After School

Summary:

Stan didn't think this day would end so wonderfully, but he was in for a surprise.

Notes:

So yeah, another Style love confession one-shot. This time though, I have a reason. I only wrote this because a fanfic that's basically like this that I loved was deleted and I never got around to saving a copy before that happened. I was very sad about it and then decided to try to rewrite it from memory so it could live on. Though, if the original author decides to reupload it, I'll put this on lock or get rid of it if they want me to.

That all said, hope you enjoy!

Work Text:

It was four thirty on a Thursday afternoon and Stan was putting his books away, getting ready to head home when he heard someone approach him on his left. He looked up and saw that it was Kenny, one of his three childhood friends. "Oh, hey Kenny. What's up?"

"Soooooo, I just saw that there's an autumn school dance next Friday. And I just know who you'd love to have as your date" Kenny's brows waggled as he said the last sentence. "Huh? What do you mean?" Stan asked, confused. Kenny clapped his hands while exclaiming, "Why, I'm talking about Kyle, of course!"

The mention of Kyle combined with the idea of confessing his feelings to the redhead had Stan blushing profusely and his heart racing. "K-Kyle? Kenny, come on. I'm not asking him." The blonde looked confused, "Huh? Why not? This could be your chance to finally confess to him.”

Stan shook his head, “No way. I’m not gonna confess to him. I just don’t think he’d feel that way and I can’t risk our friendship for that." The other gave him an incredulous look, “Dude, you guys have such a deep bond. There’s no way it’d be ruined with that.”

Stan sighed, “How can I be sure though? And plus, even if he was into guys, he could do so much better than me. Plain old average me…” There were times when Stan would unwittingly describe him unflatteringly whenever he got insecure. And he was definitely insecure about his feelings for Kyle.

"Hey, don't be so down on yourself. You're actually a pretty great guy and I'm sure Kyle feels that way about you too," Kenny reassured. “Honestly, I think he might return your feelings. And maybe then, you can finally live out your fantasy of making out with him.” Kenny's voice became mischievous when saying the last sentence.

The noirhead shrugs in embarrassment with his ears burning, "Sure, whatever you say. Anyways, I should get going. My dad probably wants me to help on the farm. He's been working me a lot lately," he finished bitterly. He straight up hated that farm, though he wasn’t sure he could say the same about his father. It was complicated, to say the least.

“Best of luck there, bud. Speaking of work, I should get going too. Gotta meet up with Butters at the library and work on our group project together. See ya, Stan." Kenny gave a wave bye as he went down the hallway and then was gone, leaving Stan by his lonesome.

After putting his books away in his bag and closing his locker, Stan turned to his right and walked down the hallway. He got past a doorway when out of the corner of his eye, he spotted Kyle who looked like he was pressed up against the wall trying not to be seen.

Oh shit…

Stan managed to hide his shock behind a smile, albeit a strained one. “Oh, hey Kyle-” “Kenny’s right, you know. You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself," Kyle interrupted with a small smile.

Stan cursed to himself. Of course he overheard me and Kenny's conversation. Stan looked up to take a quick glance at the redhead's expression and was surprised at the lack of anger or disgust he was expecting. And then that feeling of confusion continued as Kyle cupped the side of his face, leaned up, and planted a small brief kiss on his lips.

After both boys pulled back and gazed at each other, both being able to see love in one another’s eyes, Stan finally spoke. “Oh… Wow. I… Kyle…” Kyle beamed at the sight of the noirhead's breathless words, he found it cute. "Took your breath away, huh?" Kyle responded flirtatiously.

"...Yeah." Stan's face felt hot at having his behavior pointed out, but he couldn't help it. He had wanted to kiss Kyle for years and now it finally happened. He wrapped his arms around the redhead and held him tight which Kyle reciprocated in equal force.

Stan slowly pulled back to ask, "I do want to know why you were able to overhear me and Kenny." "Well, it's because I forgot my wallet in my locker and only managed to realize it as soon as I got home," Kyle answered as he took his wallet out of his pocket and held it up as a visual confirmation. "Then as I was about to leave, I heard you guys say my name and how could I not want to listen after I'm brought up? I'm glad I did though because I got to hear the guy I've liked for years say that he returns those feelings."

"Kyle, oh wow…" Stan uttered breathlessly in disbelief. He still couldn't believe this was real and not a dream he's had for a long time. He didn't think the day would end so wonderfully, but he was pleasantly surprised.

"Come on Stan, I'll drive you home." Kyle pulled back save for his right hand holding onto Stan's left. The noirhead let him lead him down the hall and out the front door to Kyle's car in the parking lot, relieved that he wouldn't have to take the bus home and instead get a ride from his beloved.

They spent the whole car ride in silence, albeit a content silence, basking in their newly-formed relationship. The car then pulled up in front of the farm which snapped them out of the mood. Stan unbuckled his seatbelt and was about to get ready to leave when Kyle gently grabbed his arm. That got Stan to turn his head.

"Hey, so I also overheard that you had a fantasy of making out with me. How about we make it a reality?" Kyle's voice whispered as he pulled Stan towards him which had their noses brush against each other and their lips just short of touching. Stan could see the faint freckles on Kyle's face up close. God, he's so cute.

Ten minutes later, Stan finally came into the house with a blush on his face, his lips bruised, and looking content, which certainly puzzled his family when they saw him.
