Work Text:
‘What about this one?’ Zoe pulled on a bright red leather jacket.
‘Hmm?’ Walter looked up from what he was doing. ‘It’s a bit flashy, don’t you think?’
‘Well, that’s the point.’
‘The point is to keep a low profile, dear. Put it back.’
Zoe pouted, slipping the jacket off and tossing it back onto the corpse she had taken it from. It was a shame, too; she’d taken extra care not to put a bullet through it. Over in the corner, Walter was busy stuffing wads of money into a duffel bag.
She stepped over the bodies, examining them one by one until something caught her eye. It was the body of the woman who had been working at the checkout. Nudging it with her foot, she pushed the woman’s corpse until it flopped over on its back. Glimmering around her neck was a sapphire-blue necklace shaped like a teardrop. She’d had her eye on it ever since she had scoped the place out last week. Placing her gun aside for a moment, she bent down and plucked it from around the woman’s neck, brushing off any stray droplets of blood with her finger.
‘Zoe!’ Walter called. ‘We don’t have much time!’
Zoe slipped the necklace into her jacket pocket. ‘Coming!’
‘Find something you like?’
‘You could say that.’ She replied. ‘Good haul?’
‘That…’ Walter heaved the two duffel bags onto his shoulders. ‘…is an understatement.’
‘You always choose the best places, sweetie.’ She leaned over to give him a kiss on the cheek.
Walter grinned as his cheeks turned a faint shade of red. ‘Darling, you’re too kind. Now come on, I reckon we have a few minutes at most before the police find out about this.’
