Work Text:

It was raining in Mondstadt.

You were in the tavern today, sitting at the dark corner of the room. You don’t usually go to taverns - only for special occasions. And it is a special occasion but… there wasn’t anything special - could you still even call this dull feeling an occasion?

You only sighed and decided to move away from the dark corner with a cupcake at hand. Then you sat near the bartender area, where you were greeted by a red head. “What will be your order?” He asked. You shrugged. “Dunno.”

You looked around the place and saw a group laughing. “If there was a drink that could make me feel happy like them, then I’d love that.” You smiled sadly. “Well, unfortunately we don’t have that,” he replied, “but I find that it would be fruit based drinks that makes me feel happier.”

“I’ll have grape juice then.” You stated.

The man clicked his tongue as he turned back. “Good choice.”

You nodded to yourself and waited for your drink. Your eyes watched the red haired man move around the area, taking a glass from the cupboard, then taking juice from the barrel with a faucet. Then, he placed the drink in front of you.

“Got into a breakup?” He asked.

“...”

You started laughing. “I think that would be way better!” You snorted. The man only smiled, although he had a hint of concern written all over his face. “No, I didn’t.” You answered his question. “It’s my birthday but it doesn’t feel special…” Your voice trailed off as you drank the grape juice.

“I’ve had a small party with some friends and stuff but… something feels missing.” There you realized you were starting to rant to a total stranger. “Um, are you sure you want to hear me complain like this?” You said.

“I’ve heard drunk men confess their love, an annoying bard sing his heart out, and the list goes on - I don’t really mind hearing another, especially now that I’ve gotten used to it.” He replied.

“Besides, I asked.”

You nodded, “and your name is…?”

“Diluc. Diluc Ragnvindr.” He said. You nodded, letting your hand out for a handshake. Diluc takes your hand. But instead of shaking it, he brushed his lips against your knuckles. You chuckled. “Well-mannered, are we?” You said. He let go.
Diluc shook his head, “I disagree - it’s only right, I believe.”

“Hm,” you hummed, “then, it’s an honor to meet you, Diluc.” You gave Diluc a smile. And as a response, he smiles back (but it wasn’t obvious).

“Likewise.”
