Work Text:
Jensen leafed through the magazine that someone had abandoned on a nearby chair.
He’d switched off his phone, something he rarely did but recently it had been bombarding him with calls, messages, and all the other annoying sounds of the little tech wonder.
So now he was enjoying a moment of complete oblivion, just an anonymous guy in a bustling busy airport.
With his beanie pulled well down over his head and his face buried in the mag, Jensen hoped no one would recognize him.
It wasn't that Jensen didn’t enjoy meeting fans but he was relishing this moment of quiet before having to deal with the noise and commotion of tomorrow’s convention.
More than that though, he was basking in the anticipation of Jared’s arrival. His co-star was due to land in around 15 minutes and though Jensen did get to see him often, their various jobs kept them apart far more than before.
A smile graced his face as he thought back to those crazy years on Supernatural.
Sometimes they were too exhausted to do more than exchange a quick kiss before falling into bed like two felled trees, their energies drained after a 14-hour day.
But now Jensen would love nothing better than to turn back the clock and be on that set again, with Jared’s smiles and laughs brightening his days with his warmth.
Even if the adage of ‘you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone’ didn’t really apply to him, for Jensen had known what they were giving up when they ended the show, but everyone seemed to be adamant that it had run its course.
Had it been a big mistake? Could the show have found freshness with a new showrunner and writers?
With a sigh, Jensen concluded that now they would never know.
Just like their on-screen characters, it had been harder for him to let go than Jared, even if both had cried bitter tears at the sight of the sets being demolished.
But as always, Jared had bounced back like an overgrown puppy. He adjusted better to the new reality throwing himself into the Walker reboot.
It was one of his lover’s traits.
Jared could never sit still for too long, he had to have something to occupy his mind and he’d flung himself into the new project enthusiastically.
Jensen didn’t have that same ability.
He'd found it difficult to detach himself from the character he’d played for all those years, especially since a lot of Dean’s characteristics resounded in him too.
Not least the fact that Dean’s love for his brother Sam mirrored Jensen’s love for Jared, well, all except for the sex, Jensen grinned despite himself, though the writers had filled the show with tantalizing nudges at the all too famous wincest, with lines, actions and warm glances between Sam and Dean which had fuelled it to the extremes.
Most of the time, he and Jared had kept in character, but often their own feelings would slip through, and strangely enough, those were the scenes where the love between Sam and Dean was the most palpable and real.
Jensen had wanted to keep hold of that world, that’s why he’d dreamed up the idea of a prequel.
He’d kept it under wraps even from Jared, afraid to say anything until it had been pitched to the bigwigs at the CW, but now he wondered if he’d made a big mistake.
Sure, the writers had come up with a way to twist things so that the canon of the original show could be more or less respected but the feeling in his gut that he’d chosen unwisely, now caused him many doubts.
Well, if the show crashed, it would serve him right.
He’d gone about it in the wrong way and hurt Jared’s feelings in the process. It was a good thing that Jared was the sweetest, most forgiving guy on the planet. Jensen knew he was so lucky to have his love.
He glanced at his wristwatch.
The announcement of Jared’s plane was resounding over the speakers.
Soon they’d be together once more.
The convention organizers had offered to book rooms in the hotel where the event was taking place but Jensen had informed them that he and Jared would be making their own arrangements, and so he had.
He wanted to be alone with Jared, just the two of them, curled up in bed, their naked bodies entwined together, sweaty and sated after a night of sex. No, Jensen amended, of love.
Leaving his seat, he made his way to the arrival gate, impatient to see his lover.
When Jared’s tall, rangy figure came into view, Jensen felt the sweet warmth of love and desire wash over him at Jared’s sunny simile.
Even with the crowds of people milling around them, when their eyes met, it felt as if there were only he and Jared in the entire world.
As the taller man pulled him into a hug, Jensen had to wonder about soulmates and Heaven. If there truly was a Heaven, then just like Dean and Sam, that’s where he wanted to be for all eternity with this man he loved so passionately.
“Were you bored waiting for me?“ Jared asked, releasing his hold and taking a step back.
“Nope. I was working out how we’d pass the time until tomorrow,” Jensen grinned, his pensive mood gone now that Jared was here.
“I’m impatient to hear what you’ve cooked up,“ Jared grinned back.
“It's a surprise," Jensen replied with a click of his tongue.
“Mmm! Bring it on dude. I love surprises!”
The end
