Love is not logical

Summary:

Stephen and Everett have been divorced for almost two years and, if he -the Sorcerer Supreme- recalls correctly, that the last time they saw each other he had been an asshole with the blond. So, it is expected that they don't want to meet ever again (Especially because the blond, as organized as he is, had ordered all the affairs they had together and solved them). However, that isn't true, at least for Stephen, because he really wants to see the other again. However, he doesn't have the corauge to do it, does he?

Chapter 1: Longing

Chapter Text

I built these walls so tall

pretending I am strong

But really I’m just fragile.

(Self-Sabotage, Ruelle)

As the Sorcerer Supreme, Stephen rarely has time to think or just to be himself. He is always doing something to keep the delicate balance of the Universe. Without Wong, he will be lost between everything he was responsible of. Probably, the Older One is having a blast in the other life watching him struggle with their former duties.

Nevertheless, the occasional moments he has to himself he finds himself thinking about Everett. He knows that isn’t healthy since they didn’t end in good terms. It had been Stephen’s fault; he acknowledges it now. But he cannot stop himself. He wonders how the blond is doing and one part of him to visit him.

That last part is the one that scares him the most because there was nothing he could say to apologize enough or to explain his behaviour and recovery. He is afraid of facing his ex-husband as any person would be. What should he do?

Well, a rational and emotional stable person would try to move on, go to therapy and, perhaps when they would be ready, they would talk with his ex-partner as a mature adult and wish him well. But he isn’t that person. Which it worst because she probably would screw whatever he decides to do.

“You know that you could just call him”, Wong says to him breaking his mental breakdown. “It’s not like you don’t have his number”.

“How?! I cannot call him out of nowhere and expect for the best”, He replies horrified. “He probably has rebuilt his life and now he has a handsome german boyfriend”.

“Yeah, he would be tall, blond and a body builder”, Wong says sarcastically, “He probably is younger that you and he isn’t an arrogant dick”. Stephen glares at him. “Come on! Free us of your misery and eternal pining and talk to him”.

“But…” Stephen tries to say but he is out of words.

“Call him, Stephen! Please, for your own good!” Wong exclaims tiredly and gets up of his seat. “Close that damn chapter and move on”, he advices before leaving him alone to fulfil his duties.

He looks at the phone in his desk as if the thing was the most offensive shit in the whole universe. He turns his back at it on an immature gesture. Them, he finds it in front of him being help by The Levitation Cape.

“I’m not gonna call him…” He tells it yet it insists shoving the phone in his face. “Ok. I will do it! Stop it!” He takes it from him. His hands are shaking as he contemplates it. “I can’t!” He declared and he puts it back on the desk.

He is a brilliant man, a medical prodigy and a master of the mystic arts. Yet he still isn’t able to do it. He simply cannot call to Everett, the love of his life as if nothing had happened. The man he still loves and the one he hurt so much betraying their relationship, insulting him and breaking his heart.

Then, he hears it, the familiar tune of a calling connecting and he stares in horror as his cape, the filthy betrayer, has called Everett from him. He immediately grabs the phone and puts his finger over the option to cancel the call but he didn’t do it on time as it connects.

“Hello”. The calm voice of Everett says through the phone, “Who is it?” He asks and Stephen stays quiet. “Hello?”

“Everett…” He says, almost as a murmur, with adoration in his voice.

“Stephen? Is it you?” Everett questioned him but before anything else happens, Stephen ends the call.
