Notes:

important update for new people: I will not be posting anymore Harry Potter or marauders fanfic, including more Sirius with Tourettes stuff. JK has just gone so far and done such horrible damage with her money and influence that I cannot engage with that IP anymore, even in a way that doesn’t support her monetarily. I’m going to keep these fics up because I know they mean a lot to people, but I will not be writing any more.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

They stared at the tiny creature Lily brought home.

“I don’t like it.”

Remus rolled his eyes.

“What do you mean you don’t like it?”

“I don’t like cats,” Sirius clarified, “Nasty things, really. They poop in a box, they scratch up the furniture, and they leave hair everywhere.”

“And you’re not just saying this because you are literally a dog?” Remus teased.

Sirius glowered.

“I’m not saying…that that’s not part of it…” Remus broke into a fit of giggles.

“Prongs! Get in here!”

James entered the common area of the flat they shared. He had scratches up and down his arms, and he seemed to have lost his glasses.

“What is it, Remus?”

“Pads hates cats.” Remus said, still obviously amused.

“I mean, I kind of hate that cat,” James admitted.

“What?” Remus asked, “ This cat. The one that's about 3 kilos soaking wet and, may I remind you, was brought into our space by your girlfriend?”

“I mean, yeah,” James replied. He held up his scabby arms. “It clearly hates me, look how scratched up I am.”

“Well, James, you obviously don’t know how to approach a cat,” Remus folded his arms. “Watch.” Remus walked up to where the little black cat was sitting on their sofa. He sat on the floor (so as to get on the cat’s level), and offered the back of his hand for her to sniff. He stayed perfectly still, and after a moment the cat rubbed her head on his fingers. He scratched her cheek and she began to purr.

“Easy,” he said, standing up and wiping the cat hair on his jeans.

“It’s because you’re both dark creatures,” Sirius teased, “That’s the only explanation.”

“Piss off,” Remus replied, elbowing him jokingly. The cat opened its green eyes and hopped off the couch to rub around his legs. “She’s just got good taste.’
