Summary:

Jensen feels the need to get away from it all and find a peaceful spot to recharge his batteries.

But after much introspection, he gets a welcome surprise.

Chapter Text

Jensen breathed in the fresh country air, its coolness a balm to his troubled soul.

Thinking back on his life, he admitted to himself that at times he’d made bad decisions with regard to his career and his private life, but maybe because he was younger then and filled with passion and ambition for the future, he’d always been certain things would work themselves out, and on the whole, they had.

He’d starred in a beloved TV show for 15 years, becoming a household name, not just with fans of the show, for even those who had never seen an episode of Supernatural had heard of Dean Winchester and the actor who played him.

He was satisfied and proud of what he’d accomplished, so why was he feeling like the worst of jerks?
It wasn't really a question for he knew the answer.

Jensen recognized that he had a negative side to his nature.
For the sake of quiet living, he tended to surrender to the desires of his wife. Usually, it was for trivial demands that didn’t have any consequences other than straining his credit card, but months ago, she’d gotten it into her head that they should set up a family production company and try to pitch a show to the CW.

Jensen had let her dream on, never really believing anything would come of it, but while he was taking roles on other shows, she’d been contacting some of the now unemployed writers who had worked on Supernatural and even talking with a few higher-ups in the CW.

When he’d arrived home from finishing his stint on The Boys, he was greeted with enthusiasm by his wife, something which always set off his internal alarm.

What has she been up to now, he remembered thinking, and when she trotted out her idea for a Supernatural spin-off, he stared at her as if she’d gone crazy.

Sure, Jensen had always been open to some new incarnation of Sam and Dean’s adventures, maybe a good few years down the line, when fans would be eager to see the Winchesters back together on-screen for a tv movie or a limited series, but he felt it was still too early to pitch the idea.

“Jared is occupied with Walker,” he remembered objecting. “He doesn’t have time to get involved in another show and anyway the time isn’t right.”

But that’s when she dropped her bombshell.
“Oh, he won’t be in it. It’s a prequel. The untold backstory of John and Mary and their epic love.”
She must have seen the skepticism in his eyes as a disgruntled expression appeared on her face. “What? You don’t like the idea, Jen?”

He‘d snorted and turned away making a bee-line for the shower, weary after his journey from LA and not in the mood to listen to her bull shit.
“Don’t turn your back on me, Jensen. At least give the idea a look over.”

“I’m gonna take a shower, “ he’d replied. “We can talk about this later.”

He sighed. It had been all downhill since then.
She had thrown herself into the idea with a vengeance, disregarding all of Jensen’s objections and doubts.
Everything that had happened after that was his own damn fault.
He could have put his foot down and vetoed the whole thing, instead, he’d let her take the lead and in so doing he’d almost lost the love of his best friend.

Jensen couldn’t blame Jared for being pissed with him. His wife had cautioned him not to tell Jared about the idea. "It might not get picked up," she’d declared," and it would serve no purpose."

Like an idiot, he’d agreed to keep it to himself until the CW gave them a yes or no answer, and for the sake of quiet living, he’d done just that.
Of course, in the gossip-filled world of show business, secrets don’t stay secrets for long and Jared found out in the worst way possible.
Never had Jensen felt such a jerk but the damage was done.

While Jared superficially made light of it, Jensen was well aware that his friend had been hurt.
In fact, Jared hadn’t texted or called him after their initial heated exchange.
The next time he’d met up with him was at the scheduled SPN convention.

Being consummate actors, they'd followed the script of every con, joking and playing around with each other, but Jensen had never felt so hollow inside. He found it difficult to look Jared in the eye.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
As the peace of the surrounding panorama soothed his angst, his mind flew back to the years shared with Jared in Vancouver. They had been so close. Closer than they should have been, lips and bodies being used to give each other pleasure, united by a passion beyond sanity.

No wonder the Winchesters came over more as lovers than brothers, his and Jared’s underlying attraction proving stronger than their efforts to push it down while filming.

Jensen's cock twitched in his pants. Even now, the pull was as strong as ever. They were both married with kids but that passion had never waned. Unfortunately, the occasions to meet were few and far between now that they were back home.

And since the catastrophic affair with The Winchesters' Pilot, there had been nothing.

Again, Jensen accepted the blame for what had happened, and as if Fate was punishing him for being so compliant with his wife’s wishes instead of straight out rejecting the idea, fans were pissed with what was being presented to them.

In fact, Jensen was almost sure that the series would be canceled, especially with the sale of the CW.

Giving one last glance at the uplifting panorama, Jensen got to his feet, ready to get back to the truck and return home, when his phone trilled.
He yanked it out of his pocket, thinking it was surely his wife but the name on the screen read Jared.
Jensen’s heart jumped a beat.

It wasn’t since the last con that he’d spoken to Jared.
His thumb hovered hesitantly over the accept button, undecided whether he should answer or not. He couldn’t remember having said anything bad the last time they’d spoken but he knew he couldn’t take it if Jared was angry or annoyed.

"Fuck, Jensen! You’re not a child," he berated himself. "Accept the call."

“Hey!“ Jared’s voice was a balm to his soul. How the fuck could he have messed up his relationship with the younger man? Nothing was worth that, certainly not this lame prequel.

“Hey, yourself. Is everything okay?”
“I miss you.”
“What?”
“I miss you, Jensen. So fucking much. Even if you’ve acted like a jerk, I still miss you.”
“Jay… “
“Where are you? I’m coming.“

It wasn’t too long before Jensen saw the tall lean figure of his friend coming up the hilly path toward him.
Jensen could feel his heart beating like a drum. Jared hadn’t voluntarily contacted him for months outside of the Conventions.

He continued to watch wide-eyed as Jared closed in on him and a few seconds later he found himself imprisoned in a tight embrace.
“You’re such a bitch," Jared whispered into his neck, "but I can’t stop loving you.”

Jared proceeded to show him just how much, taking possession of Jensen’s lips and kissing him with such passion that Jensen felt like some swooning fairy-tale princess, being kissed for the very first time.

“You know what your problem is, Jensen?" Jared grinned when he came up for air, " I haven’t been fucking you enough otherwise you’d have stood up to that manipulating wife of yours, but that's a mistake I’m going to fix. I’ve rented a weekend cottage for the two of us and I’m going to fuck you into the ground. Maybe that way you’ll see things clearer.”

“Don’t I get a say in the matter?” Jensen asked, his entire body trembling with arousal mixed to joy at being in Jared's arms once again.

“Fuck, no! “Jared replied, once more plundering the full lips of his lover. “From now on, You do as I say, Jen. Come on. I can’t wait to make that tight ass of yours mine again.”

Suddenly, Jensen's day seemed to light up with the radiance of Jared's love. A love he thought he'd lost, but he was being given a second chance and there was no way he was putting it in danger ever again.
