Chapter Text

She used to be a Harbinger of Destruction; one to cleanse the world of all its sins and everything bad; to return it to glory in any way possible.

She arose from the depths of Honkai to do such that; a Herrscher strong enough to take on armies without any help; enough power to rival many Valkyries and Knights at once.

And yet now, she is left a confused mess.

Why?

Simply because she had nothing left to do in that regard.

Honkai is gone. The very thing that gave birth to her is long gone. Torn apart. Defeated.

She has nothing to achieve anymore.

And so, when the Honkai of the world was truly cleansed, Sirin thought that was it. A machine with no purpose does not deserve to remain alive, and so she expected herself to be expelled; to be rid of all Honkai energy and returned to a measly being with which she’d live out the rest of her life.

But no. She wasn’t.

‘What good is a machine that still performs its functions well but has nothing to go for? I don’t get it.’

When that pink annoying Elf-Herrscher Hybrid or something gave them their lives back, Sirin wasn’t interested. She had no reason to give Sirin her powers; though she doesn’t see them as an enemy anymore, she had caused enough trouble already.

Much to her surprise, that man had somehow convinced her to keep her strength.

Is he a fool? Does he not know what she had done to the world? Does he not know that Kiana Kaslana; one of the women he adored so much, was almost a goner because of her? Or perhaps the torment she gave to her good friends such as that Thunder Herrscher?

All he said was that she deserved a better chance. With that, his answer ended.

“Human? I still don’t understand.” Sirin asks, standing at her spot on the top of the tower overlooking the city below them. The city she so very nearly demolished many years ago.

“What do you don’t, Sirin?”

Her eye twitched, making her turn back to face him. That red haired man stood there behind, no worry and fear whatsoever at the divine being right in front of him that could impale him in a moment’s notice.

She didn’t.

“You humans are so inefficient. Why would you bother saving things that have no purpose?” She scoffs a bit, turning away.

“Whatever do you mean?” He asked, walking up beside her.

“For instance, those old cars I see on the roads that look like they can break down at any moment. Why? Why do people still keep them?” She asks, squinting a bit.

“Well, for one, that car may hold many things dear to the person, such that he wishes to keep it. As a memoir, as a display, as a collection.”

“But why? It can’t drive anymore? Its main purpose is nullified, so why must it be kept when it’s useless?”

Sirin’s tone gave her away. Sebastian turned to her, squinting his eyes.

“This is about you, isn’t it?”

Her displeased sigh was the confirmation he needed.

“Tell me, human. On what purpose do you…keep me?” She asked, turning to him. “My purpose is to destroy humanity under the Will of Honkai. To cleanse this planet of everything vile and replace it anew. Yet when Honkai is defeated, my purpose doesn’t stand. I have nothing to do, no purpose, no objective, nothing! Do you intend to make me suffer or something for what I’ve done?!” Her tone raised, yet she showed no direct aggression.

He didn’t budge, because if Sirin wanted him truly dead, that would’ve happened long ago.

“Sirin, if I wanted you to suffer, I wouldn’t let you stand beside me so freely right now.”

Sirin backed off. He had a point there.

“Although a car may be old and run down, people keep it for many things. Its main purpose may be no longer viable, yes, but who’s to say that transportation can remain its main purpose?” He says, looking ahead and leaning slightly on the railings.

“Objects and people may not vanish or change massively, but their purpose can. The car is no longer a method of transport. It is now a memoir, an object from a time long past; something to remember the past with. That’s its new purpose. And in that new purpose, it fulfills its duty to the fullest, making sure people see it remember.”

“People are no different. We all grow up with a goal in mind; an end game objective, something we want to be or do when we grow old. But, not everyone sticks to their initial goals. Things happen, plans change, and one thing leads to another and suddenly we’re nowhere where we expected ourselves to be so long ago.”

“Kiana only wanted to become the best Valkyrie of Schicksal. Now she’s a Herrscher that defends humanity.”

“All Eden wanted to do is to perform on stage with a crowd watching. Now, she defends the world from threats unknown.”

“I never thought I’d be here, at the forefront of Humanity’s fighters, leading others into battle against threats, but here I am; in a place never imagined before by a younger me.”

He turns to her with a smile.

“You may have lost your first purpose in life, Sirin, but it’s not your last. You’re a free woman in this world, Herrscher or not. What you choose to do next, what you choose to go to for your future, it’s all in your hands.”

“And as for why I gave this chance to you, it’s simple really.” He chuckles a bit.

“What you did was not your fault. You deserve to have a second chance in the world; a new story to go through, a new tale to write as your own.”

“And for once, family and friends to call your own.”

She couldn’t look away from his face as he said those words.

“We can figure out your new purpose in life. You deserve another chance, Sirin, and I’ll make sure that it will be worth it.”

His answer left her speechless. It had been too long since she felt this level of genuine compassion and friendliness towards her; so long that it was new and unfamiliar to her.

She paused there, mulling it over. A new purpose; she had never thought about it. A second chance, she didn’t think she could ever get one.

And yet now, here she is, given everything she could never have imagined.

Maybe, just maybe, this time, it won’t be so bad.

“Now come on, dinner’s waiting. Mei’s making Udon, and I’m sure you wouldn’t want to miss it.” Sebastian says with a smile, gesturing her back towards the entrance inside.

Sirin shakes her head a bit, snapping out of her thoughts. Though she may not have a new purpose now, she can figure it out later. With everyone else.

With him.

The man who gave her a life back in the middle of a cruel world.

“Hmph, I’ll be the judge of that.” She says adamantly, walking over towards the doors with him. The man merely chuckled, walking alongside her with a shrug,

Yet one can see the faintest trails of a small smile on her lips.

Besides, a life purpose doesn’t need to be all that complicated right? Maybe, just this once……

Yeah, perhaps just being genuinely happy is enough for her.
