Chapter 1: The Family

Chapter Text

Shuri

The princess of Wakanda smiles at the sight in front of her: Her brother and his not-yet-boyfriend are being awfully cute and domestic, again. Which, in theory, it isn’t bad or scandalous (The majority of the Capital population has been witnessed of their shenanigans and the princess is convinced that their some kind of bet going around relate to the pairing) but, as well, they gain a lot of publics with their behaviour. Not that she is complaining, not at all. She is also recording it to future use.

T’Challa and Everett are too busy bargaining with a market seller to noticed their spectators. Well, in reality, Everett is trying to bargain and T’Challa is trying to help him without being too invasive. The blond isn’t doing a bad job, really, but the price of the beautiful and cozy blanket could be better. Not that the seller is trying to rip off the american, the man is not shameless or idiot enough to abuse of the trust of King’s not official sweetheart in front of the King and Black Panther.

As they finish their transection, Everett’s paid with his money as it is a gift for Bucky, T’Challa puts one of his hands on the lower part of the back of his companion and guides him to one of the food stands. The food that it sells is mid spiced but it’s still delicious and will not offend the sensible mouth of the Mideastern american who is still trying to get used to spices. It is also, in its majority, vegetarian as Everett is giving a try to the vegetarian’s life style after having his medical check up and a talk with M’Baku.

It is sweet that T’Challa remembers it and try to take care of the older man. Shuri also notices that both of them have forgotten that she has come with them or, at least, they don’t mind her disappeared act (Why should they? She is safe in Wakanda and she can get wherever she wants).  On the contrary, they are using their “private time” to enjoy being with the other.

They work together but they don’t frequently have time to enjoy as themselves. T’Challa is always busy as King and Protector of Wakanda and Everett has responsibilities as one of the directives of External Relations Department and advisor of the Council and the King. When they have it, they usually are accompanied by the royal family, M’Baku, a Dora Milaje, Bucky or Nakia. They adore to spent time with the former but it is obvious that they have need, desperately, time for them alone.

So, being a good sister and hoping to get a new bother in law, Shuri decides to let them be. She will send a text to let T’Challa that she is going back to her lab and wish him good luck. Maybe, in her way, she will try to investigate who is administrating the betting pool of T’Challa and Everett’s relationship status and put some money on it. Maybe.

Ramonda

She is the Queen Mother of Wakanda but, before that, she was the Queen and wife of the Black Panther. Earlier, when she was single, she was the daughter of a Clan chief. She has always had to be strong, clever and responsible of her people. The only thing that changes with time is the number of people under her responsibility; for a clan to all Wakanda.

For that, in the past, happiness wasn’t a priority. Not really. Her people and their safety were the purpose of her life. Despite of that, she had been lucky to been able to find it within her marriage, her position and her family. She had loved T’Chaka on her own way, deeply and respectfully. However, she has always wanted more for her children.

That the reason she has always tried to support them as much as her duty and theirs allowed her. She spent time with them and learnt their hobbies and interests. She had been the one to advocated for her son in front of the Council when T’Challa wanted to study overseas or when Shuri decided to dedicate her studies to sciences instead of politics. She has believed in them and their decisions as well as she has known their weakness and strengths.

The same happens when it is about their love life. Diversity in sexual identities and preferences aren’t taboos in Wakanda so, her children doesn’t face a lot of backlashes for being who they are; T’Challa identifies as bisexual and Shuri’s lesbian. Her only worry is that they find happiness with their partners and in their lives.

Shuri, even if it’s not obvious, is a little shy and she usually connects using alternatives media: Her girlfriend lives in Germany and they had been together almost a year.  She is a lovely woman and she makes Shuri happy. The princess has come clear about her royal status and they, as a couple, have struggle and overcome that obstacle.

T’Challa has always been a hopeless romantic. He fells quickly and deep; always putting his significant other first. He has only loved four times in his life and three of that times he had left them go away as they wanted to follow their dreams: A girl he met in Egypt named Ororo, a childhood girl-friend named Nakia, a boy he met in college named Marcus. He let them go because he loved them freely and deeply and he wants her happiness over everything; He let them go but he doesn’t stop loving them. Now, he has fallen in love with Everett and, for once, Ramonda prays that the blond chooses her son.

Not that she resents any of the others her son had loved. She could understand that everyone has different view of life, perspectives and desires. She has never had the chance to meet Ororo or Marcus, she only knew about them of T’Challa voice, but she knows Nakia. She loves her as if she was one of her own family. For that, she wants her to be truly happy.

Nevertheless, when she sees Everett, she can only selfishly hope that the american stays by her son´s side. T’Challa has already given up so many things and opportunities, he deserves to be happy, not just content. His beautiful son…Perhaps she is just being a mother and wants to much for her child.

Yet, maybe, Everett is that…

She watches for a balcony the two of them interact. The blond, after finishing all the work he had scheduled and helping T’Challa with his, has convinced the younger to relax a little. They are having a small and “private” picnic in the Royal Gardens. It is sweet to see her son in so much peace after the mantle of the Black Panther and King fell in his shoulders.

Everett has changed since he moved in the country. Ramonda thinks that he did it for the best as he has grown so much and got better, healthier. He is still hurt for his previous relationship but he seems receptive to T’Challa attention. More important, he is doing his own efforts to show the King his appreciation and care.

Both of them are the type of them that are the caregivers in the relationship and, in a way, that has helped them balanced each other. Both of them gives and receives equally. They seem good for each other…So, Ramonda just hopes.
