Collection of ficlets for EvaNatsu Week 2022

Notes:

This work is mostly spoiler free, but warnings will be in the beginning notes of applicable chapters.

Since I'm on anon and thus won't post to Twitter, I am giving my Written Permission™ to the creators of EvaNatsu Week that you can post this on Twitter instead, if you want. No obligations, obviously, since we're not affiliated.

I had more fun writing these than I expected; I only meant to write for 2 or 3 days originally, but quickly decided I wanted to try my hand at all seven.
It was interesting to write so much about a character I'm not as invested in (Natsuhi), but because I'm not as familiar with her, please forgive me if there's any mischaracterization or misremembered facts.
I hope you can enjoy ♥

Chapter 1: Day 1: Youth/Rings

Notes:

I swear I remembered Natsuhi marrying in at 17, but when I Googled to confirm, I can't actually find anyone saying they were able to find it in the visual novel or manga... So I don't know who's peddling lies out there that I came to believe, but this chapter is written under that assumption.

Which is to say, be wary if you care about the three year age difference, because Natsuhi is underage in this chapter. There's nothing I would personally consider that weird or creepy, though, considering the circumstances. Just Eva pondering things.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

What had her father been thinking?

Eva knew full well that her and her siblings' sanity was the last thing on Kinzo's mind at any given time, but surely there were hundreds of women more suitable to be married in than this irritable girl who did nothing but walk around the hallways moping in that dramatic way teenagers did. Rudolf hadn't hit this period so long ago himself, and that wasn't even mentioning the actual child the family was currently burdened with. Did there really need to be more brattiness in this house?

It wasn't as if Eva herself had escaped that stage of life so long ago, but she had already grown into the superiority complex of someone recently turned legal adult. Thus, the only thing her new sister-in-law's dreary attitude brought to the table was more irritation on an island already so full of it.

And the way Krauss enabled it pissed her off even more. When had that older brother of hers ever been anything but a condescending sexist too desperate for their father's approval to acknowledge her? But now, ohh, let this little princess come here, and suddenly he wants to be all meek and put on the stupidest, most sorry looking face every time he was around his own wife. Where was his damn backbone?

Eva should have been the one to marry her instead. Then things would be different around here. She could snatch that stupid ring off his finger and convince Natsuhi she was her wife faster than it would take Krauss to get over himself and take responsibility as her husband. Then she'd show that ungrateful girl what a privilege, what an honor she had been given, being married into this family. Eva's fist clenched involuntarily as she bit her lip.

How utterly offensive it all was, this immature child pretending she had a single thing to be pitied for. She had been married into the Ushiromiyas. The family Eva had been born into, yet she still had to fight tooth and nail to stay in it. Even at her age, all it would take would be a whim of her father's that he refused to budge on, and that would be it.

She bit back an angry wail. It wasn't fair. The ring of the headship would one day be her brother's. And now he had the ring symbolizing his tie to this girl getting everything handed to her on a silver platter. Why wasn't Eva good enough? Why couldn't she be Head? Why couldn't she be married to her? Those damn rings should have belonged to her! Eva would know better than anyone how to run this place, how to further the family's success. And she would surely know better than Krauss, at the very least, how to make Natsuhi see the glory of the family name.

Eva's heart fluttered in anger at the unjustness of all of it. With no one else around in the parlor to see her, she hit the wall with as much strength as she could muster, not caring if she broke it.

THWACK.

It held sturdy.

But in the next moment, the door swung open. Eva looked over, still a furious look in her eyes, expecting to see a servant she could scare back out of the room immediately.

Instead, there stood Natsuhi, a bewildered look in her eyes.

Eva felt the flutter in her chest again and narrowed her eyes, trying to look even angrier than she would have for the servant. Being caught off guard by the unexpected visitor had admittedly thrown her off a bit, but she certainly wasn't done being mad, especially since it was this girl's fault.

Natsuhi continued to stare in shock before averting her eyes a second later, equal parts uneasy and confused. "E... Excuse me." She backed out of the doorway and closed the room again, leaving Eva alone once more.

...

Yes. If she could finally be rightfully in charge, things would be very different around here.

You ever get so angry you start having gay thoughts.
