just as… passionate about the movie as the younglings.
“I wanna watch The Outsiders!”
“No, didn’t we just watch that? How about The Breakfast Club?”
“How about Footloose?”
“No- Dustin, gimme that!”
Robin couldn’t help but laugh at the group in front of her. She could care less about what they watched- but they better pick a damn movie quick.
She let her eyes wander to Nancy, who was leaning on the bookshelf with her arms crossed, rolling her eyes at something Mike said. Her curls were pinned back by two barrettes, and she was wearing a sweater (that she stole from Robin) with loose pajama shorts. Robin had never seen someone so… effortlessly beautiful .
“You’re staring, y’know…” Robin was broken out of her trance by Steve whispering in her ear. She didn’t mean to stare- she didn’t even realize she had been doing it. But could you blame her?
It was Nancy fucking Wheeler!
“I’m not staring, dingus. I’m just… admiring.” Robin replied with a smirk, to which Steve rolled his eyes.
“Yknow, you could just… talk to her? Instead of making puppy dog eyes all night?” Steve nudged Robin’s shoulder.
“I- No way! I can’t just talk to her! What would I even say? ‘Hey, I have a huge crush on you but you’re straight ha ha! Hope you don’t hate me now!” Robin shout-whispered at him, making sure no one would hear.
“Whatever you say, Buckley. But I’m telling you- Nancy likes boobies too. I’m sure of it!” Steve shout-whispered back. Robin smacked him in the cheek as he laughed next to her.
Nancy heard the two laughing, and looked over at them. She smiled (mostly at Robin) and waved, and Robin almost shortciruited. Robin smiled back, but her attention was drawn back to Steve when he stood up and sauntered off towards Nancy before she even realized. Robin began to panic; based off their last conversation, she didn’t like where this was going. Please please don’t let him say anything about me and my big stupid crush please please.
He said something quietly to Nancy, and she looked in Robin’s direction again. Robin looked down in her lap and started fiddling with one of her rings, her cheeks and ears suddenly burning. What the fuck is he saying to her?
Before Robin could come up with any answers, she looked back up to see Nancy walking towards her, and caught Steve winking at her before going to stand next to Eddie, his arm going to rest on the boy’s shoulder.
“Hey, Robbie. Steve told me to switch spots with him- I think he just wants to be next to Eddie.” Nancy said as she sat next to Robin, their shoulders and legs touching.
Fuckfuckfuckfuck be cool Buckley. This is fine. You’re fine. Be cool!
“Oh thank god, I needed a break from the dingus” She laughed, her eyes meeting Nancy’s.
“Hey Nance and Robin, can you guys go upstairs and make the popcorn? We settled on The Shining” Steve called out to the girls, Robin silently cursing him out for making her turn away from Nancy again .
“Yeah yeah, hold on” Nancy replied, getting up and holding out a hand to help Robin up too. Robin took it, and mentally noted how soft her hands were, and how their hands seemed to fit together perfectly.
Or it was Robin’s wishful thinking.
As they walked towards the stairs, she caught Steve’s eyes. He gave her a “good luck ” sorta look and winked before giving her a (not so) subtle thumbs up. Robin scoffed at him and gave him a “Why would you do this to me I hate you so much right now ” look.
The rest of the Wheeler’s weren’t home, so it was just Nancy and Robin upstairs. This is fine . Robin was walking over to the pantry to grab the popcorn when Nancy grabbed her hand suddenly, causing Robin to quickly whip around. Robin couldn’t make out the look on her face.
“Everything ok, Nance? What’s wrong?” Nancy hadn’t let go of her hand yet, and Robin looked down to see their hands entwined. Robin silently prayed she never let go.
Nancy suddenly snapped out of it and quickly let go of Robin’s hand, a blush spreading over her face. “Oh, yeah, sorry, it’s- it’s nothing. Don’t worry about it, Robbie.”
Robin could tell something was troubling her, so she took a step closer to her, swallowed her anxieties, and grabbed both of Nancy’s hands. It seemed to have startled Nancy, who’s head shot up, making eye contact with the taller girl.
“Nance, talk to me. You seem… flustered? What’s wrong? You know you can tell me anything.” Robin searched in her eyes for any kind of hints, but she didn’t find anything.
“I just… I noticed you’ve been staring at me all night. And I was scared something was wrong.”
Shit shit shit shit shit . Now Robin was the flustered one. How the fuck would she explain why she was staring at her ?
“No! No no, nothing’s wrong Nancy, I just…” Robin started, not knowing how to explain herself.
Fuck it. Think of what Steve said- it's now or never, Buckley.
“You just look really beautiful, Nance. That’s why I couldn’t keep my eyes off of you.”
Nancy seemed to be taken aback, and Robin panicked, dropping Nancy’s hands and taking a step back. “Fuck I’m- That was weird, fuck, I’m so sor-” Robin began sputtering before Nancy stepped towards her and placed a hand on her cheek.
“I think you look really beautiful too, Robin.” Nancy whispered and smiled, her thumb brushing over Robin’s bottom lip. Robin exhaled slightly, her lips parting.
“Nance…” Robin whispered, the sound barely audible. The girls were so close now, noses practically touching. Robin noticed she was slightly taller than Nance, and had to look down a bit to keep eye contact. She could see every shade of blue in the brunette's eyes, and just how pink her cheeks were.
Nancy brought her other hand up to cup Robin’s other cheek, and tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ears. Robin could hear how quickly her heart was beating- she was sure it was only a matter of time before she fucking flatlined. Nancy’s hands were so soft against the taller girl’s skin.
“Nance, am I- please tell me I'm not reading this wrong.”
“No, you’re not reading this wrong, Robbie.”
And with that, Nancy closed the distance between the two girls. One of Robin’s hands went up to the back of the brunette’s neck, the other settling on her hip. They quickly sank into the kiss, desire filling them both.
Nancy’s hands went from Robin’s cheeks to the nape of her neck, letting her hands travel up into Robin’s messy hair. She gave an experimental tug, eliciting a soft groan from Robin. The noise made Nancy dizzy , she would drink up absolutely every noise Robin made for her.
Nancy let her lips wander to Robin’s jaw, then down to her neck, biting softly. Robin was sure she had died and gone to heaven, because this felt too good to be true.
The girls were so absorbed with one another that neither noticed the footsteps coming up the basement stairs, followed by a loud “YES! I FUCKING KNEW IT” from none other than Steve Harrington.
Both girls nearly jumped out of their skin, quickly parting ways, cheeks flushed and pupils dilated. Steve fucking lost his mind, laughing hysterically and running over to give Robin a high five.
“Oh, shut up Dingus!” Robin joined in his laughter, hiding her face behind her hands after returning his high five.
“Its about fucking time- I couldn’t bear your damn pining for much longer. You should’ve heard her, Nance. She talks about you constantly. ”
“Oh you’re one to talk about pining, mr never shuts up about Eddie ” Robin teased back, pushing his shoulder and laughing at how quickly it flustered Steve.
“I guess we kinda forgot about the popcorn, huh Robbie.” Nancy giggled before there was a shout from the basement; “Would you guys hurry up up there! We have a movie to watch!” Dustin’s voice, no doubt.
“Yeah yeah, I’m on it Princess.” Robin flashed her one of her toothy grins and kissed her cheek, causing Nancy’s blush to deepen. When Robin walked towards the pantry, Nancy met Steve’s eye. He winked at her and nodded his head towards Robin before turning around and heading back down towards the basement.
Nancy smiled to herself, and turned to join her girl at the pantry, who was pulling out several packs of popcorn while grinning.
Nancy felt like she won the goddamn jackpot.
