Work Text:
Hayakawa Denji likes girls. Like, a lot. Like, too much. Like in an obsessive, subconscious, someone please take care of me I desperately need someone to love me and want me around, kind of way. Any girl would do, really. It’d be nice if she had big boobs, but Reze didn’t, and Denji loved her all the same.
(He’s a funny guy. He’s kinda dumb, so he takes her bloody kiss, and he thinks it proof of love.)
And yet, here he is. With Yoshida. Going to the grocery store, to buy some last minute oil Denji forgot to get last time he was here. They’re in a hurry so that Denji can make dinner for Nayuta.
…and they’re holding hands.
Pochita… I really, really, reallllyyy don’t wanna. He thinks with a blank face as Yoshida leads him on. 'S all for the sake of ladies!! That’s it!!!!
This pretty girl had gone up to Yoshida, with a short skirt and low cut tee that showed off her tits well, and asked him if he wanted to get coffee with her sometime. She was way nicer than girls who normally go up to Yoshida. She didn’t scowl at Denji and even gave him a kind smile, without wanting to make him uncomfortable. She was damn shy too; it seemed like her confident outfit was entirely feigned and new for her. Denji fell for her almost immediately, but the insanity that is Yoshida didn’t give it a second thought to say no. Except, the Yoshida weirdness seemed to strike again, because the guy decided to hold Denji’s hand and say he’s his boyfriend instead of declining. She apologized and left, giving Denji all the time he needed to kick Yoshida straight in the balls—
“Relax, Denji. I just thought that would be better than being rude.”
“Don’t ever pull something like that again, or I will shove my chainsaw straight up your ass so hard it reaches your throat.”
“...you could shove something else—” He started with a smirk and a wink before Denji shot him this look that made him burst out laughing.
“C’mon, I thought you were in a hurry.” He says with a little squeeze of Denji’s hand.
“Shaddup. Let’s just go home.”
Denji doesn’t let go of his hand. He doesn’t know why he doesn’t let go. It’s for practice Pochita!! Imma be the best damn hand holder any girl has ever seen!
He doesn’t want to admit it… but somewhere, Denji really likes the feeling of holding someone’s hand. He still remembers the feeling of Reze’s hand in his. Her hands were neither soft nor calloused, nothing particularly special or groomed. They were just normal. He holds Nayuta’s hand all the time, which is only half the size of his own. He’s never held a boy’s hand before, cause he thought it would be gross like his, but then again— Yoshida’s never been anything like him. He’s popular, tall, and really good with people. And his hand holding skills aren't bad. He’s gentle, and his hands are cool, but Denji still feels warm.
Maybe it’s just his hands that are nasty and chipped. Maybe that’s just what happens when you come from the slums.
“We’re here.” Yoshida says, breaking him out of his daze.
So they are. Denji decides to let go of Yoshida’s hand to open the door (and immediately misses the warmth).
“How come you didn’t brush me off?” Denji stops in the middle of trying to unlock the door.
“The fuck are ya talkin' about?”
“You just held hands with a guy for 15 minutes. I didn’t think you’d last that long. Any thoughts?” Ignoring the obvious euphemism, Denji turns around to look at him.
“Do ya like girls?”
“You didn’t answer my question.”
“And you didn’t answer mine.”
Yoshida tilts his head a bit. “Yeah, I like girls. Some of them.”
“What kind of girls do ya like?”
“Girls who are nice to me. And you? I guess you like girls with big chests?”
“Well, duh. But,” he doesn’t know why he’s telling Yoshida all this, “I like girls who would hold my hand too.”
Yoshida goes quiet for a bit, in sudden realization of something that was probably already blatantly obvious.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. Anyways, would you go home already?? Quit stalking me, ya perv. I gotta kid to take care of, and it's gettin' late.”
Yoshida smiles, and turns and leaves with a quick wave.
“See you later, Denji.”
“...see ya.”
