Work Text:
Ainosuke was a light sleeper.
He wasn't always a light sleeper, back when he was a Politician and didn't want to get up at four in the morning. It would take Tadashi immense efforts to get him up in the morning.
But now that he was retired, giving up the politician life to one day be a family man, his body jumped at the tiniest of noise.
Grabbing his phone, he glared as 2:45 AM stared back at him and he turned to wrap his arms around his husband, only to find that Tadashi wasn't there.
Eyebrows furrowing, he sat up and patted around the bed, thinking maybe, just maybe Tadashi had rolled away like he sometimes does in the middle of the night.
But when his fingers reached of the curve of the edge of the bed, Ainosuke realized his husband wasn't in bed. Flopping back on the bed, he let out a dramatic sigh before tossing the blankets off his body and going to find his missing husband.
He first checked the bathroom to make sure he hadn't fallen asleep there, as he had done before. When he didn't find him there, he headed out of the bedroom and tried to think of his usual hiding places.
But before he had time to really think, a faint light was at the bottom of the stairs, which was coming from the direction of the kitchen.
"Puppy?" he called out but received nothing in return.
Sighing again, Ainosuke made his way down the stairs and turned into the kitchen where he found Tadashi staring at two separate boxes of cereal. He then looked up at Ainosuke, his eyes going wide, as if he realized what it was, he was doing.
"What are you doing up so early darling?" Ainosuke approached him so he could ruffle his hair.
"S'hungry," Tadashi mumbled as he leaned into his hand.
"I see, did you not get enough to eat last night?" Ainosuke asked.
"I did, I just woke up with extreme hunger pangs. You know how people have anxiety dreams about old workplaces? I think that's what this is." he whined as he faceplanted into Ainosuke's shoulder.
Biting back a small chuckle, Ainosuke wrapped his arms around Tadashi and rested his head against Tadashi's, "It's only been a couple months. I'm sure our bodies will get used to our new life eventually." he said.
That seemed to ease some of the upset Tadashi was feeling, as he wrapped his own arms around Ainosuke's waist and held him close.
They stood in the kitchen for a few moments before Ainosuke started to grow restless and started to sway them back and forth, humming a random tune. Tadashi turned his head to rest his cheek against his shoulder.
Eventually it was just silence surrounding them as they swayed back and forth. It was about the sixth time they had swayed in a circle that a loud grumble broke the silence.
Tadashi pulled away to stare down at Ainosuke’s stomach before looking up at him with an amused smile, “It seems you’re hungry too,” he teased.
Embarrassed, Ainosuke placed a hand on his stomach and shrugged shyly, “So it seems.”
Grabbing the cereal boxes from the counter, he held them up for Ainosuke to view.
“Count Chocula or Boo Berries?” Tadashi asked.
“Count Chocula, obviously,” Ainosuke took the box and kissed Tadashi before going to pour himself a bowl.
They settled themselves on the couch and ate their cereal. Ainosuke insisted they plan a day out, maybe even lunch at Sia la Luce to surprise their friends.
