17 Chatham Street,
Friday.
My dearest Mina, --
I have enclosed a portion of the newspaper clipping that introduced my first London season debuntante ball from yester night.
'THE ILLUSTRATED LONDON TIMES
MONDAY, DECEMBER 28 1896
London's New Debs Bow to Society for Queen Charlotte's Ball
The ball at Mrs. Jonathan Harker's for Miss Lucy Westenra, on the evening of December 27 was a charming dance.
The house was lively and crowded with this year's dashing new bachelors and debutantes. Queen Victoria was pleased by the newest of the batch, Miss Lucy Westenra. She was most popular among the men.'
Oh, my dear! The men I glanced were hypnotising. You would have been in a trance by the scene.
Mr Quincey P. Morris, Sir Arthur Holmwood and Doctor John (or I prefer Jack) Seward were introduced to me through Aunt Emily. I could not choose who was more promising. The idea of marrying either of the three too tempting for such a Lady as I.
Oh, Mina, why can't they let a girl marry three men, or as many as wants her, and save all the trouble?
LUCY.
P.S. -- I also caught a glimpse of a new addition to London's social scene: A nobleman by the name of Count V. Dracula. I was magnitised by his beauty and voice as well. But he was enamoured by a dozen or so other women flocking to meet the new neighbour of Dr Seward. He caught my eye once or twice. The most brilliant shade of chestnut enticing me to come over. Oh, see, my heart flutters at the memory.
L.
