“Luz, smile.”
Luz smiled out of reflex to her girlfriend’s desire before being blinded by the flash of Amity’s phone. She blinked rapidly a few times before hearing Amity mumbling, “Blessed times. And send.” A second later, Amity’s phone began pinging as she hummed happily to herself.
At least, until Luz flopped onto Amity’s back and slipped her arms around her girlfriend. “What was that? Did you post the two of us?” Luz gasped before giggling a little. “Are we actually a famous couple across the Isles or something?”
Amity rolled her eyes even as her cheeks burned with embarrassment. She normally turned off her notification noises for this exact reason after all since she didn’t want to worry Luz. “I don’t know, or even really care. I just want to share the amazing times I have with the most wonderful girl in the Isles after all.”
Luz squealed and only got higher pitched as Amity pecked her cheek. Her smile continued to expand until it was from ear to ear as she asked, “Oh, I can only imagine how your followers feel about you going from “Humans can bite it” to “Blessed human times.”
Amity groaned at the reminder of her past self as she smacked herself. She tried to push pretty much everything before Grom into the past for a reason after all. That side of her was… Yikes, to put it mildly. She’d much rather focus on what she had now after all. In fact, “I wouldn’t know. I haven’t logged into that account for months now.”
Luz let out a soft, “Ooooh,” before she glanced at Amity’s phone. She then rattled her fingers on Amity’s shoulders before whispering, “I mean… Maybe you have some messages or the like on there? I’m curious now.”
Amity opened her mouth to tell Luz it didn’t matter before pausing. She knew the look in her girlfriend’s eyes after all. They were trying to be full of mischief but there was a fear in there. A worry about something that Luz wasn’t likely about to just tell her, as infuriating as that could be. If she wanted an answer, she’d be better off just going along with her beloved. “Are you sure? I mean, I’d rather just leave all of that behind us.”
The grin on Luz’s face came back a bit as Luz rested her head on Amity’s shoulder. “Yeah, but wouldn’t it also be hilarious to see Boscha screaming and fuming?”
That got a smile out of Amity before she sighed. “Alright, alright. I guess that’d be worth it.” Her fingers then quickly got to work at logging herself out. It was a surprisingly smooth thing for her, almost as if she’d done it dozens, if not hundreds, of times. It put Luz on alert since half the time she had to look up how to do it for the apps on her phone. They didn’t exactly want you leaving after all.
Then Luz saw it. A third option for username that dropped down when Amity went to sign in. “Wait, what’s that!?”
Amity blinked a few times before looking back at her phone. Luz had already tapped the option that had shown up though. ‘Witchchickpriv’. “Oh yeah. I can’t even remember why I made a private account. Probably to post dumb pictures that Boscha would tease at me or my mom would call ‘unprofessional’. You know, stuff that might make me seem like an actual person.”
They both laughed at that before evil entered Luz’s eyes. “Oh? Like pictures of me?”
Amity turned pale at the idea. She actually didn’t know. She couldn’t remember what was on the account. The sorts of pictures of Luz that she might have taken back then though, in private, in secret and definitely while scared, were mortifying to even consider having anyone see, let alone her girlfriend. “Oh, uh, you know, we don’t really need to-”
Luz slammed herself to the floor in front of Amity before prostrating herself for her girlfriend. “Please! Please please please! I’ll give you a dozen kisses if you let us look! I’ll make you breakfast for a week!”
Amity giggled at the deals being offered. They were the sort of ludicrous things that Amity wouldn’t hold her to after all. They already gave each other plenty of kisses (not that more ever hurt…) and Amity usually woke up before Luz. She didn’t need anything more from her girlfriend. “You really don’t need t-”
“I’ll show you all the human dances you want!”
That got Amity’s pupils to become the size of pinheads. She’d seen things like the caramel dancing and some enema opening dance numbers after all from Luz and they were… A lot. She didn’t even remember how one ended because her brain had melted long before then. All the dances she wanted? “Well, um, I mean…” Amity took in a long, slow breath to calm herself before she brushed some of her hair behind one of her ears. “Deal.”
Luz almost leapt up high enough to hit the ceiling as she screamed, “Yay!” She then immediately dove to be behind Amity again before hugging her girlfriend tight. Of course, it was just as much to give her the clearest view of the phone as she could but the fact that she could cuddle Amity was always a plus. The heat it caused on Amity’s face of course made it a struggle to focus on old passwords but she did her best and got it on the third try.
And immediately they were hit by an ad for Penstagram Plus. Amity immediately glared at it before sighing. “Ugh. I hate these. You don’t even get anything for joining it. Not anything useful at least.”
Luz nodded furiously before her eyes lit up. “Wait!” She then slapped her hands over her face as she said, “I don’t want to spoil the last picture! Jump back to the first on the account and then we can start. I want the whole journey!”
Amity shook her head with a content sigh. It was silly and dumb, especially since she doubted she started the account to post about Luz, but it could be a fun trip down memory lane. A reminder of how much better her life was now. Not that she ever needed one. Not with Luz right by her side. Then again, if it got Luz to be more confident about having the best thing to have ever come into her life… “Alright, alright. Don’t hurt yourself though.”
“Oh come on, when would I do that?”
Amity gave her girlfriend a deadpan stare as Luz lowered her hands and revealed that yes, indeed, she had smacked herself way too hard in her excitement. She didn’t say more though as she instead finished scrolling to the bottom of her posts and looked at it.
And immediately was… confused. It was a picture of Boscha spread out over a bed in a loose t-shirt and shorts. Her hair was undone and a complete mess under her. Some drool was sliding out of her mouth and her mouth was wide open. Of course it was though, since Boscha usually snored. None of that confused Amity though. After all, it was the sort of embarrassing photo friends took of each other. It was the caption that was the problem.
Boscha would kill me if she saw this but she’s too cute!
Luz and Amity both just stared at the picture for a long minute before Luz finally broke the silence by saying, “I mean, you weren’t wrong.”
Amity’s face burned at the comment before she looked away. “W-Whatever! I probably had been woken up in the middle of the night by her accidentally smacking me or something and wasn’t thinking straight. It’s not like I still think that.”
Luz’s lips pressed on Amity’s cheek before her arms squeezed her girlfriend tight. “Yeah, I know. I was just trying to be silly.”
Right. Right. Why was she even reacting so much? These were photos the old Amity took. They didn’t mean anything to her. They couldn’t. She was a new person after all. It all made Amity sigh as she rubbed her forehead. “Sorry. I just get fidgety about the old me still I guess.”
“Yeah, but you should remember that the old you,” Luz said with something coming close to a purr, “was the one I first fell in love with so if you ask me, she’s still pretty great.”
That got a relaxed smile from Amity as she swiped down on her phone to look at more photos. Luz was right after all. The old her had still managed to somehow get Luz close enough to her for the new her to emerge so maybe it wasn’t completely crazy. Yeah, she just needed to relax and-
Both girls’ faces became bright red as a picture of Boscha coming out of a pool came up next. Coming out of a pool with her hair coming down over her face and giving her a messy, rough look that went well with the muscles that she was showing off. All of the muscles that Boscha was showing as she wore a hot, little red bikini that neither Amity or Luz would ever dream of wearing. Even the idea of seeing the other in it was way too much for them.
And the caption didn’t make it any better as it said, I swear Boscha is trying to make me faint. Help.
Luz and Amity glanced at each other before Luz said, “I mea-”
“NEXT PICTURE!”
Amity swiped up as quickly as she could as she screamed. The next picture had to be better than that one after all. Something less embarrassing and less mortifying. It wasn’t like they went swimming that often. In fact, she didn’t even get to always spend time with Boscha as mundane pictures of pictures she took of pretty landscapes passed by. No, the next big picture had to be-
Blessed times. If only I could tell her that.
The picture was a selfie of both Boscha and Amity this time. Boscha was fast asleep with an arm under Amity in an obvious attempt to hold her even as they fell asleep. Her hair was still in a bun, as if she hadn’t been prepared to go to sleep when she did or had just forgotten to undo it before getting into bed. The bits of makeup left on her made that all the more obvious.
And the explanation seemed pretty easy to find. Amity’s face was an absolute mess from tears that had made her eyeliner run down her cheeks. Smears of lipstick from where she’d wiped at her face made it even worse and her eyes were still red and puffy from her sobbing. Her hair was undone and with how it was flattened out, it was obvious that Boscha must have been running her hands through it until recently. Until she finally simply fell asleep.
Luz could see Amity’s knuckles turn white as she gripped the phone too tightly. Luz herself was accidentally squeezing her girlfriend tighter from the sight of her being in pain. It did make her wonder when exactly it happened. Both girls were in their Hexide uniforms so it could have easily been from something happening at school. The thought made Luz manage a shallow laugh before asking, “So, did you get a B or something that day?”
Amity looked back at Luz before looking back at the photo. She then began to scroll through more of the photos and had the memories that were crawling back to her confirmed. There were more and more photos of Boscha after all. More and more comments about her being cute or hot or amazing. Of how much she meant to Amity. And then more pictures of the two sleeping together as they spent more time together. As Amity pestered her to hang out more.
Until finally she got to a picture of Boscha in her Grom dress with the caption If not for this stupid Grom Queen stuff, I’d be dancing with her right now. It was the last straw as she sighed and put her phone down. “You’re actually pretty close. It wasn’t getting a bad grade though. It was from being humiliated by the worst kid in class and her… Her stupid, fake abomination.”
Luz turned pale but stayed silent as Amity kept talking. “I messaged a few of my friends and either got told that they were too busy or even teased about what they’d heard had happened. I even remember trying to avoid messaging Boscha because I knew she’d be the worst about it. It was Boscha after all. She’s a bitch to everyone, or that’s what I was thinking. I needed someone, anyone, that night though to tell me things would be okay, that I hadn’t failed, so eventually I messaged her.”
“It might have helped that I told her it was serious but when I did message her, she just said she’d be there soon. She reeked when she did show up, saying she’d skipped part of Grudgby practice to get there faster. Said that she knew me well enough to know that if I said it was serious, it had to be. Besides,” Amity said with the slightest hint of a smile, “she even sympathized that if she’d been shown up by Willow, she’d have destroyed half the school to make it right.”
Luz looked down at Amity’s phone before swiping up one more photo to the last one posted by the account. It was a picture of Luz with her Grom crown with the caption, I chose the right one . It made Luz wince a little before she looked back at Amity. Her girlfriend looked so deflated by all of this and even Luz felt her chest tighten as she thought about what it all implied.
She needed confirmation though. To know exactly what it meant. “So when you were planning to ask me out…”
“It was you or Boscha. I just… I tried you first because I knew you seemed like the less scary option somehow. I wasn’t going to ruin a friendship. I wasn’t likely to get mocked in public if she wasn’t into girls. Not that that gave me the courage to actually do it of course.” The laugh that came out of Amity was as hollow as her breathing, especially as a few tears began to fall onto her lap.
Luz reached towards Amity before Amity shouted, “I swear it doesn’t mean anything though!” She looked up at Luz as tears streamed down her face. “I don’t even know why I’m crying or what I’m thinking or what I was doing! After all, I love you!”
Luz paused before putting her arms around Amity and putting her forehead against Amity’s. She then let her breathing help Amity even hers out before she finally said, “I know. And I’m not afraid. Not at all.”
Luz then glanced at the phone before lifting up. “But… If you taking something serious can make Boscha care, well, you take me seriously, right?”
“Of course I do.” Amity squeezed Luz’s hands and made sure to look her girlfriend square in the eyes. “You are my world after all.”
Luz smiled back before her eyes shined with mischief. There was a surprising lack of fear in them though as she said, “Well, the world’s a pretty big thing to support. Maybe Boscha could help me keep your world perfect?”
Amity blinked a few times before whispering, “What?”
Luz began swiping along the timeline herself as she let out a tense breath. “I’d be lying if I said it didn’t scare me but it looks like Boscha made you so happy back in these pictures and, like I said, you were still you back then. Anything that could make you this happy, that could help you this much…” Luz beamed at Amity as she said, “I can make room in my heart for that. Especially if they still can.”
“Luz…” Amity’s voice was soft and warm as her heart hummed happily at the gesture. It quickly faded though. Even if what Luz was saying was true, even if some part of her was trying to say that she did still hold some level of the feelings she used to for Boscha, there was one big problem. A big, Boscha sized problem.
A problem she risked poking into a storm as she took her phone back and quickly tapped something out on it. She held up a hand to keep Luz quiet as she risked giving it a minute to take effect. For something to come back.
And then the phone dinged and Amity hiccuped as tears came back to her eyes and the phone fell from her fingers. Luz scooped up the phone a second after she got to her girlfriend’s side. She was too curious about what she’d been left in suspense about after all. What could suddenly make Amity gasp for air again?
If it meant being close like this again, would you be willing to treat Luz right?
The picture with it was the one with Amity sobbing in the bed like a mess. The night that obviously shifted how Amity saw Boscha. The night she’d somehow made herself forget.
Someone hadn’t though as a companion picture had been sent back showing, in the early rays of morning, Boscha taking a selfie of kissing Amity’s forehead. The makeup smears were too perfectly aligned to be any other time than that night though. And, of course, with the message, I’ll always hate her for stealing you but if it means getting to see you again, then I’ll do anything. Just like always.
It made it certain what had to happen to Luz and much to the surprise of all three girls, Penstagram would be flooded with pictures of all three trying to make it work. The fact that none of them hid it though, just as they didn’t hide their feelings for each other, made it all too certain that they were on the right track. A right track to a happy ending where if any of them needed to be comforted, there’d be two goddesses there to bless the time they had together.
